A strange but memorable movie.
This movie is lesson on how to portray nostalgia on screen. Whatever your sweet memories are about the past, they do never come with logic. This movie is strange but beautiful. I found myself watching this movie after a slump because any modern movies today have become such a cliche- big budget apocalypse storyline. This movie reminded me, really, what cinema really is, how is it different from any form of media, and what makes it magical to watch. If people come holding logic to watch this movie, then they cannot enjoy this. Absurdity and surrealism is so well done in Japanese movies, unlike European ones, which for one reason I always found forced, except Fellini. This movie really makes me want to watch all the director's filmography. If someone loves Love Letter and Taste of Tea, they will certainly love this too.
