This is one of the dramas that I always return to every time I feel bored and have nothing fun to watch.
Some say this is a slow burn love story, but even from their first interaction, it's clear that XW is interested in JXN, even if he doesn’t trust her yet (thanks to ZLH's acting).
The female lead (JXN) carries a rich backstory: In her previous life, she was a cruel, manipulative empress who betrayed everyone and caused the deaths of those who loved her. When the male lead (XW) succeeded, she took her own life. Now, in her second life, she remembers everything and acts selflessly to support the second and third MLs. This history also explains her fear of XW. Her maturity and composed demeanor stem from her past experiences, so don’t expect her to act like a child and to fall in love or trust XW instantly.
Every character, the main, supporting, and villains alike, has their own compelling motivations, which I love. Their intelligence keeps you guessing about who will come out on top in the end.
What truly stands out is that both leads are sharp and consistent with their characters. They don’t sugarcoat their personalities. The female lead remains clever, manipulative, and decisive until the very end, while XW stays crazy and very petty. Two very wrong characters but very right for each other.

If you love ZLH, watch this because you’ll love him more in this drama. But be ready, he’s a major red flag in this. He portrays a crazy, very petty and obsessive character, but you can forgive him because he’s so good in it. Don’t skip anything, and focus because you might miss his micro expressions. Both leads here are morally grey. They are not the good guys here so you might not agree on how they handle certain situations. All of the characters have their own motivations so even the villains are not entirely bad, depending on how you look at it.
Warning: If you can’t take RED flag characters you may not like it, and if you’re into GREEN flags you will like the 2nd and 3rd ML more.
I just started watching this, and the story begins to slow down at episode 15. I’m getting frustrated with the amount of times he feels the need to save her. The earlier episodes showed that she’s a badass with a stronger and richer army, so there's no need for him to rescue her. I also hated the part when she got mad at the ML for not helping them during the ambush and thought the irritating SML had died. I mean, the SML literally betrayed them and caused the deaths of his soldiers, so why would they help him again? Then the ML spends his time trying to regain FML's affection, forgetting the betrayal of Cui's army in the first place.
I’m in episode 17, I do hope this improves. Great acting by both leads though and finally something to show off the talent of sukai. Last drama of his that I loved was AMA.
Still the best ZLH role for me. POJ gets away with anything because of the cinematography which made him even more gorgeous, but character- wise, it’s still the story of kunning palace. This one made me a fan of ZLH.
I love how fierce the FL lead is in battle, but I wish we could see that same strength with the Marquis of Wu’an. It seems like most of his recent victories are thanks to Chang Yu’s skills and her reckless nature. For those reading the novel, is it going to stay this way until the end, just him planning, supporting and obsessing over his wife? Are we going to see some war actions from him as well?
Can someone please tell me the background stories of the Sui Brothers? Why are they both so crazy? Were they abused? And who’s their real enemy? They don’t seem to have a direct grudge with the ML. They are just obsessed with certain women.
why isn’t she getting any lead roles on high budget dramas? she’s always a standout everytime she appears no matter how small her role is. Is it manager or agency factor?

PMY's weight in this appears to be tied to her role. If you watch closely, you'll notice her vomiting after eating and even at the bar, where the bartender comments that she doesn’t eat. She might be struggling with depression and eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia, which could explain her sudden and extreme weight loss.
Apart from Korea's unrealistic beauty standards, being thin is considered the norm for actresses there, actually not just in Korea, also in East and southeast asian countries.
I’m genuinely intrigued by this series. My only issue is the auction house, which probably holds billions of dollars in assets, seems surprisingly unsecured. The male lead freely comes and goes as he pleases, and his way of interrogating already feels like stalking. He keeps accusing the female lead of murder based solely on hunches, without solid evidence. They want him to come across as brilliant with an unconventional approach, but it just comes across as overly dramatic. Still, I hope this series can help me break out of my drama slump. I'm rooting for it! I really love the female lead.
Wang Chu Ran truly is a goddess, absolutely stunning. And Cheng Lei? Now I understand why everyone is so obsessed with him. This series is light and fun, but what really stands out are the performances; both the leads and supporting characters deliver excellent acting. The story drags a bit in the middle and feels rushed at the end, but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to check out more series featuring Cheng Lei and Wang Chu Ran. I’m a new fan now!
I’m surprised that bai lu doesn’t have a movie yet. Are movie actors different from series actors in china? I watched her in Northward, she can definitely make great films.
ughhh they kept on pushing with SML. it’s really weird to be friends with someone for years then to suddenly decide to pursue her once she’s pregnant with someone else. give him anothe love story and progress the love story of the lead couple.
