It looks like Chu Yue is also dead which is why she was able to see the boy and he's leading her to the afterlife…
It's my version of how I interpret it because she's envisioning a boy that looks similar to Shisan, but is supposedly RY and NYZ's kid, and the CGI makes it seem like she's already dead. Plus, she was heading towards the green meadow even after envisioning that the gang were dead and were together there.
I share your feelings, this was a devastating ending.Im so frustrated. The writers where very cruel. Take care…
There was someone on FB named Li Xia that worded it nicely. To me, Chu Yue is already dead which was why she's able to see the son and envision that the gang are together. Her following the son means that he's taking her to the afterlife and to meet the gang. Let me see if I can copy and paste her words.

About the ending and the boy, Ning Shisan. (How I assumed it) . . Don't stress out much thinking if they (Ruyi and Yuanzhou) are alive or not. Because they aren’t. I know we didn’t see their dead body or graves. But if they’re alive, it would be absolutely illogical. There is no possibility of their coming back based on their last scenarios. No pills can save YuanZhou after those spear attacks (we can literally imagine his body pierced into two pieces). And it’s not possible for Ruyi to escape that explosive. . . In the end, the boy we see, Ning Shisan, is just an imagination of Chu Yue and a representation of taking her to the others. Meaning, she is joining the others in the afterlife world..
Ning Shisan saying all the details was also her daydreaming conversation about what Chu Yue (maybe) had been thinking. Because all these years, she was spending a lonely life and missing Yu Shisan, thinking about that tragic war.
Then why not Yu Shisan in her imagination? Why Ruyi and Yuanzhuo’s child? Because the makers also wanted to give us hints about the afterlife: Ruyi, Yuanzhou, and the other four.
Remember all those scenarios, group gossip, and teasings about Ruyi wanting a baby with Yuanzhou? And what kind of life YZ and Ruyi wanted? YZ wanted a peaceful and normal life, while Ruiy wanted to go on adventures. That’s how the details Ning Shisan gave; Living in the academy dozens of miles away (his father is good at making the best wine, his mother can perform the best swordplay) and then Chu Yue seeing the others riding their horses with their weapons (like an adventurous team right? Just as Ruyi wished). All these were just hints.
About his name and his sister's name (Yuan Lu), the same- all are imaginations of Chu Yue. She wasn’t close to all the squad members except for Yu Shisan and (later) Yuanzhou and Ruyi. She may have heard stories about Yuan Lu and how close he was to YZ from A'Ying. She didn’t even meet the others. So, all she could have imagined was Younzhou and Ruyi’s kid's name after Shisan and YuanLu.
It also hinted at the beginning of the after-ten-years leap scene. "It’s always a pleasure to greet a friend who comes from afar."
That friend is Ning Shisan from the afterlife. (Don’t think logically here; dying people usually have such visions😅). . . . There could be mistake in my writing; feel free to point them out...😊 . . [Why I think it this way: because I've seen some spiritual movies and dramas (Turkish) having these kinds of endings for about-to-die people 😂]

It was frustrating because even for the movie Lord of The Ring, they all survived 😂. Why couldn't this writer do the same? Or I was fine with just having a couple of them die, which is reasonable for a war plot ending.
I would say for others to stop at ep 34 when Ruyi and NYZ found eachother and conclude it there if you don't have…
Ep 31 to ep 34 were done well! I feel like ep 27 to 30 were not needed unless you want to see more of YSS. The main couple died - NYZ died from multiple stabbing with loss of blood and RY died from taking out the main enemies with YL's bomb. YY is alive and married to LTG - they both live.
I have to disagree about the comment on LSS. Her character was always the stronger one so she tends to hold it in and not show her emotions easily like NYZ. Plus, the director didn't give her a lot of scenes to cry for or expand the duration of her crying scenes. If you watch back on ep 20, where NYZ is dying, her eyebrows does furrow because NYZ means alot to her and even at the end of ep 20 ongoing to ep 21 she was only silently crying until Shisan showed up. That's why her crying scenes are subtle, but the tears and sadness are still there since she's the mentally stronger one.
Whew...Those last 6 episodes were hard to stomach ngl. I still don't even know what to rate this drama at. I cried, laughed, cried, laughed, and cried. I knew what was coming, tried to be optimistic like Shisan said, and embraced it openly, but it still didn't stop me from feeling sad. Thankfully, I wasn't balling like crazy, but to lose one character after another and then everyone...was a big blow. Yuan Lu's death got to me the most, and by then it was just so painful that I became numb but not unfeeling to the others' death afterwards. Sighs...I don't think I can listen to ANY of AJTL's ost in the meantime - at first, it was beautiful but now all I can hear is just sadness and separation, and my heart can't take it. I know it was inevitable for the gang to survive, but I had at least hoped the writer wouldn't be so cruel to take everyone. The journey was indeed beautiful, but the ending was devastating. I love the gang so much and hope that they can work together again and have a better HE - even if we can't get the whole gang, IDC what anyone says but I want my leads together again with a HE. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to that Happy Saturday episode with English sub to bring some smile back in my life. BYE AJTL, I will miss everyone.
🤣 You're not weird - that's just you. I only do that with some dramas where I feel like they might have sad ending and I don't want to invest my time watching the whole thing. I hardly read books and I only pick up a few C-Novels per year. Usually, I take a look at the sypnosis and reviews before starting a book.
