and there's just something artistic when the scene didn't literally show how it happened but at the same time gave the viewers an understanding of what actually happened. I appreciate they did it that way. it made it more meaningful.

Some people complain about why Taohua doesn't just tell the truth. Even in the novel Taohua never say anything to him, not about her past or the poison. She has been fighting alone, only to survive and protect her brother. Empress Lu is ruthless. Her and her brother's lives are in her hands. If she carelessly tells her secrets and there is movement from Zaiye, who knows what will Lu do to her brother? Or perhaps to Taohua? The recipe for the antidote is on Lu's hands, but it is not to detoxify her poison.

Zaiye can investigate her past and makes plans to help her. But will his plans and her plans carry the same vision? They are, after all, from different countries. Will Zaiye be willing to help the enemy's country? What if Zaiye actually uses her after knowing her secrets? Or after knowing the political situation in Beiyuan?

Feel so pity for the princess in eps 18 &19 but I'm glad that Zai Ye finally knows everything about her!

So far I love everything about this dramas! Liu Xue Yi and Meng Zi Yi are truly perfect for their roles. Their performance are amazing!!!

Love the ending song. Initally, I did not have any impression about this song but the more I listen to it, the more I like it. The music of this song is very unique!

Okay I kinda actually like the tropes the drama has :,) even if they're cliche and against the og novel... like amnesia isn't the /worst/thing they could have brought out

Also I'm prob in the minority but I respect FL for not giving in with info towards the ML. I know it's v satisfying if she relents and asks him for help and they work together and whatnot but she's always been an independent survivor who doesn't want to harm others so I feel like it makes sense for her to be extra stubborn. Her initial reticence is a little annoying yes but I meannn it doesn't take long for him to find out what happens so at least they didn't drag it out. idk just wanted to put that out there to balance out all the frustrated/hate comments haha

I have just recently started watching this and so far I am finding it interesting and enjoyable to watch. I already felt the tension between Liu Xue Yi and Meng Zi Yi from the get go. I think this will be the first Liu Xue Yi drama of the year which I won't end up dropping, hopefully the story remains good.

I finally caught up. The tension, the misunderstandings and the reveal... ep 18 and 19 was good.

For the record, I really enjoy this drama and don’t quite understand all the negativity in this comment thread. Yes, someone falls off a cliff—but that kind of thing happens in the vast majority of historical dramas. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure it was worth tagging as a spoiler. Oh well, 8.3 I guess I am not the only one who likes this drama.

I was hasitating to watch this drama because of concubine thing. But now I'm starting to like it!! This is what dark drama is and what dark drama should have. The schemes, plotting, tension between the leads is top tier and thrilling. This is truly not for those romancy-lovey dovey people cuz this is a literal dark romance, where their love blooms in the midst of plotting against each other, lol. But yeah this is my kind of dark romance as a booktok girlie who read lots of dark romance books (this is just actually mild compare to what I've previously read dark romance before). This is really really good, why people have something to complain when it's literally it's genre being dark.

POV regarding the FL - The way I see her is that she is a product of her upbringing. No one to trust and the only way to survive under all circumstances is to say nothing no matter what. I also am imagining her focused 24/7 on saving her brother and in automatic default mode all of her moves (including those that make no sense on the surface) are in service of that ultimate goal. She takes a step forward towards him irregardless of who is or is not around her. Its one of the points that makes this drama interesting - that both the FL & the ML are not just motivated by revenge.

Exactly. They are both guarded against each other because of their personal history so there will be a lot of misunderstandings. I love it. It creates drama and that's what this is. Not a movie.
