ohhh, i love your analysis of zhao ling because this is how i see him too.

when i was trying to convince my family to watch this drama with me lol, i told them zhao ling wasn't like other mls because he was patient with those he loved and forgiving towards even those who have wronged him. well, it has been several years since that version of zhao ling, and he is no longer that man.

i find the drastic change to his character to be compelling and necessary. the whole ruthless official hungry for power and revenge persona is highly entertaining, especially when his wrath is directed at those who deserves it.

but ngl, i miss the old him too. it hurts just a bit to see him this way, knowing how he once was when we first met him. the things he had to do to survive the military and gain merits, the parts of him he had to hide or give up in order to protect tingyun and his brothers... this is a character with many inner demons, and i really feel for him. what a complex individual.

both zhao ling and fu tingyun have grown up, and now they they are finally reunited, they will have to get to know each other again. i can't wait to see where they go from here!

i also forgot about their real life age gap while watching this. for me, it's because ding yuxi looks so incredibly young in this drama. that babyface of his makes it seem like he is around the same age as her lol.

the director wants us to walk a mile in the main characters' shoes, so he decides to make us yearn too. it's torture. 🥲

cdramas used to spoil character deaths in their intros and outros too. i'm so glad they don't do that anymore lol.

for some reason, chinese media don't seem to mind spoilers as much as the west. that's why cnovels are always labeled HE, SE, or OE. or why some viewers ask "is this a happy ending?" before starting a new drama. not sure if it's the ctraumas i've endured over the years or if i've just adapted, but i also look for confirmation of a HE first now before starting anything new. 😂

i love his sweet and loving puppy eyes when he's with tingyun, but there's just something about his cold and menacing look in those official red robes and black gloves... chef's kiss. 😌

same. i thought he was an asshole at first, but he has slowly grown on me.

i love that none of these characters are simply black or white. just because they make bad decisions doesn't necessarily mean they're bad people indefinitely. wonderful writing!

i'm honestly so proud of this drama. it suffered from early downvotes, and it was stuck at 7.9 for a while. thankfully, viewers took a chance on it, realized it had substance, and the rating was able to climb to 8.4.

it is probably my favorite drama of 2026 so far. definitely worth the watch!

LOL. this is how i feel. i'm currently 35 minutes into ep17... i started this episode almost 15 hours ago. i've been skimming these comments, and idk why but i just feel very anxious, so i keep taking breaks. 😂

say what you will about commander wang, but that man can deliver a great speech. he made me emotional, and i almost wanted to suit up to fight for him in this fictional war... almost.

because she is manipulative and controlling. strict parenting sometimes lead to rebellious / sneaky kids.

yjx can't take it out on his mother, so he takes it out on everyone else.

which is why we love zhao ling. this is the kind of chaotic good energy we are attracted to lol.
