Fan wars and nationalisms seem to overpower any sense of equity, neutrality and art. Consequently, I put into perspective the ratings (and reviews). Eventually, I fully trust my own judgement. There's not many actors that make you feel like they're so genuine and serious about their craft that they embody their art. When I watch his movies, I feel that his characters exist. I don't see Mansai Nomura, but the man shown in the story. What emanates from him makes him an eye-catcher, one can only be focused on his performance. It's so real the various "eclectic energies" that comes from within him and also what his gestures exhales. Like an ungraspable feeling of power, naturalness, control, spontaneity, emotions, silence. His renditions are very human and at the same time character-like, picturesque. A master, indeed.
Beware: if you expect a comedy to have a good casual time, this is not the right movie for you. Don't worry: I'm not spoiling but you must know that this movie is much more a drama than a comedy. Don't let the colorful poster and the wacky title mislead you. Otherwise, I liked it. The acting is very touching and the costumes good to look at. Unfortunatly, the scenario fails to convey clear messages, which is very unusual and disappointing for a Japanese movie. But if you're here to feel emotions, and enjoy time travels stuffs, you'll be served.
