This is a good drama to watch...story is good with minimum glitch. Actings by ML and FL are good and suited to their roles. The Director and production should be more alert in costume suitability for FL in some of the scenes which sometimes don't made sense. The role of 3rd Prince was also played well by GH. Anyway, I still enjoy watching this drama.

There were so many negative comments, but I worried for nothing. It’s not the best, but it’s not bad enough to drop. The peach blossom is better than the snow ending in Kill Me Love Me. 😭

I’m surprised by so many negative comments here. I actually like this drama. Liu Xue Yi delivers a phenomenal performance, and Meng Zi Yi’s acting is also quite good, although she was somewhat limited by how the FL was written midway through the drama. I also love the OST.
The first 18 episodes were excellent, episodes 19-29 were just okay, and episodes 30-36 were good. I looked forward to the new episodes every day and couldn’t stop thinking about this drama each night! I can really feel the chemistry and love between the ML and FL. It would have been better if Mu Wu Yin had become the ML's love rival, but instead, he falls for the Empress, which doesn’t quite convince me

I beg to differ from most of you. I watch this drama primarily to see how they write the villains. Princess's…
Absolutely agreed! It’s rare in C dramas that villains are written in such a satisfying way and that their character traits/stories become their downfall. What a wasted potential though as I found the rest of the story lacking and not well written. Also the romance was unsatisfying imo, and it was not LXY‘s fault. He definitely delivered.

Loved your perspective & I totally agree that a villain without depth or main leads who don’t undergo a growth arc shaped by moral dilemma, water down the show. In that sense, this drama managed to flesh out strong characters & weave intriguing plots connecting them. The costumes, cinematography & the OST are brilliant & can be an example worth following for future dramas. But the editing could have been a LOT better. The narrative felt like a ‘buffering live soccer match’ where we see the start & the goal scoring moment but can’t feel excited as we missed the juicy part of ‘assists, defence & offence’.

The novel readers could connect the dots & resonate with the characters but in the drama we were robbed of that joy in more than one instance due to lacklustre editing & screenplay. Especially the 3rd Prince arc with the FL’s memory loss. This could’ve been an angst filled love & hate intertwined battle of wits scenario, testing loyalties but they let it crumble down to a plain old ‘ML turns soft & FL an indifferent damsel in distress’ plot. Many characters were left unexplored like Concubine Lan, SZY’s concubines, the Qin family/ 2nd Prince, Qian Mo Chen. & so on. They amplified the 3rd Prince arc & the poisoning plot so much that it overshadowed the tense 1st half & left little room for other characters to shine.

Overall I love it, the characters and story but of course there were a few scenes didn’t make sense. The flow is great and I feel the two mains had equal scenes, they were equally smart…. etc. Really didn’t like those focus only on ML or FL especially FL 😅 making the ML looking “dumb” 😅 well maybe a little ML were all over her at one point…..

Okay gotta give it to them for this episode. The past episodes were lacking and I'm glad the battle scenes did not disappoint. We're reaching climax and it's starting to get better again

Chang Jue is effing fierce. Cool character and lead male material.

Third prince is effing tragic and deeply disturbed. Groomed, obsessed. Seemingly cunning but actually a deeply misled and weak romantic at heart.

She wants to find out about Wuyin's relationship with Empress Lv. As she's not sure she'll survive, she doesn't want to involve ML. Neither her maid...It's all in the title ‘the princess' gambit’. She doesn't give up her principles but wants to help everyone even if she has to sacrifice herself...

I'm a huge fan of LXY. MZY, to her credit, toned down her makeup enough in this show that I was actually able…
Well then you have to consider the ML's background too. At that point - when he first encounter her -- he was poisoned by someone else first, and she also so happened to be poisoned too - both of them being poisoned in a situation where life and death is a matter of the unknown. So, of course at that time, the ML attacked her- because he didn't know who she was at that time, nor how she ended up where he was too. Remember she was being chased by wolves - and he was being attacked left and right by others from his country. The 2 collided hence the rough confrontation.

As well, the ML can't trust anyone around him, after what happened to his father when he was young. The FL's background was unclear too when she came to Qi, forced by the Empress LV - poisoned by her and being controlled by her too. Therefore, of course the ML's action went the way it went for a long time.

The two lack trust with one another - partly do the fact, she's trying to stay alive/survive b/c her brother is held captive by Empress LV. One wrong move, her life is on the line. At the same time, the ML has a lot to deal with too as a Chancellor of Qi, the noble families have their agendas of wanting to take him down - as he was at that time investigating the "fake money" that's be circulating around the Qi country and people (esp men) being held as captives - working illegal for a mine that makes those "fake money".

The two eventually had a fake marriage turned real - b/c he realizes the FL has the strength and power that works well with him to over throw the others in his harem. It wasn't a clean way of doing so, but in the process he fell in love with her. So did she. But even so, they still have there distrust - b/c the FL didn't tell him the truth about her background - or even discuss with him the poison she had in her.

Only when she fell over the cliff - after she wanted divorce - in that risky plan of her and his (without discussion between the two of them) - did he found out the full truth of her background.

Although, now that she is alive and well, they still have their conflicts and own agendas to deal with. But the ML regrets many things and wants to do anything to support her - despite her choice of fighting such a huge battle on her own. Had they sat down and really opened up to each other - the misunderstandings won't happened - then they can work together better to take down those evil people faster - rather than get attacked by these evil people all the time.

Only one question, Does he have other wives or concubines?
His concubines only appear on early episodes, barely gets screentime. He doesn't have any interactions with them either, only with his principle wife, for a tea and threat.

I am honestly amazed to understand how the director thought 8,978 shots of Meng Zi Yi with the same wide eyes,…
Calling someone “r*tarted” looking in the big year of 2025 , wow , could you be any less embarrassing

I hope you know it’s was a derogatory term used to describe people with intellectual disabilities

Because i genuinely can’t imagine what anyone could mean when they say someone looks “r*tarted”

Criticse anyone’s looks or skills all you want but don’t go around using derogatory terms like that
