I'd never look at my father the same after killing someone in front of me, man killing in historical drama is…
The complete disregard for human life in sageuk mirrors the Buddhist and shaman beliefs prevalent at the time - i.e. reincarnation. Coupled with Confucian tenets, they seriously believed that adherence to filial peity will ensure a good reincarnation and as long as they die doing their duty, any day was a good day to die.
First, it was the intro that piqued my curiosity. Then I saw the MV and thought it had to be from a movie. Reddit helped figure out which movie. I prefer this ending compared to the Apple of my eye 😅
😂 Everyone thinks her musings about the missing "dragon" in the men's room is funny until they realise that specific eunuchs in Korea had their "dragons" fully removed.
The captain, a certified overachieving know-it-all with a sad past. The lieutenant, a retired boxer and the oldest of the team but somehow the most amateurish and childish - another victim of over superstitious parents. The seargent, a former Olympic contender who can only suck up to his superiors hoping his hard work and familiarity will lead to a promotion. The only woman in the team, temperamental and proud of her social status as a member of the working class - looks at the elite and wealthy with pure disdain. The rookie of the team who may or may not be a chaebol heir and whose observations and comments are best left forgotten.
These are the characters of a "comedy" that tried so hard to elicit laughter through cheap slapstick, gag, dad jokes and overacting it looked like some of them were stoned half of the time. While there were some really laughter inducing moments, they were nothing to write home about.
While office rivalry and bullying were shown and discussed, that these were done in moderation is a breath of fresh air. As a foreign viewer living in a country that does not tolerate bullying and physical abuse and takes gender equality seriously, one can only endure so much of the toxic traits in Korean culture that people brush off as another kdrama plot and do nothing about.
So the family woes began when parents prostituted their daughter off to a wealthy family to recover for themselves their social status through marriage. As a member of Confuciusian society ever conscious of patriarchy, the husband could not bear it that his wife was better at managing the business - even his own father favored his wife. So he threw a tantrum and left the fold only to return with a young boy. He also found that his ex-wife has returned with a kid even though they have not conjugated. What could he do but turn her into his son's whipping girl. Being weak of constitution, the girl could only choose to go amnesiac while the boy chose to compartmentalize his memories thus going full DID. Add in a pinch of identity theft and presto.
The series is an exploration of what happens to the kids when adults make self-serving decisions. When the adults act like toddlers, the actual kids are the ones scarred.
I'm tired of detective tropes where the MC is a jerk and the police are idiots. Sidekick is a pushover it's tiring to watch.
Also the Japanese dramas like this really like pushing for "saving" criminals from unaliving themselves so they could face trial for a crime and be sentenced to death. Waste of taxpayers money and moot considering the notoriety of the Japanese legal system.
If you don't mind watching anime then best to watch it instead of this live action adaptation. I always choose anime adaptations because of how the production team is able to portray the nuances of the story better than live action. Experience has taught me that live action adaptations of Japanese anime is a hit or miss. More often than not it is a miss and the only live action adaptation I have enjoyed so far is Samurai X.
Nah seriously what's wrong with Japan and terminal illness trope????!! 60% of their shows or moves has some kinda…
😂 You must be from the new generation of viewers and have not seen old Korean movies and series. Like they started this trope but graduated from it. Japan on the other hand seems to wallow in it.
Very nice review but I hate it when foreign viewers complain about things in a series that was NOT made for a foreign viewer in mind. This is a Thai series created for the Thai audience so if you are a non Thai, shove your foreign ideas of norms and morals somewhere else. Just save yourself from grief and stop watching foreign series and stick to shows created in your own country.
Thanks for providing this comment. I know violence of this type and the characters not providing any kind of explanation…
I honestly can't figure out what's going on in the writers mind when they include scenarios like that. Considerin how Japanese culture value hierarchy in their society, slapping a sensei regardless of gender has got to be the stupidest thing to as a student regardless of gender.
As much entertainment as there is to be found in reading immature MDLers shrieking "PEDOPHILE!" when they don't…
Thanks for providing this comment. I know violence of this type and the characters not providing any kind of explanation or reaction and just go "I'm sorry" like it was there fault is a common trope in kdramas and JDramas I still can't stomach it. I especially dislike all that slapping - I mean I dare any man to do that to any woman in my country and I'm sure the woman will castrate him on the spot or her family will. Our women don't tolerate that kind of nonsense 😂
Well this one is fiction although it seems to normalise slapping strangers. TLDR - not watching the series.
I am in ep 6 and I have to say that the FL is Unbelievable. she is so immature and childish. She is literally…
In Korean age she may be 19 but in universal age she is only 18. In Korea you are considered an adult at 20 which is 21 in international age. Give her a break.

Ktrauma - 20%
Kdrama - 80%
