Started from average went into top notch and fell down beyond average
I first disliked the acting of the FL because of her childish behavior. But kept on watching having trust in the drama. In the second half the drama gradually became interesting. FL became mature and the acting was really good. (I still can't believe people saying she looks average? like bruh, she is really cute than most of the Chinese actresses out there. My only concern was her childishness at first, but everything went back to normal eventually). Until ep 39 it was good. But what the hell was ep 40? I'm not talking about the open ending, I'm used to that in most of the Chinese dramas. But the god of destruction passing from one person to another like a ball?? Skipped it for the most part. Really sad how the last ep turned out. Everything escalated quickly. They could have taken some time to let people digest that. And about the plot, it's nothing special. In the middle of the drama, I thought at least this one might have an interesting plot. But then again the same theory behind Chinese dramas, one dies really unnecessarily (SY's first death was really unnecessary imo), and the dead one comes back as a flower or a chair or even as a mole behind your back. In summary, disappointed with the last episode (not the ending I stress). But enjoyed the middle part. Was this review helpful to you?
A peculiar approach done well
We don't usually see this kind of western + ancient chinese culture mixed dramas. I think it really gave this drama a new light. The love between them was sweet. Had intersting side stories which actually made the drama much worthy.Really liked the pacing of the last episodes. The main problem was solved in the 29th episode and 30th episode was solely dedicated to conclude each and every characters story (This one is much appreciated ?).
Should applaud the makeup artists and stylists. Kui Mulang's appearance was indeed awesome. Specially the hands, very much realistic. Also that little cat maid's ears are so pretty. Outfits of everyone was unique as well.
In conclusion I find this drama as an escape from repeating tropes and stories. This deserves it!

Age gap romance done sexy & right!
I started this drama to take a break from complicated ones. After a few eps I was like damn this one's really interesting. At first, the girl pursuing XH from the first time she saw him was a question for many. I grasped it like, as someone who was practically caged and controller all the time, she had to hide her desires and stuff. But when she met XH she liked how XH washed her hair, touched her ear(which was sensitive for her) and she got tempted by it (her dream the following day). I think that's the reason she goes after XH and she knows she may have limited time so she pursues what she likes. Also Considering the age gap I really appreciate how XH handled it. Being a man he resisted all the time. But damn when he's not resisting that's too hot ?. The only concern I had was why she started ignoring him when from day 1 she knew she may not make it. That's not practical or ethical to make him fall for you and then abandon him in the name of not hurting him by letting him see your true self. But other than it was a wholesome drama. Really like the side story of her mother, even though she's a mother she's still a woman who went through a lot. Also, I guess this one's a HE considering the numerous hints they gave at the last second. Also, the village setting and showing their culture made this drama significant from the rest of the modern C-dramas. I'm not a re-watcher but would definitely re-watch this! ?Was this review helpful to you?
Wholesome!
I started this drama for my love for the Yankees and Yakuzas but with low expectations. Surprisingly it was a bundle of everything comedy, feels, story, friendships, family and so much more. I only had 2 concerns, even though Mamiya Shotaro is an excellent actor, he looks old to act as a high schooler. But I got used to it when watching. Second, the fighting scenes are good, but I think some of the crucial fights lacked some impact and action considering this was aired in 2022. Other than that, the comedy here is on a great level you wouldn't be disappointed. Relationships between character were portrayed nicely and every character did their part very well. I especially liked the humor and acting of Daimaru. There were so many detours and backstories to the side characters which added value and got me hooked to the drama. In conclusion, I'm really pleased with the show and glad I didn't miss this one out. ?Was this review helpful to you?

The feeling this drama gives is out of the world!
Comedy, action, and storyline are all balanced with great acting. I don't normally wish for dramas to be longer but this one is an exception. All about this drama was great for me except for one thing I'm not clear about which I'll come to later. So, first of all, I'll describe why I like this drama.1. At first glance, anyone can see this is not your typical Chinese drama. I really liked the feeling this drama gave me, it's neither ancient nor modern. We don't get many dramas which gives this feeling so that's a plus.
2. Feng BaoBao all the way!! Her acting is superb. How she nonchalantly displays the facial expressions needed for her character is wonderful.
3. Calm and sweet Neo Hou. For me, it felt like he's the most talented out there except for Zhang Chu Lan's grand master. Sadly we didn't get to see how far his abilities go.
5. The funny elders and the rest of the characters like Zhu Ge Qing, Feng Sha Yan.
What I was confused about was, in the last episode when Zhang Chu Lan and Lv Liang were dealing with Duan Mu Ying, how did all the others come into this 'hard-to-find-another-dimension' Valley of 24 terms instantly? Could be possible with the grand master and the elders, but how come the youngsters too came into it instantly?? Maybe I missed anything idk. Also although the barrier was made from the power of 8 superpowers, there were like 5 or 6 people using those powers out there plus the grand master who was portrayed as ultra super powerful in the ep where Sinister Pleasure attacks the temple. So it was kind of impractical imo considering how hard it was to break that freaking barrier. Other than that I'm really happy with drama.
Really hope they'll stick to the decision of continuing to the second season with the same cast.

You'll die laughing!
This is my third time rewatching this and I'm definitely not a rewatcher. This has become like my comfort drama to escape from all the stress and get into a good mood. If you like comedy, I mean high-standard comedy, you shouldn't miss this. This is not your typical girl dressing up as a boy and entering a boys' school trope. Great acting from the cast. Specially Nakatsu, Nanba, and Oscar. Disclaimer this is meant to be funny, not a show to reason with. So if you are in for a good laugh definitely watch this. Was this review helpful to you?

Have seen unrealistic, stupid FLs, but this beyond everything!
I had high hopes for this drama since Kikuchi Fuma did a very good job in acting from day one. Especially in the first episode, we were only shown that Takumi doesn't like Yae. But in the second episode, that's a whole different story. The immediate changes in facial expressions (when Yae wasn't looking, he was cheering and such) were so cool to me. At first, I thought of him as a cold, arrogant male lead character. Fooling me was what got me hooked on this drama despite the FL's stupidity. I thought, 'Yeah, character development must be awaiting.'But what the heck was episode 10? When it's clear that Takumi doesn't have feelings for others, much less a stalker ex who came back after, what, seven years? It's fine if Yae doesn't have feelings for Takumi, but pushing an ex whom he didn't even date for a month towards him? The girl did him dirty, and she absolutely has no right. And it was so unrealistic when an ex asked a wife to divorce her husband. Man, what the hell?
Also at this scene, I strongly believed this must be the turning point for Yae. Maybe from this point, she would start thinking for herself because where the hell do we have any other time to develop her character when we're already in episode 10? I was hoping she would have a proper talk about this before things escalated (maybe after episode 10 she may have, but no, I won't watch; I'm fed up). The logical thing to do was to ask Takumi if he has any feelings for her and confront the ex to make things clear, so she won't barge into Takumi's life again.
Finally, I know this is a drama. I've watched dramas with unrealistic, stupid FLs, in which they had at least some common sense, but this level of unrealisticness can't be tolerated. Writers should think twice about whether the audience would buy it when they make a character extra vulnerable and out of this world.
