Kind of disappointing

Okay so when I read what this was about and watched the trailer I was really excited. I mean who wouldn't love a story about a woman who can hear a cat and talks to it, right? But unfortunately Natsume, the cat, wasn't involved enough for me and he was what I liked most about the whole story.
This just really focused more around the romance which is fine just not what I wanted. Also I really felt like the romance developed way too fast, but then again it was only 8 episodes.
So all in all it was okay. Natsume was great and that was about all I enjoyed of it.

One of the greatest love stories of all time!!!!

This is sooooooooooooo good!!!!! Top 3 favourite dramas ever!! Be prepared to cry and not be able to think about anything but this show for weeks after finishing it. So good. Phenomenal acting, phenomenal storyline, amazing everything.

I’ve re-watched this show three times now and I still get so affected by it. One episode I’m laughing and smiling so hard my face hurts and the next I am ugly crying in the foetal position on my bedroom floor. And I’m not gonna lie after I finished the series I couldn’t watch anything else for over a week it just lingers in my head.

There has only been one other drama that I feel is on the scale of this drama and that is The Story of Yanxi Palace. So if you enjoyed this show at all I think that you would probably really like The Story of Yanxi Palace.

CW: Domestic abuse, gaslighting, animal abuse

CW: Domestic abuse, gaslighting, animal abuse

This drama was a lot of fun despite some of the heavier topics discussed in it. I really loved that they depicted getting help for your mental health issues in such a positive way. I don’t live in Korea but from what I can tell based off of variety shows and other dramas that I’ve watched talking about mental health is not very common and is still some thing people aren’t comfortable with it seems so I really appreciate that this drama decided to show that.

High expectations hardly ever pan out

What I liked
- The cameo from Park Bo Young and Park Hyun Sik!!!
- The cast. I was really excited to see Seung woo who I've been a fan of since his time in Wanna One, and I really enjoyed Lee You Mi who played on e of my favourite characters in Squid Game.
- The background story of Nam Soon's parents

What I didn't like
- The drug storyline. It felt very heavy handed and I couldn't stop myself from thinking that this was very politically handled(?). This might sound out of pocket but kind of like propaganda, I can't think of another word for what I'm thinking.
- Because of how heavily they focused on the drug storyline it felt like the romance took a backseat.
- Si O's storyline. Specifically the romance(?) aspect with Nam Soon. I felt like there was so much potential there and it was all thrown away for the sake of the stupid drug storyline. The chemistry was there and I felt like it could've been a good love triangle but it was just used as something to create a couple of jealous moments for Hee Sik.
-It felt like there were too many things happening at once. There were so may side characters and they all had there respective storylines so it made it hard to focus on the romance of the main couple

Ultimately I feel disappointed by this. Partly that is because I had high expectations because of how much I loved "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon", it's one of my favourite dramas. But if I put that aside I think that I would've still been disappointed by this drama. I don't regret watching it, there were quite a few times that I was laughing and having a good time but I don't think that I will be rewatching this or recommending it to anyone.

Worth the watch for the most part

Slight spoilers (just an overview, no details)

For the first three quarters of this show I was convinced this was going to be my favourite modern day Chinese drama. I think I set myself up for failure a bit, so that's on me. I had such a good time watching this, I laughed so much and was smiling throughout a majority of the show. I think where it lost me was when they went to university. Maybe it was because the friend group was apart. I know that the university timeline didn't last very long, only a couple of episodes, and I'm grateful for that. I think that once they were out of high school the sense of urgency was gone. The main couple had gotten together and were very stable. The other plotlines that were explored during high school were kind of ignored for a couple of episodes and only really picked back up in the last 2 or 3. But because the episodes themselves are fairly short, only about 30 mins, it didn't feel like it was enough time to pique my interest again in the other couple. I think what I'm trying to get across is that it felt like everything could've wrapped up in three episodes after the graduated high school.

With that being said though I still really enjoyed this and I think I will rewatch the first part often.

My FAVOURITE show!!!

I experienced such an array of emotions whilst watching this drama it is truly amazing. The way that this story was structured, the fact that they were able to have it span over 10 years and it kept me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE time. Amazing spectacular phenomenal.

I have re-watched this drama at least five times and I still am so engaged during the entire show and even though I’ve watched it so many times I still get emotional during those emotional scenes even though I know what’s going to happen it just still gets me. I feel like at this point I’ve formed an emotional attachment to all of the characters and that’s not something that happens to me usually.

The only other drama or show that can hold a candle to this in my opinion would be Moon lovers: Scarlet Hearts of Ryeo the Korean version. So if you enjoyed this show as much as I did or even a normal amount I would highly recommend watching moon lovers.

Am I the only one who was disappointed?

What I enjoyed
- Bong Hwan/So Yong was by far the best part of this drama for me
- the theme song was fantastic! I found myself getting so excited whenever it started playing
- whenever the Queen was in the kitchen
- Hong Yeon and Lady in waiting Choi, I became very attached to them
- Shin Hye Sun's acting!!!

What I didn't like
- how political it became a little over half way through
- the relationship between Jo Hwa Jin and Kim So Yong. I personally am very tired of seeing two women fighting over a man. I feel like that trope is extremely overused and that something else would've been fine to use as conflict.

the first bit was my favourite. It was funny and lighthearted but around episode 11 it started to get more and more politically focused and pulled me out of the story. I found myself skipping through a lot of the political bits and am now relieved that it's over. I am really surprised that this is my reaction because I was very much anticipating this. My favourite part was definitely the Shin Hye Sun's acting. She was so good and I can't wait to check out her other works!

worth it!

I really enjoyed this. Around the middle though I was getting a bit frustrated and had to take a break but once I finally started watching again the rest of the show made up for that annoying bit.

I really loved the characters especially Seon-kyeong, and I loved the side plot with Ji-na. Ji-na and Dong-kyeong's friendship was also really great. I love when drama's have a strong friendship aspect along with the rest of the plot.

The plot really intrigued me from the start but later on it became more obvious that it was an impossible situation. That is what made me have to take a break from the show.

such potential

This was a bit disappointing.
Overall I'm not mad that I watched it but I'm probably never going to watch/think about it again.
Things I didn't like:
- Chi Woo's lips were always so red and I know that he's a vampire but I think that was overkill
- Some of the acting took me out of the story
- in episode 14 something happened that was kind of unexpected but not in a good way more in a way like they didn't develop the story properly

Things I liked:
- The actress who played Yeon Seo
- the episodes are only around 10 minutes each so it's really easy to watch
-The Llama vampire toy thing

Worth the hype :)

I wasn't sure at first that this would be for me, I'm usually more of a romance based story lover, but this really surprised me. Squid game has no romance, and I wasn't bothered in the least about it. I was just an interesting story with morally grey compelling characters.

I'm a bit confused about the ending. I'm not sure if they did it that way so that there could possibly be another season or just to make the viewer think? But overall, this kept me very engaged and I really liked it a lot!

If the creators were to do another show set in this world, I would LOVE to see more about how it started, how the workers are chosen and just more about the frontman. The frontman had the potential to be a really interesting character, the story just wasn't focusing on him. I just want to know why he chose to join the game maybe even (SPOILERS) see what his original game was like and ultimately led him to abandon his family and become a major part of the game.

Do you care about programming? I don't :)

Let me give some context before you read this review. This was impromptu, this was meant to be my personal notes that I made while watching. I wasn't planning on sharing but I felt like the review section was filled with glowing 10/10 reviews, and while that is wonderful, it did not represent my experience. I am so glad for the people who thoroughly enjoyed this, I wish I was there with you. This review is intended for those who are not enjoying the show and feel as though they are the only ones who aren't.
Episode 18- I feel so bored. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT PROGRAMMING! The only thing that has gotten me this far is the romance and they only started dating in episode 17!! I don't feel like I'm in this for the long haul. Maybe it's just my mood lately, because it seems like everyone loves this. Am I missing something? I think the romance has a lot of potential and I think they have great chemistry. But, I don't care about programming and I don't care about the side characters. Jianhong is SO GD ANNOYING CAN A PERSON BE MORE PATHETIC! I started skipping through a majority of the computer bits a couple episodes ago. I feel as though as I'm writing this I am convincing myself to drop it. I mean I'm not even half way through. At this point I don't think I care about the 'mystery' of how Li Xun got into prison and how they got to that point at 25. let's get things freaking moving!
I just went back to continue watching episode 18 and I can't do it. I went and read some reviews of the few people who didn't rate it a 10/10 and I feel even more irritated. It has only confirmed that It will be even more annoying. I think maybe I just hate this type of angst. The only decision now is should I put it on hold or should I drop it. I am a person who gets FOMO easily and I do really like the couple. Their potential HURTS ME. But, I think I will drop it because there is no chance that this will get a high rating from me.

So much potential

First things first the OST was amazing. I think that the OST is the reason I enjoyed this so much, it made me feel very nostalgic. The first third was my favourite. Her time as Yoon Juwon was a 10/10 for me. As for her time as Ban Jieum, I enjoyed that best when only Aegyeong knew about her past lives. Once Chowon found out and especially when Seoha found out it kind of felt like "what now?". When her first life started becoming more important I was interested but I think that it was too much. I think that there was too much going on so I wasn't able to connect to the characters, I felt like I didn't know who they were which version of them am I meant to connect with. I felt like I was being pulled in so many different directions that I wasn't able to empathize or connect with any of them apart from the young Seoha and Juwon timeline.
If I were to change something I wouldn't have included her first life. I also think it would've been better if only Aegyeong knew about Jieum's past lives.
I'm not mad that I watched this. I have been wanting to watch more dramas with Shin Hyesun after I saw her in Mr. Queen. I think she is an incredible actress. Plus seeing Cha Chung Hwa with Shin Hyesun again was really cute.
Overall I think this story had a lot of potential, and in the beginning it was great but it wasn't able to maintain that feeling for me.
