Zhan Ni in comedic role & together again with Qiu Bai Hao in another family-focused drama
I was in the mood for Zhan Ni drama. I mistook this drama for her other drama but since I enjoyed the first few episodes of this drama, I decided to complete this drama before starting the other drama. I recognised the actor playing ML - oh I had watched them both in Departing for Love. I enjoyed this drama immensely!
What I liked:
1. Acting - It's great to see Zhan Ni in comedic role as she often plays and excels in dramatic roles. I also enjoyed Qiu Bai Hao's performance. His chemistry with Zhan Ni was palpable more so when the sexual tension was high. The supporting cast did well in their roles.
2. Comedy - As Jwells mentioned in her comment, I loved it when Zhan Ni's FL telling ML about their sex life to convince him that she is his wife. The scene where FL met the adult son was hilarious too.
3. Family - Family is the core of this drama - FL was given a second chance at life to prevent bad things happening to her family. There was a point in the second or third act that FL realised the reason for her rebirth - it was about them not her and I thought the scene was poignant.
4. FL characterisation - I really liked her character. Her love for her kids and husband was evident. I also liked that she wasn't intimidated by her overbearing mother-in-law.
5. ML characterisation - I liked him as well. He was utterly devoted to his wife, which is romantic but this overcommitment made him neglect his kids. It's great to see a flawed ML.
6. Styling - Wow, I must say I liked the clothes for Qiu Bai Hao's ML - he was a Zaddy!
7. Supporting characters - A rare vertical dramas where CEO ML assistant is not a supporting character. I liked the son despite his bratty attitude towards his girlfriend. The butler was a good character.
8. Romance - Small arc but I really liked their intimate scenes. Good kisses - his body definitely recognised FL despite his mind's rejection of her.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - She was cunning - she got ML's mother and daughter to side with her. I disliked her obsessive love for ML but overall her arc was good.
2. The daughter - Ungrateful, petulant heiress. I wanted to slap her for being gullible and arrogant.
3. ML's mother - Another person I wanted to slap. I couldn't believe her desperate attempts to get ML to take a new wife. She should respect his decision.
