you’re really picking up what i’m putting down!! you have a great way with words, I guess recently I’ve just been wanting some rawer romance material (to borrow your words that is not as sugary prudish) to push people a bit more out of there comfort zones and be open to different kinds of characters and people and stories. But on the other hand when I first discovered cdramas that was the most refreshing- the female gaze centric escapist fantasy (bc i hadn’t seen any of that in western visual media). I guess I’m just evolving as a watcher but reading this novel definitely played a part in that. Like oh it’s possible for me to not like the ML and him not being perfect but still appreciate their growth and story.

yes i know i did comment a few weeks ago that most cdrama audience will have an aneurysm if this book was ACTUALLY adapted thats why i was very shocked to hear about this drama. I agree the novel is crazy but i wont say it’s much realistic either it’s just a toxic extreme- it was refreshing to me but yes we all have different reasons for what we watch and what we read. i just think it’s kinda weird for the drama to be called an adaptation when it’s more like a “loosely inspired by” the novel. Also, it showcases how cdramas are watered down to the point that some part of innate humanness is lost. yes everything is flowery and it is perfect escapism from the shitty reality we live but the novel was also happy ending it’s just their story has tension and angst and grittyness to it that made the ending even sweeter- but that’s my own journey for how i interact with media

oh yes cotton candy is such an apt word i was excited bc it was the first novel i read that had such a wild and exciting ML but the drama one just kinda feels like every other cdrama ML
I haven’t started the drama yet but from clips it already seems they rose tinted tf out of the ML compared to the novel which i kinda expected but they also seem more flowery and romantic in the drama which is kind of a bummer because the tension and angst in the novel were givinggg but i still want to watch the drama i just need to forget the novel first before enjoying it as a separate thing

to preface this is definitely NOT my first japanese BL, but the extent of explicitness in this one??? never seen it in other japanese BLs before this one and I have a feeling that we have the popularity of heated rivalry to thank for this hahahah
-0.5 for not giving me a bed scene 😭 but the way cha segye says shin seori in his teasing deep breathless voice might make up for it, gah their chemistry was just so peak, what an amazing drama I havent felt this good about a kdrama since CLOY and True Beauty
