magical mobiles and a hair-cut

There is a reason why evil characters exist and flourish: because they invariably have the cooperation of a klutz.

First Park Ha who walzes around with an open handbag in which she very casually put a check of 40.000 won. Oh, not any money, no! From that sum depends her future life: her business, her flat... everything. But hey, how else could the super evil stepsister rob her?

She gets a box from her american friend with a mysterious cell phone and what does she do? She ignores it, because she has to caress the butterfly on the postcard.

And let's have a look at the destiny of that phone: it falls out of the box, Mimi takes it per mistake (really?) and MAGICALLY it reappears in Lee Gak's pocket, just a second before he's going to have his DNA test taken, hence saved by it (how possessing a mobile phone could ever constitute evidence of your identity is another mystery, but let's cut the comedy writer some slack). Then he forgets it in the car (again due to the butterfly!!!!), right in the hand of our second super evil.

The movements of this phone go on, but it would take me half a day. Suffice to say that never in history a name was more appropriate: MOBILE phone.

After the silliness of the past episodes, I thought this one at least moves a little forward plot-wise.

The humour, like everyone already wrote, is the true highlight of this show, and the whole hair-cut odissey is, indeed, great.

hilarious

Oh my, I hadn't laughed so hard in quite a long time. Shinohara is absolutely brilliant - as usual - and had me in stitches with her beard, make up and grandmother outfit. Hahahahaha.

I love the pace of this and the women's rights issue. Both males are good to look at and both have a long way to go before I call them pleasant characters, but I trust Shinohara.

Great start! :D

don't run on high heels

I liked it.

First of all, a female character to my liking. Obviously Kim Sun Ah plays whatever role with such effortless ability, one truly believes it's one side of her personality. But the character is well written too so far. Her stance to problems is hilariously self assured, and I love a woman who can quote literature.

I could have kissed her for the way she treats arrogant customers.

The "morning-after" scene had me laughing out loud, awkward but believable.

Don't know about the guys yet, but - funnily - right now I don't really care. I like to think this drama's about her.

Rejecting a gynecologist by telling him "I have a 50 year old uterus" is pure genius. Not that it really worked, but it's the thought that counts, lol.

oh, beautiful music!

A snoring festival

A most boring episode if ever there was one. 70 minutes of mianhae uttered in every possible form, shape and length, with a background music that sounds so ominous one is compelled to believe a tragedy of cosmic proportions is going to happen - the plague, a tsunami, the attack of the giant ants.If only any of these cataclysms could finally make Jin Ah's mother be silent for a second, I'd sign for it.Now, there's only one person who still has to be informed of the scandal of all scandals: his grey eminence Joon Hee's father. I wonder if they are going to subject us to another 70 minutes of"Dad...""I...""ahhh...""ehm...""we..."etc. etc.Why am I still watching this? Mysteries of an idle mind.

There is only one reason why I am still watching…

There is only one reason why I am still watching this: the visual.

The general atmosphere created by some stunning photography and beautiful music is very... european, for some reason. Not that I ever asked an Asian drama to look like a walk through the small streets of Paris, but still it's kind of original and visually romantic. And the songs by Rachael Yamagata are enchanting.
The main couple is equally beautiful to look at. The long scenes showing them talking, laughing and walking are fresh and sweet.

However, there are many things I'm royally annoyed with.

1. That mother of hers! Please, someone gag her and lock her into a closet for the rest of the show. The woman is the embodiment of shallowness, greed, twisted values and gender discrimination, all in one irritating package. As if the drama didn't have enough idiotic males in it! Her brother comes second in my displeasure chart. And just to appease all chauvinistic viewers out there they give us a nasty piece of work ex boyfriend, harrassment at work and a steady flow of improper comments.

2. They are making a tragedy out of a 4 year gap in age! It's not as though she were a fossil and he a baby, come on! This obsession with age displayed in so many Korean dramas borders on ridicule. Jin Ah is a gorgous woman in her prime, for pete's sake. I can understand the issue "friend of my younger brother and younger brother of my friend", that's a harder nut to crack, but I wish they would stop calling her old at every given chance.

3. The amount of alcohol consumed by all in every episode so far. So, let me get this right: it's a scandal to date a slightly younger man, to be single at 35, but there's no problem whatsoever that half of the city population is wobbling and blabbing around in the grip of soju? Bah...

the omen

More than writing an episode review, I'm here to agree with kristina, the other reviewer here. I too have a bad feeling this story's not going to end the way we all want it to.

My best bet is, he's going to have some sort of health relapse but will live on..

If they let him die I'm going to fly to Korea for a strike in front of jTBC. ò_ó

so moving

In this episode I went from laughing out loud to crying. I think I've said elsewhere that I never cry, however chief Sagizaka's interview must be one of the most touching speeches ever. So simple, and yet so moving.

I love his character, he's the kind of man everyone would want for a father.

It's incredible how all these characters have grown on me. Seeing them go at some point will be tough.

Loved it!

I loved this episode. There was so much feeling in it and the acting was superb. Sagizawa's speech at the wedding was lovely, and the story of him and his wife terribly touching.

Yui Aragaki's doing an outstanding job here (not that she didn't elsewhere) and I particularly enjoyed her drunken sobbing at the end, hahaha. She was hilarious and incredibly sweet.

Very beautiful photography too.

Meh

As it seems, once again I find myself alone in being disappointed by the later episodes of this drama.

Issues that I would like to be explored are breezily skimmed over and things I would like to finally develop stagnate to the point of annoyance.

The character of Sakura, while funny and well acted as always, is not moving one inch from where she was at the very beginning. I'm starting to wonder why she's doing this drama "journey". She is still shabby, cares for her friends, talks like an old man and watches porn of all things.

Her relationship with Hiroto is somehow awkward. I couldn't help but notice how they never had a decent kiss and yet we were shown them in bed twice already. There is a lack of true chemistry building in such a screenplay choice, one I'm not fond of. Mostly because they could be so much cuter together, as it is apparent by their more simple interactions (the tickling scene was the saving grace of this episode, for me).

And what with the mystery surrounding Hiroto's sister? Why did she accuse him of having ruined her love life? I wish they wouldn't just throw the stone into the pond and then forget the issue until even the last wave has disappeared from the water surface.

As for Miki, I'm waiting with a passion for the moment she'll finally send that horrid mother in law to hell with her stupid son in tow. If she doesn't, I'm going to write to the production and cover them with insults, I promise.

All in all, I'm not having such a great fun watching this drama anymore. Unfortunately for me, I have started it and now want to know how it ends.

The Orange Society

This is a drama to be marathoned. That's why I'm jumping from episode 1 to 5. It doesn't really matter that much whether one episode is sightly better than the next or what happens when exactly. It's a sweet story made of great moments, the best of which are those picturing the friendship among 5 adorable characters.

Eita is hilarious, even though the laughter is at the expense of his love misfortunes.

I give this one a 10 for the lovely camping scenes. It truly conveys a lot of fond memories.

Brilliant acting.

a little dull

What with all the expectations created by last week's preview, I found this episode quite boring.

Sakura seems so little invested in her love life it's deflating my enthusiasm too.

She's still as hilarious as ever - which is the saving grace of the show, for me - but I wish she would at least change her hairdo before I start screaming in frustration.

What purpose does a passionate liason with a hot 24 year old serve, if she's not rendered more self assured? Her carelessness for her appearance goes on a parallel path with her not truly caring for any man right now. And while I can see Hiroto growing affection, I can't imagine them ever being completely happy together. They are simply mismatched.

I also wish they woudn't make Chiyoko into some psychopath and let her have her sweet romance too.

politics

I am a little disappointed at the amount of time they dedicated to the evil man in this episode. Time which would have been used a lot more meaningfully to show us Hang Ah and Jae Ha interactions, so beautiful they are together.

The political developments, on the other hand, are absolutely necessary to the plot, as they mirror the lovers's situation on a grander scale. It's too soon for those two (meaning HA/JH and North/South Korea) to trust each other, and good will - or love - are no longer enough.

The machinations of the secretary are so frustrating, I'll call him Iago from now on.

Another pair of incredibly moving scenes in this episode, and brilliant Ha Ji Won, who, in the space of 9 episodes, has shown so many different sides of the same character and made it believable it leaves me speechless.

saved by the ending

This episode bored me until the last 5 minutes. They made me hope for some spark which I truly couldn't see until now.

I'm glad Park Ha regained her memory and I can only hope she will keep this kind of behaviour towards SeNa, and not have one of those forgiving moment that would turn Park Ha into Saint Parka.

I don't think adding a meddling stepmother who conceals the real one to the recipe is a great move. This plot is already overly-complicated as it is. There are so many plot lines I need a navigator.

The reason why I go on watching is... Mikey Yoochun. He's the only character whose arc in the story I'm truly interested in, and I honestly think he's the one showing the best acting.

What?????

Wait, now we have 2 abandoned daughters? From the same mother?

Did she become a chairman by scattering babies all over the continent?

And what's even worse, they are sisters, after all.

Ok, no amount of cuteness can atone for such a plot. The bright side is: you won't have to bear with my reviews anymore. Unless in future I go through a period of unparalleled boredom or I have a high fever, I drop this thing with a sigh of relief.

Cluedo

It's official: I'm stupid.

Basically, I've understood nothing of this episode, except:

1. We are finally out of a flashback that lasted 3 episodes and a half.

2. Grey bearded, wrinkled fogeys in hanbok will never win a word battle against young scholars. Because these last are prettier.

3. While severing enemies heads and happily basking in bloody battles, Ddol Bok found the time to learn how to write

4. Korean eat seal penis (???)

5. There's a corpse in the library, but the murderer wasn't Professor Plum with the candlestick.
