because this drama isnt even decent with production, but if viewers are ready to ignore such huge flaws in the drama, theyre obviously going to expect a good plot in return, not a generic one. thats basically the unspoken trade off with any show like this, people will forgive bad editing or cheap production if the story actually delivers something worth sitting through all that for, but when the plot doesnt offer anything new, there's nothing left to justify overlooking the issues. you cant expect people to be lenient on every front at once, at some point something has to actually be good for the whole package to work. so those other dramas were well received because they actually managed to deliver something for the audience, unlike overdo.

i don't even think this counts as a "female empowerment drama", its more like a growth journey for basically everyone in the village, not just fang. every side character seems to have their own flaws and reasons for how they act, so it's less about lifting one woman up by making the men look dumb, and more about showing that everyone, including xiaowei, is just a flawed person trying to figure their life out
