With every episode, I love her mother more and more. Timeline-wise, it's only been a couple of months but as a viewer, it's felt like years have already passed. I do think they need to get over the "it's our fault we abandoned her" and "I'm uneducated because I wasn't raised by my parents." That argument is moot now..it's beating a dead horse. They didn't abandon her on purpose and they are back now. The fault in their mother-daughter relationship lies with both..so it's unfair to portray it like it's solely the mom's fault. They are both extremely stubborn and don't know how to yield. The mom is too harsh with her words and CSS is the one who refuses to learn. If she's really sick of being bullied for her bad manners and such..she could just learn them. It's quite a simple solution. The bullies will still come after her (because they are vile people and need to get their own lives)..but it'll be one less thing for them to criticize Before it was "all mom does is criticize me..she must not love me" and now it's "mom isn't saying anything...it's true she doesn't love me." Honey, pick one or the other. I honestly don't think CSS would've grown up any differently if she went to the battlefield with her parents and brothers. If anything, I think she would've been more "unruly" since she would also be trained in combat. Other than the issues with her mom, I really do adore CSS as a character though.
I appreciate that she isn't in love with LBY yet. It may be my favorite aspect of the drama. It's more realistic than "we are madly in love so our married life will be rainbows and butterflies." They are learning to adjust themselves and navigate around each other and I'm all for it. He's so intimidating and does everything on his own terms...including the engagement. I get that he didn't want to risk losing his chance again...but giving her a small heads up would have been nice. He needs to learn to be considerate of her thoughts and feelings while she needs to learn to bend a little. Also, I think it also has to do with him always having control and her feeling like she never has any. Which is why I think she loves repurposing and building things so much. Her hobby gives her a sense of purpose and lets her control the outcome of whatever it is she is making. I don't want to be one of those people who say the man should yield...but in this case, I think it would make more sense. Not because he's the man...but because he's the older one with more life experiences while she's still learning.
The aftermath of the banquet scene in episode 25 was perfectly nuanced. I think maybe he thought she would appreciate his help..but I love that her reaction was the opposite. She always has her eyes open and she soaks in every experience and learns from it. I think it opened her eyes more to the imbalance of power and what her mom meant when she said "if you and LBY have conflict, your father and I can't protect you."
Hahaha I cringed so hard when he joins them for their meal. He and his men make her military family look like normal citizens hahaha He's sitting there smiling and her brothers are trembling with fear. You can't say the man didn't put in the effort lol
does this series a lil bit similiar to ashes of love?
At this point, all xianxia dramas use the same outline and tropes. It's similar to Ashes of Love, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, etc. If anything, the trailers of their relationship give me Ye Hua & Bai Qian vibes with the whole self sacrifice-->misunderstood betrayal-->heavenly gallows-->human reincarnation-->return to the god realm format.
IDK why but Supreme Majesty / Emperor is sus as hell.
If we've learned anything from xianxia dramas, it's that heaven/celestial gods are hypocrites, biased, arrogant, and liars. They are seldom ever the good guys lol
From the newest trailer released (I haven't had a chance to watch the episodes yet), their relationship is giving me Ye Hua/Bai Qian vibes. In the trailer, an immortal said to Ying Yuan, "I want you to know what it feels like for you to do everything for her but have her hate you" or something along those lines. Makes me wonder if the drama will follow the outline of TMOPB where Ying Yuan takes all the love punishments for Yandan but because she becomes disillusioned and disappointed by him, she ends up not knowing all his sacrifices until the very end and it becomes too late or something.
Part 1 was slower paced and they've only just gotten engaged...it makes me worry that Part 2 will try to cram the bulk of the story into 29 episodes. Especially since she isn't in love with him yet.
We praise and laugh that the emperor loves/adores LBY so much and essentially is the mascot for LBY+CSS yet his relationship to LBY actually mirrors CSS's mom and Cheng Yang. So why do we resent her for adoring Cheng Yang so much? Perspective? We don't know the princes so we can't see how the emperor's affection towards LBY affects them...but CSS is the MC so we see how her mother's relationship with Cheng Yang hurts her.
Does Cheng Yi not dub himself? His voice sounds more like the voice actor who did Si Feng. It sounds different from the first trailer that was released.
i really agree with u. the better translation is 'u dare to fight me over husband but does not dare to get in…
I agree and if I were her, I wouldn't care about romance either. It's upsetting that they are forcing Lou Yao into a marriage with her...but she can't afford to cater to his or Shao Shang's feelings.
Her priority is her brother and herself..and it seems selfish, but life is no longer a dream of happiness for her; it's survival.
It's survival. The earlier episode where she witnessed her mother?!'s death was brutal. Not a squeak from her…
I believe the woman was her wet nurse, not her mother.
Agreed on the Lou Yao front, which is why I also think Zhao Jun is a better match for him. She comes off as a bully to him, but she also seems like someone who would be able to protect him even if he doesn't protect her. From the small scenes we've gotten of them before, rather than bullying him, she just seemed frustrated with him.
CSS is great..but she also wouldn't have a standing in the Lou family and I think the stress of always being oppressed would get to her as she got older. CSS needs someone who can guild her while letting her spread her wings and Lou Yao ain't it.
What I felt the director wanted to portray in the last few scenes of Ep20: Though love is beautiful, in the face…
One thing I think characters have to learn is that love is not everything. People need to be able to live on for more than love. It's a reason why I respect LBY right now. He didn't woo CSS, not because he didn't want to ..but because understandably, his priorities are elsewhere.
I personally like Zhao Jun..as of right now. I think she did care for Lou Yao (how could she not when they were engaged for 10+ years and they grew up together)..her saying "You dare steal my husband but won't get in a carriage with me" to CSS wasn't malicious (in my opinion), it's just that the girl is filled with nothing but venom right now and all she knows to do is spew it.
Yes, she was the one to leave Lou Yao...but I think it was partially because she also saw how meek he was (especially during the lantern scene in episode 6). If he fought for her, I think she would've showed him more respect. It seems like she chose Prince Xiao over Lou Yao because he was more assertive. Her priority right now is probably protecting her brother and herself from those who would take advantage of them..and though extremely unreasonable...all I see from her is desperation.
She's not romantically interested in LBY though. He's caring, sure..but that doesn't mean she owes him her affection.…
It feels like her eyes are wandering but at the same time..not. When she's around him, there's a pull between them but when they are separated, he doesn't linger on her mind the way she does on him. Even when she had those interactions with him in earlier episodes, she always cordially bid him farewell went towards Lou Yao (as she should since they are together).
It's perfectly fine with me that she doesn't feel anything romantic for him now because those feelings will grow as she does which will probably be better than the puppy love she has with Lou Yao.
I loved today's episodes but imma need the Emperor to wake up and punish evildoers. Stop worrying about peace…
I hate how everyone essentially says "The emperor won't do anything to us..we contributed to the building of the nation decades ago" ...
(In the Xiao clan case) Yeah? Well, last month you slaughtered an entire family because you rebelled and they wouldn't join you..your contributions 25+ years ago doesn't exempt you from punishment and a painful death (â—”_â—”)

CSS is out there literally just trying to live a peaceful life and bi***** won't leave her be
