Brilliantly written revenge story about two sisters with strong performances from the cast
This drama went on my radar when I started fancying Zhao Ting Yi after watching him in Nanny, Don't Flee! I finally got around to watching the drama last weekend and wow, I was very impressed by the quality of this drama. What I liked:
1. FL characterisation - She was tactical, confident and sassy and I loved it! She gave off this siren vibe with her attitude and penchant for red dresses. I also liked seeing the character growth.
2. Writing - Damn, I loved these lines 'Ambition isn't bad but does your competence match your ambition?' and 'I dressed for myself not for a man'! That clapback scene with bored, rich housewives was brilliant. The dialogue about class difference when FL & ML were in the car. Another highlight is the hospital scene when the secret was unveiled to ML.
3. Romance - I liked that FL chased ML with a string of dates that teased their age difference. There were good kisses but no steamy scenes. Well I saw them as "life partners" supporting each other's needs. Mature relationship.
4. ML characterisation - New money but he always remembered his humble beginnings which I liked a lot. He was an astute observer, noticing something amiss with FL but never pushed her to tell him until she was ready. He was also very patient - gosh imagine having to deal with bratty manchild.
5. Acting - Great performances by Deng Ling Shu, Zhao Ting Yi, Jiang Wu Han, Huang Xing Rao and Yu Xiang Ying. I did, however, wish Deng Ling Shu to up the ante during two scenes: the conversation about class difference when they were in the car, and the hospital scene when the secret was out.
6. Revenge arc - FL's revenge plan was well thought out. However for me, it was great to see main character having conflicted feelings after revenge plan was successfully executed. She started to see ML more than just a tool.
7. Family - This is the core theme of the drama from FL and SFL tumultuous relationship to FL's sickly mother and ML's rotten son. I liked that different dynamics were explored in this drama.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - SFL was insecure, manipulative and ungrateful. I couldn't believe she was willing to do such things to her adopted family who treated her well. SML (ML's son) was greedy and moronic. The type of person who thought he could get away with this just because his father was wealthy and influential.

Riveting revenge drama with tight screenplay & spectacular acting all under 90 minutes
I was recommended this drama by a reddit user. Thank gawd I watched this drama because this is a great quality production. I have a weekly column on subreddit, in which I write about my favourite item from vertical dramas. This drama fits well in my posts about my favourite dramas under 90 minutes & my favourite revenge dramas without rebirth trope. What I liked:
1. Revenge arc - The MOST brutal revenge plan ever. Best part is that ML got someone else's hands dirty.
2. Acting - Spectacular acting by Ye Ting & Tian Yu. This is my first time watching Ye Ting's acting. Wow he was believable as cold & calculative husband who had been massively betrayed. It had been awhile since I last watched Tian Yu's dramas and she excelled as antagonist. Someone on youtube said that Tian Yu doesn't have a cunning face to play a villain but I think being a villain / antagonist doesn't require a cunning face. Sometimes villain / antagonist hides in plain sight aka they look like everyday, normal people.
3. ML characterisation - I loved that ML was morally ambiguous. He was an anti-hero. I didn't agree with his course of action but I understand the hurt & humiliation that he was going through.
4. FL characterisation - I pitied FL for awhile when she was pressured by her husband but let's face it, she didn't take any accountability. She rather saved her sorry self than faced the consequences of her affair. She was definitely a villain because of the continuous, unforgivable bad decisions that she made. She deserved the comeuppance and this is one of the rarest antagonists I love to hate.
5. Supporting characters - Clever use of SFL even though her role in the set up was minor because she represents us, the audience. ML told her (indirectly us) about his revenge plans. Now FL's family was Insufferable. They were more concerned about saving face & materialism than the welfare of FL.
6. Editing - Riveting storytelling done in 90 minutes.
What I disliked:
1. Ending - Endings don't need to be neat but this open ending made me want more! What really happened there?
Favourite scene
When FL threatened ML who then responded with a chilling counterattack
Although FL was barely an adult, I enjoyed this older man-younger female romance
I enjoy Zhang Yi Lun's acting so when this drama appeared on my YouTube dashboard, I was intrigued. This is my first drama of Liu Lan Ge. To my surprise, I enjoyed this drama. What I liked:
1. FL characterisation - FL is a young university student that is not annoying, thank gawd! She is sensible for her age and despite being infatuated with ML and pressured by family, she is focused on her studies and career.
2. ML characterisation - ML is smitten with FL once she saved him from being hunted. I like the contrast between tough boss and sweet lover. I like that he is respectful and doesn't coerce FL into being physically intimate with him. It is wonderful to see Zhang Yi Lun playing an edgier character.
3. Romance - Considering FL is 19 at the start of the drama and is 7 years younger than ML, I like the pacing of their love story. There is enough push and pull between them. The zipper scene is a good ignition to their blossoming romance although it does seem random. It's cute that the ears of both leads were red during a scene in which FL was drunk.
4. The ending - I liked the graduation scene. The very last scene was sweet.
5. Styling - Styling for both FL & ML were on point. I loved ML's jacket with embroidered birds. The qipao would have looked prettier without the strings. Oh I found FL's swimsuit unflattering.
What I disliked:
1. The auction - I am tired of auctions with ridiculously high bids.
2. Antagonists - I dislike FL's mother and FL's school rival who is envious of her.

Love, lust and lifetime are three words I'd use to describe this romance drama
I still remember the date I watched this drama - 8 January 2025 - because I felt like it was a perfect dream. I watched this at random when I saw it on my Youtube dashboard. After completing this drama, I have watched 2 more versions (Qiao Jia Le as ML & Wang Nan as ML), this version is my favourite that I watch on repeat. 'Tempting Heart' is my second favourite vertical drama in romance-heavy category. What I liked:
1. Romance - 'libidO' a song by Korean group OnlyOneOf kept popping in my head after completing this drama. There were many hot kisses and intimate scenes so physical touch is definitely their love language. I could feel the implicit trust between FL and ML once FL embraced her role as ML's partner. It's great that FL desired ML too because in many vertical dramas, ML always the one initiating romance. Great chemistry and rapport between Wang Xin and Lei Xiao Mi.
2. FL characterisation - She was strong-willed and cool when faced with adversity. Out of the three versions that I watched, I liked Lei Xiao Mi's portrayal the most because she was good in demonstrating FL's vulnerabilities.
3. ML characterisation - He seemed cold but such a softie and protective when it came to Li Zhi. I liked his calm demeanor. Wang Xin shined in this role. Plus he was hot with the glasses.
4. Supporting characters - There were too many from this drama that I liked: the show producer, the other competing but supportive couple, FL's biological brother and his partner.
5. Variety show - The variety show was a tool to showcase the growth of FL & ML's relationship. Compared to Wang Nan's version, the challenges in this drama were well executed as they were able to create enough tension between FL, ML and FL's ex.
6. Ending - I liked that it paid homage to their past.
What I disliked:
1. Clothes store scene - I know this scene is integral to FL's identity but have seen similar scene in too many vertical dramas.
Favourite scene
The pokky / pepero challenge
Sports meets noona romance
I love Zhou Yu Tong's acting in Begin Again. I had never watched Wu Lei's acting so I watched this cdrama for both of them. What I like:
1) Wu Lei's acting - wow, I was blown away by his commitment to the role. He really looked like a top-tier athlete and his good looks is a bonus.
2) Tennis - I must have overlooked the synopsis because I didn't expect plot to focus on tennis coaching. As tennis fan in 2000s, I enjoyed the tennis scenes immensely. I love watching Wu Lei & Xia Hao Ran playing tennis & their physicality. Great to also see community from coaches to nutritionist.
3) Supporting characters - My favourites are Coach Zhang Yan, Jiao Jiao & Luo Nian.
What dislike:
1) Liang You An's characterisation - her character started off great in the first few episodes when she was at Y Space. Then I didn't like her character when she acted more like a manager than a girlfriend. I dislike when she made decisions for Sang Chuan without discussing with him.
2) Y space involvement - too much interference & I think the later parts were unnecessary because the club was already financially independent.
3) Second leads' romance - I wanted to see more Coach Yan - Luo Nian's romance because of the emotional baggage they have is intriguing.
Favourite scene:
Song San Chuan first match that he won. What a thrill!
Boring first act but story became interesting once common tropes given different twists
I recently discovered Zhang Si Fan and wanted to explore his work. He has acted in a drama with same plot as this drama so I decided to watch this version first. It was alright. What I liked:
1. Acting - I liked Wang Xin Yue's performance. This is the first time I watched Zhuo Hang and his performance was alright.
2. FL characterisation - Her FL was cool, smart & poise. However it was silly that she had way too many skills e.g healer, violin playing, hacker.
3. Romance - I liked it when they started becoming familiar with each other. The teasing and eventually kisses. Good ones.
4. Styling - I loved FL's white dress that she wore to the final banquet.
5. Supporting characters - I liked ML's grandfather & parents. I also liked ML's assistant. I also liked that guy who wanted to become FL's friend at university. He seemed like a nice guy.
6. ML characterisation - I liked that he offered support to FL knowing her family dynamics but never forced her to live with him / his family. He was also inquisitive.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - Song family was manipulative & shameless. I couldn't believe that they abused FL and was even willing to con another family for money.
2. Acting - The chemistry was passable. I found Wang Xin Yue quite stiff during kissing & couple scenes.
3. First act - Offered nothing new especially during the Song family arguements.
4. University - I found scenes involving FL & antagonist going to university confusing because. I kept thinking if FL was a minor because of the school uniform that she wore.

When ML & FL were hot for each other
I ❤️ this republican era revenge tale because of leads' performance & chemistry
I have been a fan of Wang Zi Jia ever since I watched her in a mini drama titled First Choice. So I remember adding this drama to my playlist upon its release. I don't know why I didn't watch it immediately but yesterday I allocated time to watch this after reading comments by my reddit friends. I ❤️ it, more than the modern era version "Tear Night". I want to see more of Xu Yue in ML roles.Trigger warning: Self-harm.
What I liked:
1. Acting - "Zhuo Mu" or its English title "Stupid Admiration" was excellent because of the leads. Wang Zi Jia showcased good amount of pity, mischief & reassurance through her character. Xu Yue blew my mind with his performance - his eyes were so expressive I could sense his love for her. The chemistry between Wang Zi Jia & Xu Yue was sizzling.
2. Romance - Possessive love that was masked with sweet love and ha I could accept it! Both were crazy for each other. Abundance of spicy & tender moments. The kisses, hugs, eye contact gave me the feels.
3. Setup - It felt like a typical republican era mini drama especially with forced love trope at the start. Those shackles at the start of the drama especially. Good production values.
4. FL characterisation - She was betrayed by her loved ones and when given second chance at life, she went ahead with revenge. I liked the punishment she concocted.
5. ML characterisation - He was protective and yearning for her love. Insecure but I found him more tolerable than Yao Guan Yu's ML in Tear Night (he made me distressed).
6. Supporting characters - I really liked ML's righthand man & butler / caretaker. That wedding scene was touching.
7. Duration - This drama was under 2.5 hours. Well-paced with right balance of romance and revenge.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - FL's family and ex-fiance were atrocious. Great that they got retribution.

I liked second couple more & FL was less annoying in this version
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the poster of this drama upon its release. I like 3 out of 4 cast members - Han Jia Hui, Chen Zheng Yang & Duan Mei Yang. I am familiar of the plot as I have seen the Wang Nian Jiang Cheng - He Tian Tian - Xue Zi Qi - Xiang Shuai version. I liked this version too. I'd like to see collab between Han Jia Hui and Duan Mei Yang and between her and Chen Zheng Yang. What I liked:
1. Romance couple #2 - Fiery. Passionate. She was not as aggressive as XZQ's SML but more loving. Hot kisses & intimate scenes.
2. Personalities - I liked that opposite attracts concept was explored & done well.
3. Styling - I really liked the clothes chosen for ML, SFL & SML. SFL looked hot in little black dress & businesswear.
4. Characterisation - All four were done well. FL wasn't too childish & cloying like He Tian Tian's FL.
5. Acting - All 4 gave good performances. There was better chemistry between 4 leads - even between the ladies and the gents.
6. Ending - I was surprised and liked it.
What I disliked:
1. Romance couple #1 - Not sure why the kisses were lacklustre when I know that Chen Zheng Yang & Cheng Zi can kiss. It felt as though director wanted to make FL innocent young girl / lolita vibe.
2. Styling for FL - Her dressing made her look like a high school student.
3. Antagonist - FL's cousin was pathetic. Also disliked brothers' father.
4. Third act - Felt long & draggy.

Sizzling chemistry & good acting in this other version of My Little Lover
It was a Sunday afternoon and I was deciding wbich vertical drama to watch when I came across this title on YouTube. I enjoyed it a lot and good thing this already has MDL page. I am surprised that this drama is another version of My Little Lover, which is one of my favourites. What I liked:
1. FL characterisation - Yes, she transmigrated but I liked that she was self-assured and confident. She stood on equal footing as ML in terms of social status - she was an heiress not a poor, helpless woman.
2. ML characterisation - This drama gave more time to ML's arc. He was smitten by FL from the first sight and I liked his cunning ways to get FL to stay by his side.
3. Romance - It started with a one-night stand that later progressed into boss-employee relationship then lovers. I loved how affectionate and tender they were with each other. In most dramas, FLs tend to be more dependent on ML but here I sensed co-dependence.
4. Acting - It was great to see Li He Yuan in a ML role and he nailed it. Sheng Chen was convincing in her role and together they had sizzling chemistry.
5. Styling - Kudos to styling for choosing those outfits for ML. He was handsome and less stuffy looking. FL's outfits were ok but the short dress she wore to a wedding was too casual.
6. Supporting characters - I really liked FL's brothers and ML's assistant.
7. Writing - I never realised that this is another version of My Little Lover until I discovered this MDL page. I didn't make the connection so kudos to the writer for giving a different twist to my favourite story. I never felt bored while watching this version.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - The guy FL had a crush on & FL's cousin were horrible. So were FL's parents.
Favourite scene
When FL complained about being at work 24 hours
Earnest & heartfelt performance won me over
I gravitate towards Chinese vertical dramas since last year and with iQIYI expanding their catalogue, I discovered this title there. I only watched a handful of K verticals and most of them were meh despite handsome leading men. I must say I enjoyed this drama immensely. What I liked:
1. FL characterisation - OMG I loved that FL is an heiress too so she had equal status to ML in terms of social standing. She was down-to-earth & hardworking. I liked that she worked at another company instead of at family business.
2. ML characterisation - Sweet & nice guy. I liked that he was genuinely concerned about FL.
3. Romance - Their first meeting was a meetcute. I liked that they made a deal and then remained respectful of each other. I also liked the progress of their relationship. Their first intimate scene was hot.
4. Supporting characters - I liked ML's assistant and FL's butler.
5. Acting - Earnest & heartfelt performances. I really liked their chemistry.
6. Plot - Nothing new because I have seen too many C verticals but the plot of this drama was executed well.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonist - Stealing credit isn't cool.
Favourite scene
When they realised their feelings for each other
Transactional relationship with good camaraderie
I was in the mood for Wang Chen Peng's dramas after loving his recent drama with Bai Yan. This drama had been in my playlist since I also enjoy Li Ke Yi's acting. Overall I liked this drama. What I liked:
1. Romance - It started off fake & transactional but I liked how it progressed into real romantic relationship. I liked that there was warmth from the start - FL & ML went into marriage of convenience without animosity.
2. FL's arc - She was daughter of a criminal & carried that stigma all her life. I liked how the arc was told. There was childhood connection between FL & ML.
3. ML's characterisation - I knew he had crush on her when he kept offering money for a task. However I didn't like ML forcing kiss on FL at the start of their relationship.
4. Supporting characters - I liked FL's friend & ML's assistant.
5. Acting - I liked the performance by Wang Chen Peng & Li Ke Yi. Good chemistry.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonist - ML's pursuer who was family friend and overstepped boundary. I also disliked ML's mother for disrespecting ML and FL.
2. Abuse - The abuse faced by FL was too much.
Favourite scene
The opening
Slow burn but good kisses. Felt the pairing was missing spark
I watched this drama because I like both Du Ya Fei & Liu Xi Yu acting. I watched it within 1 or 2 days of its release. I thought this drama was just ok - I felt like Du Ya Fei and Liu Xi Yu pairing was missing spark. What I liked:
1. Romance - Slow burn but full of affection. They were not shy about kissing once married.
2. Acting - I liked the performance by DYF and LXY. I liked his expression during the ending. They had good enough chemistry for their role.
3. ML characterisation - I knew she had a crush on her right fro'm the start. He was protective, nurturing & respectful.
4. FL characterisation - Sweet & nice even though she was young.
5. Ending - It was so sweet.
What I disliked:
1. SML - He was a scumbag for cheating on FL then wanting to get back with FL. Thankfully his character grew up.
2. Mixed signal - I liked FL's adopted brother but his arc felt a little like a potential love rival.
3. Antagonist - Supposedly betrothed ML fiancee was annoying. The mistress was annoying too.
Favourite scene
When ML made an excuse to stay over at FL's childhood home
Boring revenge and love triangle drama. The acting was awful!
I am a big fan of Huang Bo and have seen & enjoyed 2 of Zhao Fei's dramas. I was curious to see how they would fare in a drama together. To my dismay, this drama wasn't good. What I liked:
1. Styling - I really liked the pastel green and lilac jacket and trousers combo worn by Huang Bo. I also liked Li Ren Zhi's outfits.
2. Visuals - Damn, Li Ren Zhi was hot! Such an eye candy.
3. Duration - Drama only lasts for 90 minutes. Thank gawd!
What I disliked:
1. Casting - Zhao Fei was terribly miscast. Her character is a younger sister with big sister being manipulated by Huang Bo's ML. Zhao Fei has mature look and doesn't suit playing a young damsel.
2. Acting - My gosh, terrible acting especially by Zhao Fei. I didn't believe her FL's helplessness. No chemistry between her and Li Ren Zhi. Huang Bo gave a pedestrian performance.
3. FL characterisation - Polarised. She came with a plan but she was still played by the younger brother.
4. Romance - I didn't buy it. How could she fall in love with the younger brother?
5. Writing - Bland. Nothing interesting in this revenge and love triangle drama.

W wasn't great and this one wasn't good. FL passive & uninteresting
Li Meng Ran is one of vertical drama actors that I can instantly recognised but never interested in his dramas. This drama appeared on iQIYI few weeks ago. I was intrigued by the premise so I watched it. It didn't quite meet my expectations. What I liked:
1. Opening - The first few episodes reminded me of Korean drama W. I was compelled to watch the series till completion.
2. ML characterisation - I liked that the story is from ML's perspective. I liked seeing his emotional struggles from hatred to love. I also enjoyed his sneaky ways.
3. Tone - It had a lighthearted feel. The comic book feel also one of the reasons I liked this drama.
4. Ending - I liked it because it matched the state of FL during that time.
What I disliked:
1. FL characterisation - She was passive and bland. Her arc developed too slow. The memory lapse arc was simplified.
2. Romance - There were good kisses but their romance was underdeveloped. I didn't buy the fact that FL really loved ML especially when she was hung up on her boyfriend most of the time.
3. Antagonists - Female antagonist arc was underdeveloped. FL's ex was a typical scumbag with a snobbish mother.

Fiery chemistry in this jiejie romance drama set in the art world
I was browsing drama catalogue and this drama's pister caught my attention. It had been awhile since I last watched Zhao Xi Xi's work. Glad I watched this drama because it was good. What I liked:
1. Romance - Damn spicy intimate scenes. I felt like they were going to combust everytime they made out. This is a jiejie romance with ML devoting himself to FL's cause.
2. FL characterisation - She was desperate, she put her mother’s need first. I liked the fact that she's knowledgeable in art.
3. ML characterisation - Hidden identity out to investigate SML. ML was devoted, talented & sneaky.
4. Acting - Great performances by Zhao Xi Xi and Su You Cai. Damn, the chemistry was fiery.
5. Visuals - Stunning leads + beautiful paintings.
6. Editing - Beautifully shot scenes from the paintings to the intimate scenes.
What I disliked:
1. Antagonist - SML was a jerk for taking advantagr of vulnerable woman. I also disliked SML's sister for her rude beahviour.
