So good! So so so goooooood!!!

I’ve never liked a c-drama as much as I did with this one. The overall plot itself is simple, but the individual story arcs and the overall development of Dr. Mi and Captain Xing are so well-done! The angst doesn’t come much from the typical silly rivals trying to sabotage (though spoiler, there is one coming near the tail end, but it was again handled well!) but rather from the tension that come with their respective jobs. For me, this is such a breath of fresh air, it’s amazing to see both leads go through trials, both separately and jointly. The writing allows them both to shine as individuals and as a pair. And the supporting characters also lift the story to another level. Basically I was rooting for everyone.

MSC and BJT’s chemistry is electric! I love them both! They have tense moments, adorable moments, heated moments, funny moments, what can they not do?! My favorite moment is Xing Kelei’s birthday surprise to his girl. I was bawling my eyes out every time Mi Ka read a note.

If I had to nitpick, the thing that I least liked would be Wenbo’s hesitation, one step forward-two steps back with Xia. But I still liked their moments, especially with the old couple in the earthquake relief area.

A solid 10/10 for me!

Started because of JJY, stayed because of WRC and BWJ

If you are a fan of SWL, move along because I didn’t care for his character at all. A total Mary Sue but soooo bland. I have major second and third lead syndrome. I’m thoroughly charmed by Lei Zexin and Yu Lexuan! Their individual stories were more fleshed out than both the two main leads.

I didn’t care much for the relationship between the actual ML and FL. Their development was totally lacking, like you were being forced to accept that the FL would just fall for the ML, despite having the other two guys being more supportive and caring to her.
The friendship built between the FL and Lexuan and the FL and Zexin were more interesting: how Lexuan always helped the FL with earning money for her family, and protecting her in his own way from the bullying of the student council by always stepping in at the right time; and how Zexin took the FL under his wing from the moment they met at the forest, to her saving him numerous times in his nightly vigilante escapes, to them having their shixiong-shidi/brotherly bond. The only time I was deeply touched was on their last scene together, when he offered wine sacrifice to her father and his brother, and he told her he will always be her family and JJY had teary eyes, but he still flicked her forehead. SO MUCH CHEMISTRY!!!
On a happy note, it was also fun to watch their actions to protect the FL’s secret after they each learned the truth that she was a girl.

I dont have much love for the FL character also, there were so many times that she made idiotic decisions despite being labeled as “intelligent”. And she was always just glaring at her opponent/agressor when caught in a bind. There was no intelligent plot line for her. I was waiting for a brilliant solve from her for so many instances but nothing happened. She was just giving tiny inspirational speeches that didn’t contribute much. The intelligent and heroic schemes/acts to solve the many issues were passed to the ML to further his Mary Sue-ness. And her family issues were present just at the beginning and towards the very end. The “quest” to secure her family’s future and legacy was non-existent for the most part. Her supposed intelligence was only shown at the first couple of episodes, but after the entrance exam, was never highlighted again!

The comedic value of the principal and the classmate sidekicks were a pleasant surprise. And also Mu Xiao Man being so much more talented and capable than the FL, like WTF? but a pleasantly surprised WTF. :))) She is talented in music, dance, art, she was proactive with the main propaganda and fighting for justice, and she can fight. GO GIRL!

Overall, wouldn’t recommend except for the pleasure of enjoying the charming performances of Wang Rui Chang and Bi Wenjun.

LOVE LOVE LOVE GJ AND ZZH

My first venture with cdrama BL, and I absolutely fell in love with the two mains. I thoroughly enjoyed the growth of their relationship amidst all the plot-heavy shenanigans around them. I also loved the mains’ relationships with the supporting characters, esp. with Ah Xiang, Chen Ling, Ye Bai Yi, Aunt Luo and her girls, and each Window of Heaven ZZS loyalist that appeared.

I cannot praise enough the casting of Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan. Both of them portrayed pain, struggle, and lovely funny moments perfectly. I was LOLing and crying along with them all throughout the series. The last 2 eps had me continuously bawling. Thank God I read the reviews and I learned that there was an Ep 37!

Going in, I was already a fan of ZZH, and now I’m also a Gong Jun fan. Watching ZZH’s performance here gave me so much life! My favorite scenes of his in the past are him being playful, and those were few and far between. BUT here, there were so many scenes of him being subtly (at first) and even overtly (later) playful I couldn’t get enough! And now I have a new favorite for him: when he’s glassy-eyed, emotional, holding back tears, staring into the horizon or to whoever he’s talking to, and he suddenly chuckles... Good lord he kills me! I love ZZH so much!
And GJ’s character is my favorite. Even though I love ZZH, my Slytherin self related more with Wen Ke Xing’s character and GJ’s quirky and flirty portrayal. I loved his public Philosopher Wen side, his Ghost Valley Chief side and of course his Dont Touch My Soulmate/My Family side. His love and protectiveness for Ah Xiang and Ah Xu will forever be in my heart.
