1. it's normal to be accustomed to a dimmer setting, but cdramas are known and well-received for visual fx, which is why they tend to have extravagant settings and spfx 2. agreed, sadly a lot of cdramas hafta cut out parts from novel for budget and chinese episode limit reasons and will always choose the backstory (maybe like novel they'll have an explanation later on) 3. she attempts to avoid suspicion, although it's not like anyone would guess she's an immortal from the future, it's better to integrate into her new life if no one perceives her differently, it's quite hard to maintain her cover if she decides to estrange her family (their support practically saves her from dealing w the consequences of all her past misdeeds) 4. when she becomes sang yuan (third role), she has simpler decor, understandable preference but all noble families wear many accessories as a display of wealth, immortals depicted in novels do the same but for aesthetic purposes 5. i assume it's bc he's supposed to be the weak and pitiful character corrupted with strength? paleness is usually tied with sickness/frailness like how he was in the early episodes. the whole demon vibe is basically his character 6. idk if you're referring to bingchang and prince xiao or fox demon and qingyu, but i agree in the sense that much of their story hasnt been told yet. you can tell from trailers/posters that their future carnations will explain relations better instead of just angst w/o reason as much as i love the drama i agree that their are a few offsetting details, hope later episodes can explain stories in a new light
i saw it go down, 8.8 - 8.7 - 8.6 - 8.5, lower each time T-T, idk if it's general opinion or just biased hate but the rating needs to be boosted!! there's sm effort into the costume design and cinematography on top of the amazing cast!
I dropped it after three episodes. I really have high expectations bcause of the comments I saw in tiktok saying…
it's understandable to dislike the beginning bc of pacing, but i believe the lightheartedness was mainly to set the stage for 60+ episodes of love and angst. her reason for following him was simply bc she never had the chance to exercise her freedom. a lot of her decisions in the first arc show that she has a carefree and reckless nature, and that the ml is stoic but loving (popular trope, understandable to dislike). the development beyond that is based on the contrast between their roles as lovers, which imo is what makes the later arc much more impactful. the "human trial" arc starts arnd episode 20 and basically shows how theyre fated to be. 60 episodes make a pretty lengthy drama, but i don't believe any time was wasted. i think a majority of the show's popularity comes with the gradual build up and sudden release of climaxes/conflicts. my opinion may be biased bc it was one of the first dramas i watched, but i believe it's worth a try bc the story introduces a main antagonist in ep5. i feel like the experience would still be enjoyable if you skimmed around the drama. the backstories make sense of the very chaotic introduction. this drama isn't in my top 10 but feels like a classic to me mainly bc of main couple's acting, same characters but diverse personalities. i hope you will one day enjoy the show or at least see the mortal arc!

the character by character translation is “week - life - like - so”, but strung together it means “zhou sheng like the past”. the first two characters reference the male lead’s name, and essentially states how his feelings are unchanged yet unspoken.
