Not so long ago I actually had to defend an ML character who "dated" someone else for a few days after FL left him and watchers were criticising it. As long as the characters are not having hookups or dating multiple people at the same time, I, as a watcher, don't have a problem with that. As you mentioned, people cope with breakups differently
