The main reason for the accolades, nominations, and awards, seems to be the fine reputation of the director, Park…
I think it's very much related to what a person expects when they watch the film. It wasn't for everyone, I guess. Nothing is for everyone, though! So that's fair!🙂

Well, it's not action-based so I don't think it was made with the intention to be exciting. I think it was done with the intention to make the viewer look into details and ponder the interactions and then question everything.
This is not a disagreement or anything (I haven't read/watched many of these, actually. So I can't judge them either way!), I would just like to add "Goodbye My Princess" as a personal favorite. it's both very true to the book and also adds a lot of interesting details and subplots that weren't so fleshed out or present in the book.
All the things you said! I'm almost done with it but I hate every second. It's childish and over the top and the main characters are some of the stupidest I've ever seen. The moment the rich jerks showed up, the show lost its it factor. It's just lofty fantasy masquerading as deep commentary
wierd question: I was browsing in gay male lead tag and this movie also popped up! is there a gay character?
There is! It's subtextual! As in, you have to be aware of it to notice it. A lot of us who watched the movie when it first became available were all aware of the subtext because there was a lot of articles and conversation about it at the time. I guess with time those conversations were forgotten so the movie's message got a bit lost too.
