Unfortunately, the final twist was pretty obvious to me by ep 2 (the roses + the narrator + "I know him from somewhere" scenes). So other than a story about an author falling deeper and deeper into dillusions (which yeah, was somewhat satisfying, i hated him) this show didn't have much to offer to me. Acting was great and so was the music, but apart from that, if you know you're just watching imaginary story, it's not thrilling at all.
[Ep 24] I really don't have a clue why the marquis sent his OWN SON to kill the prisoner. Okay, maybe he needed someone super loyal for this suicide mission. But then the son revealed his face BY HIMSELF. His bandana didn't fall during a fight, he just took it off. This really could have been done better. The fact that the consort has the edict and the queen doesn't know about it makes no sense either. Marquis was after it too, wouldn't he ask Ye Li's father what happened to it? And then the queen would know that the consort has it? The show is unfortunately plagued by plotholes in the second half. I can get behind silk that sets people on fire, but not stupidifying characters. The romance also lost it steam, and I am losing my will to continue it.
I really hope that chairman's death is a trap, cause letting that evil witch visit him alone, time and time again without security would be beyond stupid. And if he's dead, at least she won't visit lol.
Just a year late to share my new theory about why NH was answering YM rudely when they met in the modern times during the last episode (when she took off his sunglasses). First, he didn't know she is back yet. Second, he didn't want her to fall for Nan Feng! She told him herself that Nan Feng is rude, and he did not want her to fall for Nan Feng until she goes to the book and falls for Nan Heng, so he kept the rude act until he was sure. It's so cute how he was waiting for her, I can't. This is the best ending ever.
Do Korean doctors actually perform acupuncture? Isn't it widely considered to be pseudoscience?
It's traditional korean medicine. And I don't think it's pseudoscience? Needles are used even in western physiotheraphy. I recommend The Best Thing if you want to learn more about (chinese) traditional medicine through a drama!
Why is he suddenly playing 2nd male lead? Did something happen?
Yeah the scandal with his ex (Seo Yea-ji) was brought to life after Mr Queen. So then he disappeared for a while, came back with Kokdu which was a huge disaster, and now is trying to rebuild himself in second lead roles.
I really loved how In ah didn't let Ah jeong's vile comments about Ki jun get to her. In many kdramas one comment like this would give dramatic content for a whole episode. But In ah was confident in her relationship and didn't doubt Ki jun one bit.
Ultimately I don't really think the drama lost its comedy or became dull after the first episodes. The comedy was always there and its quality was top notch, though it was interrupted by sadder parts. And I think people are too harsh on the drama element. Just a few years ago we got a thriller element in every single romcom. Before that, there was the childhood connection and family feud. Compared to that, here the drama is well written and in line with the theme. Even though the first 4 eps were truly spectacular, this is still a rare case of ending that delivered.
The way their relationship is written in eps 9-12... You don't really see this in many kdramas. They bicker, they fight, they make each other laugh. I thought they would make more of a passionate couple rather than cozy and loving one, but it really suits Kijun and Inah the best. This is such a gem of a kdrama.
Coming to see the rating drop so much speaks more about the viewer than the writer...A LOT of viewers don't pay…
What a great comment. I don't like the tone shift too, I wish the writer focused more on comedy cause she clearly excels at it. But if it stayed chill people would complain about it being boring... while the quality of the drama did not drop, it just focused more on different things and characters as it went on. So yeah, I'm not a fan of the second leads. But I enjoy the main leads enough to still completely love the drama.
