First 2 eps have been really fun to watch!! Aruna, Jing Long and You Zhang Jing really brought on the laughs (major props to the editing team for that too, I burst at all the little text quips they added), and Miyavi is really incredibly handsome. I think there are 2 people missing from the cast list though? Zao An doesn't seem to be there unless he goes by a different name, and I can't place who the other missing cast is
Just watched ep 1. It's not a 1:1 recreation, but more like the backstory of how they met and came to be the dynamic…
No no I don't mean that. Just that in the first ep he's gone into a photo for a chunk of the time. Not sure about the rest of the show, but since this is their backstory, I'm pretty sure the heavy emotional scenes will still be done by him. What's good is that I can tell they try to have the other actor mimic his vibe. I mean if you liked the donghua, this live action is probably worth watching since it's their backstory done by the same production studio/writing team.
Stumbled onto this entirely by chance - didn't even know they were making a live action. The donghua was really…
Just watched ep 1. It's not a 1:1 recreation, but more like the backstory of how they met and came to be the dynamic duo we see in the donghua. The aesthetics/colour grading is a bit retro, quite like the art style. I like Jiang Long (Cheng Xiao Shi) but a pity he's not actually on-screen much because well, his conscious is in another body/actor. Good pacing and quite promising so far!

The synopsis reads like a young adult romance novella, and the drama so far follows that spirit by being very tropey. Not a very compelling FL but the show has good aesthetics and is quite calming playing in background thanks to the music and colour grading. For better and for worse, this is a McDonald's vanilla cone of a show
Is it better than season 1? NOBut is it better than most of 2023 and 2024 releases? Absolutely
For me, Characters development and world-building: S2>S1 As a cohesive story: S1 > S2
Can't decide if it's the writing, the editing, or the direction (and maybe they had to cut stuff to pass censorship), but the last third of S2 felt rushed and choppy.
Only 7 eps left to this season but it feels like there's so much about to happen. I'm okay if this season has an open-ended conclusion but please please for the love of dramas not a cliffhanger like in season 1.
Ye Chong is fun side character and I see where Ye Ling'er gets her ebullience from - but with the !previous! actress' portrayal from S1. @ Gina Jin, sniping this role was a bad career move for you. @ the casting director, how dare you let the show and novel's fans down like that.
why was cheng jia lin never present in the scenes but always mentioned 😭 i don't think it would be so hard…
So it was revealed recently that the idea was to have Cheng Jia Lin be a representation of us/the audience/every other normal person fighting the same battle - hence he's often mentioned and referenced but never shown
This drama may be fictional, but totally admire the production team effort to showcase how a traditional imperial…
In a BTS clip the director mentioned they used 800 extras for the examination scenes, just so they can capture the scale and stakes of the examinations

This show:子凭母贵
