I'm just going off from what ML's saying because it seemed like he could have done something different, but because he wanted to use this chance to take out Nangong Chui, he didn't, which is why he's so mad at the OG Yang guy because like you said OG Yang turned Xiao Wu over and this is the gamble ML went with.
