Couple episodes in review: Yea.. as predicted pacing became a problem. The plot as a whole. Otherwise it really isn't anything to talk about. It's not bad but def not good either.
I disagree 100%, everything I read sounds so shallow.?
I mean how much depth do you expect from a quick look review? And this was an 8 episode review after all. I'm just pointing out MY thoughts, opinions and observations. If you disagree, then please explain why. I like discussing about topics, even if they think differently, but "everything I read sounds so shallow" doesn't present a wider range or different point of view from which I can think and learn off of xd
First 8 episodes review: 1. Let me just say this; the show so far is super dull. 2. The acting isn't bad though. Leo Wu is kinda hit or miss, but his acting is not bad in this. Lareina has always been a delight to watch, even though she is type-casted quite a lot (pretty sure this was also a type cast). And Karry is the most experienced of the TFBoys, so his acting is okay. 3. The costumes fit into 2 categories: Either they look cheap, or they look really dull. So far barely any visuals interested me. The set and filming locations are all mostly very grey-toned and dulled out for whatever reason. Just think of the visuals as Nirvana in Fire, but it's not misty or coloured undertones. Everything here either looks super grey or super "artificial". 4. Plot is slow and so far uninteresting. I'm pretty sure we haven't even started the actual "meat" of the story yet, so I'll stay and watch for that, but otherwise.. Yea. Kinda plain ngl. 5. Not enough magic. Honestly, in my opinion, when it comes to dramas with magic, you either use it or you don't. Don't just mention or use it once every 3 episodes. 6. Music is forgettable.
Overall: Not sure honestly. Nothing interesting actually happens so far. Like I said before, "Dull" is the best word to describe the series at this stage. I'll personally continue and see if anything good happens, but otherwise, out of the current 2 airing youth historical dramas, I would recommend The Great Ruler over this, even if the acting in TGR is not better than this one, at least it has material to work with and amazing visuals.
First episode review: So far, it's interesting. But one thing that I'm sure will be a problem is pacing. Already in the first episode everything started to jump around a bit.
Yu Er is supposedly dead, but that was part of his plan. He revives and finds out that he and Wu Que are brothers, and are super happy. The nicer aunt of Wu Que gets poisoned by the mean one, who dies, but then the mean one, after seeing her plan failed, committed suicide. Tie XinLan was about to commit suicide, but Su Ying saved her. Both pairs live happily ever after in Jianghhu.
Honestly this is probably one of my guilty pleasure dramas. When I got nothing to watch I like coming back to this, watching the first 10 and last 2 episodes.
It's nothing riveting, but honestly its really fun at the start and I kinda love it simply for its unrealism haha.
Honestly everything with Aaron Yan is a bit hit THEN miss --
Ok can we just talk about the improvement in acting though? The over exaggerating of CZY and the side characters have gotten much better, and HYT finally got some time to shine and also improve. Yes, I know, they still aren't top tier yet (I mean you can easily tell from the attempted crying of CZY), but even still, I feel everyone improved so much and I can't help but smile when I watch the latest episodes when I see our leads.
without Sang Sang it's going downhill. We all miss her ~~ But more scenes with the academy was really refreshing in my opinion. Just kinda sucks the only reason they got more scenes was because Sang Sang was missing.
Although it is kinda "meh" so far, episode 35's ending was executed really well, and all the recent battle scenes were breathtaking.
But I still hate Haotian. Bring our precious noodle making princess back I can't.
It's a guilty pleasure watch.
At least for me, it's absolutely a guilty pleasure watch.
God I hate it but it's so cliche and cute and weirdly enticing.
(Not saying it's bad. Just not my type of drama. It's nice and lighthearted and I'm sure many people will love it <3 )

Its worth giving a try though.
dramaq and maplestage.
Tie XinLan made a vow to die with Wu Que. She thought he had died, but Su Ying saved her on time.
Honestly, the beginning was a bit hard to watch, but I don't regret a thing.
