It can be the safest place in the world now for all I know, but I do know that 18 years ago it wasn't. The line wasn't dissing Iraq or Iraqis, it was a line just to show his experience in that situation. Sure, they could have used Iraq/Gaza or Russia/Ukraine or even DRC/Rwanda instead, but I don't think it was aimed at making Iraq look bad, just using historical data to give him experience

After this, WTPR and KTL dramas about other countries, I can pretty confidently say seeing negative shit about your country doesn't affect Americans like it does most other places since our media portrays us just as bad if not worse most of the time anyways and we're used to it lol

You should watch the full context of that quote. Yes, he said it's a new-age word, but the entire context of it was about how the word is abused by politicians, often for emotional manipulation. Watching 5-10 second clips of anybody and thinking the obviously cropped for effect wording was the actual point they were trying to make is never a good idea.

Also, he said immediately following that that he prefers sympathy. That's valid and honestly more correct. For example, a US citizen can't empathize with an illegal because they've never been in that situation. They can feel sorry for them though, which would be sympathy and not empathy

There's school/workplace bullying and suicide, a lot of times both, in a huge amount of KDramas that come out. Also, other than China, homosexuality is probably represented the least in Korean TV than basically any other main stream, globally followed countries media lol. If anything, homosexuality is underrepresented in Korean dramas.

That was also 2007. That was during the height of the war in Iraq. I don't know personally, but am willing to believe it's a relatively safe country now, but either way 2025 Iraq IS NOT 2007 Iraq. The timeline actually matters lol

It was definitely a FL centric drama. Everything revolved around her honestly. The 2nd couple were cute, but barely had any screen time and I was actually mad that they didn't show anything about the divorce case 2ML brought in for them to work together. They opened the door for them to actually have a major story line for an episode, then it was completely resolved behind the scenes. Even the other first years were basically invisible until ep 9 or 10. Then they gave the (other) female first year the twin sister story line, which is the only thing they really had other than the fact one went to school with the FL. Even the twin story line imo was more for making the mains babysit, again FL centered since she's the one that was asked, and for the FL to remind the audience that she had a twin too since they completely dropped that storyline for like 6 episodes.

Literally everything in the show has the FL being the main part of it. Like 80% of the cases they worked on were brought in by her even.

The twin sister was a big deal in ep 1, either completely forgotten or barely an afterthought in eps 2-10 and then a poor finish in 12. They should have had the FL have a different type of trauma related to her mom imo if they were planning on spending that little time on it.

I agree with you though about the BS apology scenes in shows. It's not just Korean shows though, I've seen it in Thai and Chinese shows as well. It's so aggravating how a parent or grandparent can be the absolute worst human for the entire show, have a realization moment in the final episode, give a half ass apology and then magically all is good. So many of the parents in shows need a lot more than just a BS apology for the mains to be okay with the YEARS of abuse/neglect/anger/resentment towards them, but it never happens. Just once I would like to see the parent ACTUALLY apologize and it be rejected. Even if the main is open to letting them try from then on and the show being open ended on that aspect. Like the final episode shows the parent working for forgiveness and it seems they will be forgiven at a later date than the show actually shows.

Yes. It's not like a normal love triangle though, the triangle is the entire premise of the show.

It's very well done though. I hate love triangles normally but am anticipating every single episode of this show, even watching them as soon as they premiere on YT

It's really annoying how a lot of Asian shows have an absolutely horrible parent or grandparent, then final episode they realize they are horrible, give a half ass "apology" and everyone acts like alls right in the world after that. Like, no, you can be sorry for your behavior but it's going to take some time for me to forgive you, if I ever even do
