I watched the first episode. Personally, I think it's okay. The first hour was adapted generally well. Some minor changes were great too. The only thing I didn't like was Kim Dae Uk. His development and the relationship with Yun Jeong Jae are practically non-existent here (and because of that, the beginning of the second episode seems rushed). One of the things I liked the most about the original was the relationships between the parents and the deep conversations they had. But in this episode, they were gone, and I'm sad.
I only watched some scenes of the second episode. I was curious about the "fight" and how they developed it here. And... nope, I didn't like it. Sorry. The problem dragged on too much, and the intervention of the brothers didn't have the same impact. And the way Kim San Ha is protecting Yun Ju Won in public? I can clearly see that they wanted to do it this way so Kim San Ha could shine... for Yun Ju Won. And I can't say that I like this type of thing. I would have preferred the "fight" to be portrayed more like the original. Not the same way, obviously, but trying to send the same message of "we are for each other" and not "the brothers are for Kim San Ha."
So... I don't think I will continue watching. But hey, that's my decision. And it's not because the drama is bad (I don't think it is), it's because I don't like how some things are portrayed in this drama in comparison to the original. Yeah, I know, it's not good to compare, but I can't help it. Go Ahead is one of my favorite asian dramas of all time.
Thank you to everyone who didn't know about this story, and they will watch "Someday or one day" before or after watching the remake. Whether you are going to like it or not, is secondary. For us, fans of SOOD, means a lot that at least you try to watch it.
For my part, I will not watch the remake (at least not at the moment). SOOD for me is a very special drama (one of the best Asian dramas I've ever watched), and I know that if I watch this remake I'm not going to enjoy it.
Can someone explain the ending to me ? I don't think i understand completely.
So happy you liked it!
The ending: When the cassette is destroyed, the loop breaks. This means that Huang Yu Xuan will never travel back in time and meet Li Zi Wei (and Li Zi Wei will never travel to the future to be with Huang Yu Xuan). The loop is broken. However, that doesn't mean that Huang Yu Xuan and Li Zi Wei will never see each other again. In fact, they already have, even without the loop, as we can see in the last scene of the drama when little Huang Yu Xuan and Li Zi Wei are on the motorbike. The ending it's a little open, but we can imagine that someday in the future they will meet again.
When I found out, I was upset too! But right now I think I like it. I'm kinda emotional about the ending. I mean, how many times have we dreamed about something? It's beautiful when thoses wishes come true at the end. I'm happy for them!
The best part of ep 35: Wen Bin and Xiao Man saving each other.
I'm really having difficulties to finish this drama. The beginning was great, but with the pass of the episodes I started to be disappointed and also a little bored. I can't avoit the comparisson between this drama and the original one, I'm sorry. It's true that I enjoyed some changes (in reference to characters, relationship, locations...), but with the change of the main plot I'm really disappointed. Although I hadn't seen SS, I would be also disapointed if I tell you the truth.
What I haven't liked: - FCJ having fantasies with Wen Bin being a woman. - FCJ accepting his feelings for Wen Bin only when he knows she is a girl. - "Homosexuality" in this drama is inexistent. How can you fall in love with someone you think he is a man without doubting of your own sexuality? - The major conflict of SS, when everyone discover that she is a girl at the end, in this one it doesn't exist. - The romance between FCJ and Wen Bin? A little poor. I'm not saying their relationship was bad, in fact it was good, better than SS in my opinion, but the romance itshelf... it was not as good.
And also, I understand she is a woman, and she wants that the man she likes knows she is a woman. But what if she was really a man? would you like that the person you love have fantasies with you being a woman? would you like that he give up so easy because you're not a woman? I know that this type of relationship would be difficult in those times, but FCJ didn't suffer with his feelings as much as his character in SS did. Their relationship in SS wasn't my favorite of the drama, but at least was more realistic.
This remake could have been so much better without the censorship because yes, they would have changed also things, but at least the treatment of the plot would have been way better. You want to know the best remake I watched that I even consider it as good as the original, and in some parts even better? The thai remake "Who are you", based in the korean drama with the same name. Best thai drama of the 2020 in my opinion.
I agree with the fact that the drama was entertaining, but they censured A LOT of topics very important from the…
Totally agree! The original one was daring, they treated a lot of important topics. It was more like a revolution, with a good resolution. In this one they treated also the equal rights for the women, but the message at the end isn't as powerful as the original, what is sad. How I said, yes, this remake is nice to watch, the cast is great, the locations are great, it's also cute in some way... but the plot is not as good as it could be. Also, the original maybe is more dramatic, but I remember to laugh a lot too (and plus, more than this one in some parts).
One of my favorite quotes from the kdrama (that sadly she doesn't say in the remake despite they put a very similar scene): "Girls don't have the qualifications to be government officials. You said this before. But professor, this is even more strange, why is Joseon, this nation, in such state? Hasn't it always been governed by men who are qualified to be officials?"
Why are people complaining? It is very fluffy, cute, well-executed.There are NO STUPID MISUNDERSTANDINGS and not…
I agree with the fact that the drama was entertaining, but they censured A LOT of topics very important from the kdrama. For my part, I don't complain about the cast, or the locations, that wasn't the problem, the censure was. Part of the important message of the original one was lost. That's why I think the kdrama is better. I understand that when you love so much something it's hard to watch another version, but believe me, the kdrama is very good too. The characters of Moon Jae Shin (Lei Ao) and Goo Yong Ha (Yu Le Xuan) are also brillant.
FCJ accepting his feelings for Wen Bin AFTER he knows she is a woman... I can't believe it! One of the best parts of the kdrama... gone! Because of the censorship! So sad. In the kdrama he accepts his feelings BEFORE. I'm sorry but despite this remake is entertaining, SS it's a better drama, it treats all the important issues muuuuch better.
I definitely agree with you. It’s obvious that they fell in love with each other because they both are intelligent…
I agree, seeing how a person fall in love with another regardless their gender it's beautiful. I've seen many dramas like this and when the ML finally accepts his feelings for the FL (when he still thinks she is man) is always one of my favorite parts. He doesn't care anymore if that person is a girl, or a boy, he's just in love, and he will go ahead with his feelings no matter what happens.
I think this is an unpopular opinion but, I feel a little sad that Feng Cheng Jun is having hallucinations with Wen Bin being a woman. Yes, she is a woman, but the impression it gives to me it's that he is falling in love with her because of that. In the kdrama at least he doesn't have hallucinations with her being a woman, only with her person. And also starts to doubt seriously about his sexuality.
In this remake they are trying to show that the only reason why a man could fall in love with another is because he looks like a woman. I'm sure this is caused by the censorship, but it's true that they have sometimes problems to treat also a gay relationship. For example, far as I know, there exists some novels where they heteronormalize the relationship (calling the other man "wife"). Maybe for some people that it's not a problem, but for me, I think it is. I just hope little by little this will change.
I just finished episode 4 and I need to say that I'm really surprised.
- The woman can pass perfectly as a man. Not only by her looks but also in her personality. The actress is doing an amazing job. It's the first time I see in a cdrama that a woman can pass realistically as a man. - I love the FL. She pretend she's not smart, nor she can fight, but actually she can. I loved that scene when she was calling for help at the same time she was fighting. - The ML falling in love with the FL thinking that she is a man. And also, doubting about his sexuality. - The kiss between Han Shi Yi and Chen Ting Yi, when Han Shi Yi looked like a MAN. Despite she is a woman, I didn't expect that with the censorship. I read that in the cdrama Arsenal Military Academy they censored a kiss. - Despite the fact of the FL passing good as a man, I can undestand some characters doubt of her. The second lead sure is interesting, and very observant. Have you seen that zoom of the camera at Han Shi Yi, where should be the adam's apple in a man? I think he really realized that Han Shi Yi didn't have one.
For the moment the plot is more focused on Han Shi Yi passing as a man and trying to not being caught. I'm really enjoying the drama. I think they are doing a good job with the theme of "the woman pretending to be a man", much better than other dramas of this style.
Totally agree with you. I also think that the relationship between Feng Cheng Jun and Xue Wen Bin in this one…
What you expose is really interesting. I don't remember especially those moments in the football, but I've seen some similars. It's true that sometimes an action can't prove that there is sexual desire involved. In The Untamed they erased that part of their relationship (at least the explicit part), but in return they increased the emotional part. If there is a sexual desire or not, it's in the interpretation of the person. With desire sexual or not, it's still love. The love can be portrayed in very different ways. Anyways, I think you can fall in love with a person in a romantic way too. The relationship of Wei Wuxian and Lang Wangji in the drama I saw it in that way, that's way I call it romance more than bromance (but how you say, bromance it's inside the "romance" so it's not totally wrong). I think one of the reasons that the drama was a hit it's also because of that, the way they portrayed the love, it's even more powerfull that some romantic films and dramas where the relationship is more focused in the sexual desire (a lot of american or european movies/series are like that, they focus more in the sexual desire than the emotional part. That's why I prefer in some way the asian dramas, because the focus in the relationships is more emotional).
I think the burgeoning romantic chemistry between Feng Cheng Jun and Xue Wen Bin (In A Class of Her Own) is much…
Totally agree with you. I also think that the relationship between Feng Cheng Jun and Xue Wen Bin in this one is better, but it's true that in some way the character of Lee Sun Joon was more interesing.
Goo Yong Ha and Moon Jae Shin were absolutely the best of Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Plus, Moon Jae Shin is one of my favorite characters of kdramas. Yoo Ah In really did an amazing job with the character. In my opinion, the character that makes more justice of the original in the remake is Yu Le Xuan (my favorite character of this remake).
Also agree with the best girl disguissed as a boy, Go Eun Chan of Coffee Prince.
For The Untamed, for my part I would not say that is bromance, it's more than that. They really did a good job portraying the relationship despite the censorship. The way we could see how they were in love, and specially through the gaze... absolutely amazing.
If you are interested, today it premiers a new cdrama where the girl crossdress like a boy too. It's called "The Heiress", and it's from Tencent. For the trailer I need to say I'm very impressed, it's the first time I see a girl in a cdrama that really looks like as a boy! Maybe that Tencent is the company has something to do with it (I mean, normally they would try to censore this)
episode 26 i presume https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-wspoRFqvM
In the kdrama she crossdress "like a girl" (she have a reason), but the ML still thinks she is a boy. After that the ML starts to have fantasies with the FL (if you have seen the preview of ep 27, it's exacly what happens). But for example it's true that they changed the order where Lei Ao finds out she is a girl. Remember in ep 24 when Wen Bin was going to take a bath and Lei Ao was in the room but the profesor appeared? in the kdrama that moment is when the second lead finds out. (I'm sad they change it because the scene in the kdrama was one of my favorites!!) Anyways I'm pretty sure he will be the next who will now. For the preview of ep 26, I think maybe he will know, because he is interfering between Wen Bin and Feng Cheng Jun (that probably means he know something and wants to protect Wen Bin)
Yo! Where do you read all these 'negative' comments? I search up and down the comments but I read only active…
I just exposed my opnion about this in a comment just below. It's not that they didn't do a good job about the character. The problem is that they probably don't want she really pass as a boy (at least from the eyes of the audience), because that will mean the romance would look like a BL romance. The BL in the cdramas is (unfortunately) censored. That's why the character of Wen Bin is in part like this. They did it on purpose.
Alert Spoilers: I'm going to talk about the preview of ep 27 and Sungkyunkwan Scandal.
In part I already knew it, but after watching the preview of ep 27 I think is more evident. First of all, I really think the character of Wen Bin is very suitable for the plot in this remake. However, this type of character implies that an important issue won't be discussed: the relationship between two men. Different characters have constantly compared Wen Bin with a girl (the things he (she) do, and his (her) appereance). In the preview of ep 27, Feng Cheng Jun is having hallucinations with Wen Bin, with the appearance of a woman. In Sungkyunkwan Scandal, although it’s true that he also sees her "pretending to be a woman", later he doesn’t imagine he (she) as a woman. After that, he begins to question his sexuality, and starts to make certain decisions. He wants to get away from him (her) because being homosexual in those days is not a good thing. This causes the two protagonists to suffer. Lee Sun Joon (Feng Cheng Jun in this remake), I have to say that there were some things that didn't quite convince me about his character, but the fact that he was finally going to accept his feelings for Kim Yoon Shik (Wen Bin in this remake) thinking he's a man, I found it very beautiful. Because of this, I am afraid that with Wen Bin and Feng Cheng Jun this part will be lost. In fact, it’s quite possible that one of the scenes from Sungkyunkwan Scandal where homosexuality is discussed will also be missed. Many Chinese dramas have censored these things, I don't think this one will be the exception. That's why I think Wen Bin's character (in part) has been constructed like this in this version. Despite she is passing as a man, they don't want we (the audience) see her as man. You will say to me, "but, and Arsenal Military Academy then?" Well, I have not seen that drama, but it seems that is adapted from a novel and they have censored some parts too (kiss included).
Maybe I'm wrong and later I will be surprised with the remake focusing in this subject (I will be very happy) but knowing how it works doing an adaptation in China, I don’t thing that happening (at least right now). And I'm talking specifically about this matter, but is not the only think they can try to censor in a cdrama.
So, yes, I’m a little sad about this, but I will not deny that I am really enjoying watching this remake. I just wanted to give my opinion about this.
This is just a fun, light drama. And if the only thing people have to pick at is the fact that she looks obviously…
Why would that be disgusting? I don't see either any problem with a FL tall, manly and passing easy like a man. If you mean that it would be weird seeing a character like this inside this specific plot, well... it's questionable. But anyways I don't think the things would tourned out the same way, because her personality would be different. For the fact of a man falling in love with a FL thinking that she is really a man (and plus looking like one), it's possible. The kdrama Coffee Prince is like that. Maybe the FL is not tall, but she really looks like a man. Even the ML question his sexuality.
For what you comment of why nobody is suspecting her, the explanation is very reasonable.
This is just a fun, light drama. And if the only thing people have to pick at is the fact that she looks obviously…
I think that in the kdrama she pass more for a boy, but in part is because of the clothes (that hides the appearance of his body) and because she pretend more to be a boy (for example trying to change her voice). Anyway, I wouldn't say either that she is too manly, just more cautious for not being discovered. Plus, the romance is not the principal focus.
I only watched some scenes of the second episode. I was curious about the "fight" and how they developed it here. And... nope, I didn't like it. Sorry. And a movie with the same name. It's not exactly a continuation of the drama, but in some way I want to think that it is, because it fits well.
I'm really having difficulties to finish this drama. The beginning was great, but with the pass of the episodes I started to be disappointed and also a little bored.
