Lol Chu Zhao and the emperor changing and going out of character made me skip and fastforward their scenes in Ep.34... bc it made no sense at all, just complete nonsense! I dropped this earlier (at Ep.22), picked it back up, and regret it. I'm never forcing myself to watch a drama again if I ever feel this way 😭😭😭
Still my favorite drama of this year and it was the first drama I watched in 2025 too! Never gonna forget how much I enjoyed this masterpiece and its relationships and plottwists!
I remember dropping this at Ep.22 and would ONLY see positive comments about it and I'm like, "Why is there like only a few to no negative comments?????" I was confused about that because I don't know how people find this drama really good when the writing and emotional depth is definitely lacking... now I'm coming here and I'm seeing only negative reviews! So actually, after almost a week, I decided to pick it back up bc I do remember some scenes making me enjoy it (so I may watch it for the good, none filler, interesting scenes) but honestly, it might've been a mistake bc AGAIN, I fast-forwarded sooo many scenes since I found them boring and unnecessary!!!! I don't like dropping dramas tho unless it's really really bad and unenjoyable but the writing here is just BAD BAD! There was way too much filler that they could've instead replaced them with NECESSARY scenes that could've moved the plot forward. Like idk what those girls were doing here bc they were jealous of Heyan (one of the biggest fillers!), UNNECESSARY!!!!
I agree Chu Zhao got a lot more screentime than he should've and while I don't REALLY hate him, I do understand why he is an unlikeable character. Maybe cuz I feel bad for what happened to his past and had no one by his side but himself... but I do agree that instead of adding his scenes and unnecessary filler, they should'e added more scenes of her climbing her way up FOCUSING ON REVENGE 😭 😭 😭
Idk if I'm the only one that I feel like they added in too many romance scenes or too many unncessary scenes leading up to their romance... is it just me? They should'e added scenes that were needed, not every one of those random scenes they put that felt a bit too much (leaving us stuck in the same place of the plot). While the romance was good, it lacked EMOTIONAL DEPTH which is needed for us viewers to feel the characters more!

I really loved Kongyun but unfortunately he was barely shown with the friend group and didn't get as much screen time as them which is why I said that sorry 😭 And the way he only officially joined after Tongshuang left? Also, missing my Neo Hou wow! Can't believe the last time I watched him in as a big role was Fangs of Fortune DURING AIRING! I'm not gonna be counting Love in Pavilion cuz he was only shown in the first episode LMAO...
Also, I might try 'Shadow Love' while my subscription is still going... LOTFG is a big disappointment for me... the plot and writing is just lacking so much and it's so messy! And I'm relieved to see many people in the comments section say the same. So let's hope 'Shadow Love' will be a better Cheng Lei drama (if so, thank goodness it is coming after LOTFG)

It wasn't really the best imo... they focused a lot on romance. and I'm like, "they are doing cases but.. they can be lovey-dovey?" ngl, it did feel off to see them in those moments while solving cases at times... but also, cases were not connected, they would show us who the culprit is at times which didn't make it suspenseful for me.
FL is way too perfect. She knows every medical field LEGIT which I'm sure is impossible to master no matter how many years you have been studying. She is also a coroner... she is the only one who can heal those who are sick while no other can???? And she succeeds EVERY SINGLE TIME! It would've been nice to see her fail at some point bc we all face hardship in life (and no one is perfect) but they decided not to do that.
In the beginning of the drama, FL swore to take revenge (which made me excited bc I watched 'The Double' not long before - in June, where FL takes revenge for her family and it was so good) but this drama did not feel like a revenge drama at all. It barely showed her focusing on getting revenge but more just solving cases not related to her revenge at all... it showed her passion for being a coroner rather than her goal of revenge which honestly made me sad and disappointed since I was looking forward to the revenge aspect of it (I really loved the revenge plot in Legend of Zanghai too which didn't show romance much either (which I'm glad about)).
The drama was just case-to-case and not very suspenseful to me... also the side characters did not get to shine in this drama much. They were just there to add some funny moments but even if they helped at times, it was not much like how in TWD, each of the characters shine which is why we call them a squad. Don't trust MDL casting, bc the two other mains alongside the leads (in Coroner's Diary) do not feel like mains to me at all. If I were to change it, TWD should be having the whole friend group (besides Kongyun) as main characters bc they get shown AS MUCH AS THE LEADS while in Coroner's Diary, it was mainly the leads....
Anyways yeah there are many things in Coroner's Diary that I wished they did better but TWD did better in every aspect of it. So if this is off-putting to you, then don't watch it lol! It's gonna disappoint you more if you watch it after TWD so I'm really glad I watched it before TWD bc TWD was ON ANOTHER LEVEL! There were some fun and interesting scenes in CD here and there but most of the time, I didn't feel that intrigued with the drama (the plot just didn't stick out to me at all... I feel like there wasn't much of a plot to begin with tho if I'm being honest). I thought it was getting better somewhere in the middle but then it just felt the same to me not long after it so... well, this is my IMO and everyone is entitled to their own. You could like it. You may not. It depends on the person. If you watch it, then I do hope you enjoy it!
FOF WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME! TOO OBSESSED WITH IT LIKE I'VE NEVER FELT THAT WAY WITH A DRAMA BEFORE! Like after watching it, I will be watching sooooo many edits, rewatching the clips I posted on twt, watching soooo many bts vids on twitter, posting soooo many yichen x yuanzhou (or tian jiarui x neo hou bts clips in which so many got so much attention (telling us that this ship is such an unforgettable one for us that we cannot let go of even months later)... then I rewatched it like in December (like only a month after I finished it)... and a very random thing is the bgm... like I saw someone posting so many unreleased bgms on youtube and tried to help them by finding scenes with the same bgm and add them in a folder to help them make then.... yeah, I've never done this with a drama before. And I have to tell you the OSTs are the best I've ever heard and this is not even even biased for loving the drama so much. the OSTs are actually the BEST I've ever heard in Cdramaland (or just in drama in general)... and the fact that all the main friend supporting cast (the squad) each had their own OST PLUS a group OST too with a dance???????? That makes it even more special! I remember when the group OST came out and I could tell it was their voices (bc I watched MJTY that month it came out, in June 2024) and I was like, "Omg, this is so good! Hearing them sing makes this song even more precious!" Oh, and I even have a tweet about it... Looking back at it makes me feel so much nostalgia to when I was looking forward to it!
Anyways... WHAT A RANT LOL! I don't think a drama can ever beat FoF for me honestly tho I know it has its flaws. It's just a very special drama for me with the bromance (well.... BL chemistry LOL) and precious squad and beautiful, cute, and funny relationships where you can just ship everyone with just anyone!
