If the main characters wanted to be immortals then I think the series would be an interesting critique on the cost of cultivation for the common people and we could see what the leads would do for a more world friendly cultivation.

but that isn't the case. The ml and fl are some of the few people that are proud that they don't care about cultivating and that being human is the best. We are constantly hearing how humanity would be much better without cultivation, that cultivators suck, etc... It almost feels like the screenwriter has some crusade against cultivation despite agreeing to do a cultivation drama...

that is my problem with this series.
What is the point of watching a cultivation series when the main character only wants to become human and the entire series focus on criticizing cultivation.

It just feels counter productive

in the last eps does the ml loose his cultivation or regain it?
from the previews I am not sure what is happening...

her conversation with him is her explaining why she is stronger after he rewinded time. that she was able to reach the 3rd realm after 3 years of cultivating or something like that so she was a genius but she also regressed her cultivation because her beliefs.

so the guy rewinding time to when she started cultivating meant that she was at the 3rd realm.

the fl reached the 3rd level of cultivation 3 times and regressed 3 times because of her beliefs.

So when the guy rewinded time to his prime he also rewinded time to when the fl was in her prime. So she was a 3rd realm cultivation fighting another 3rd or 4th realm (I think 3rd). So she could beat him.

If you didn't understand this you need to read the subtitles more carefully. Also, if you like a drama where a beguiner cultivator can defeat a 3rd realm cultivator just because that is cool then you have horrible taste.

the people she beat weren't strong cultivation wise. the female sword imortal she fought for ex was only at the top of the 2nd realm while the fl was at the top of the 1st or bottom of the 2nd. The strong guy she defeated was because he rewinded time to a point when she was at the 3rd realm so she was as strong as him.

here she is fighting guys at the 3rd, 4th and maybe 5th realms (didn't memorize it) and she is at the 2nd realm so she is obviously always losing. that makes complete sense. if she was beating these strong people as you want it would be just stupid. it is like you don't care about what makes sense as long as the fl looks cool. that atitude is honestly what is wrong with drama viewers these days...

given that he is a master painter and swordsman I imagine he is going to become a weak mortal and then ascend through the mastery of one of these things.
it is what makes sense. and everybody will be "awwww he is a god!? but he should be a war demon!"

if the news about reduced number of dramas and pay cuts are true then his agency certainly isn't going to find him work because he is going to leave them in a few months.
Besides that, any project probably wants kai to have his agency situation dealt with and therefore he probably will only film when he has some kind of agreement with a new agency.
Given that he films a lot of dramas, has a steady group of fans and his dramas tend to do well in audience numbers I don't think he lacks work offers.

kai also seems to have acquired a lot of haters in mdl. No idea why because I thought the mdl rating was almost meaningless.
But as @whoissilmoy also said, certain dramas in mdl these days are released with a lot of high ratings and then people campaign to keep the rating high no matter what happens in the drama. When a drama has an idol actor it needs to suck a lot for it to have a low rating.

in the last year or 2 mdl has lost a lot of credibility. These days people vote based on the actors and how pretty the drama looks. most people don't care about the plot or how coherent a drama is...

Besides that you see a lot of good older dramas ratings drop continuously while awful new dramas get rating close to 9

I think that is an even bigger reason for kai to either wait or do a small project like 800 or FI that doesn't depend on his agency in order to be a success.
Can you imagine who is going to defend his interests while filming? his billing rights during this period of change? after MR and spring of the blade he should know that darth sidious is going to take advantage of him any way he can...

At most he is going to use xu kai to prop some of his new artists. And I don't even know who is going to advertise and make money of a project filmed now if xu kai joins a new agency on august.
I imagine that legally things aren't that clear...

It probably makes little sense to work on anything big because his agency would just find a way to ruin it...

from what I gathered from the comments the problems of the drama seem related to the distribution and advertising. It wasn't that easy to watch it...

there seems to be too many rumors and speculation for there not to be some truth to it.
Maybe the 30 eps count is related to them cutting a lot of xu kai's time so the story got simplified. In MR they created a lot of fillers for the 2nd ml and nearly erased xu kai from the final arc. here they can have adopted a different strategy...

I don't see how the talks about xu kai not filming several of his scenes can be be false...

so after moonlight reunion xu kai also got screwed in spring of the blade?

so the final plot twist is that the mother of the brothers is actually the son of the chairman that did an operation to become a woman and that is the reason why she adopted 2 kids?

I only saw the first 3 episodes because I am waiting for more eps to air so I might be wrong, but I don't think they ever sold cough syrup.
They just used cough syrup bottles to sell something that they seem to advertise as a stimulant (that is the reason the truck driver used it).
