After 3/4 of the drama, when you start to think “ok, now he HAS to come to his senses and see reason”, it gets worse. Like, after he grabs her, strangles her and whatnot, he accuses her again with no proof (and after he already knows the sister is the bad guy) and takes her blood until she faints to save her sister (everyone knows this trope, but typically it's used at the beginning of a drama and not towards the end.... for good reason 😑)

Anyway, the only good thing about this drama is the ending, because FL finally leaves him after this stunt (thank God) and he's left alone in his depression (and will probably kill himself, but it's only hinted at)

So once again, for the sake of the two actors, just skip this mess please. Save yourself some time and watch a better story with them as leads 🥲.

Wow. Ok, everyone who is here because they love the male lead (like me), please don't bother with this drama and better skip it.

The plot is just bad. 3/4 of the drama was a repeat of the same tropes (with FL being blamed for everything for no reason, being kidnapped 5000 times, and just being treated badly by every person in this drama). I stayed anyway, but for a while it was kind of amusing and compelling AND because I thought it would be one of those dramas where the male lead comes to in the end, but nope.

Anyway, my recommendation would be to skip this one.

1. From what I understand, he helped Sana (the evil sister) trick the brother so that they (father and evil sister) could capture him, which led to his death.
2. It's the typical “I love my second wife and my second child more than my first wife's children” storyline. It happens a lot in Chinese dramas.. (he knows they are his children but he just doesn’t care for them anymore, because the first wife died and he moved on)
3. To your comment below: another typical drama trope. But honestly, overall I didn’t like this drama at all… the ending was the only satisfying thing about the whole story.. ML was so dumb. Which is he pity because I love the actor and he deserves better plots than this one 😤

I don't think you'll regret dropping it. I had other reasons why it didn't hold my interest, but by and large I felt the same way around episode 8 and I'm on episode 20 now because I've read that it gets better later. But so far I don't feel like it's gotten any better. I liked “Hidden Love” but this drama just isn't captivating me. People here just seem to have a problem accepting other opinions 🤷‍♂️

By the way, the “talking about a person where they can irl be heard” has become a running gag for me. I often watch historical Chinese dramas where the characters are ALWAYS standing in front of PAPER doors.... and are not overheard while talking about important secrets. I find that hilarious.

And for me, it's definitely “not looking at the road while driving”. I mean, we're mostly talking about series set in big cities, which means a lot of traffic, and it literally makes me nervous when I see them looking at the person next to them (instead of the road) for what feels like HOURS 🤦‍♂️
(but that often includes another flaw: when you see car scenes or even car chases/races, there are NEVER other cars around. In big cities, yeah right, quite normal 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️)

As I said, this text was not meant to be hateful towards BJT, but merely to express my regret for something that will never be seen, and at the same time my admiration for Victor Ma.

After First Frost I’d recommend you to watch “You are my hero”, loved him there as well, he truly is an awesome actor 🫶

I feel like First Frost, based on the age of the characters (just because it starts in the youth of the “big brother”) but the timelines start to overlap later on

I know there is a lot of hype about this drama, but please allow me to add some personal regrets as well.

I haven't read the web novel, I only know Hidden Love and I really liked the actor of the brother (Victor Ma) in Hidden Love. Because of that and First Frost's script, I can't help but keep picturing him in that role. I think I would have loved the drama with him even more because somehow I can't help but get annoyed in scenes where Bai Jing Ting is called ugly or not beautiful or whatever. It just doesn't fit in my opinion. I mean, obviously he's a handsome guy (and a great actor of course). On the other hand, Victor Ma definitely has a rougher and tougher look in comparison, which I think would have fit the role perfectly (and also fit the comments about looks a little better). But I realize he probably would have been too old for the role.

I’m still watching the drama, and this text isn't meant to be hateful or anything, it's just meant to express some regret and melancholy in memory of Hidden Love, because like I said, Victor Ma really grew on me, and in the past I've often envisioned a sequel with him as the lead...

Bonus plus point: I totally grew fond of Wei Jiu, would have loved to see a bit more of him (and a bit less of Su Yu...😜)
