ofcourse adaptation will be compared because it is an adaption. people who can't get their head around it are just morons with a pea in their head.
Also, you are right about this drama being compared to the original chinese version which IMO was wonderful. So, this drama has high shoes to fill... specially the female character
It will be interesting to see how she manages the adolescent age specifically because any of that usual kdrama screechy screamy female lead and that will be a strike out.. Tan managed the role fairly well
The sister went missing in 2012 I think. By 2019 it showed her case was closed and she's presumed dead
either way.. point is knowledge of her being permanently lost and the breakup triggered her problem.. mostly breakup triggered her problem because she was left all alone

AND, ML asked crew to wrap up filming in a day right.. at that time it seemed that it was because he is still in love with FL... but i am wondering if he knows that other anchor is not super reliable or atleast not right for EH
1. EH and ML dated each other for 8 years and broke up like 3 or 4 yrs ago or so (it was mentioned in ep 1... i think it was 3 yrs but someone can confirm)
2. Around the same time, sister went missing? And EH got herself the parking lot job
3. For 3 years, EH was conscious of double shifts that she was doing but somewhere the other personality took over and her brain malfunctioned... by this logic hyeri should have worked at parking lot for a few months or for an year?
4. ML doesn't know about EH's dissociative identity but given he knows about panic disorder so he probably knows about the missing sister. EH doesn't know the reason and family problems of ML
5. EH is extremely beautiful in drama universe wherein men fall for her left, right , center - established in ep 1
6. ML genuinely truly loved and still loves EH. He has always prioritized her and is actually a very nice guy but his family issue is too convoluted to share with EH.
7. He broke up in the past because he realized that live in or love won't be enough for EH. She wants marriage and kids and he is not in a state to offer her that... so as soon as he realized that he might be wasting her time and she should rather move on from him for the life she wants he broke up...
but he never moved on.. strictly been in love with her and her only
8. We have seen their dynamics post breakup since ep 1 .. he can never show he genuinely cares... he always has a snide remark to coverup... when she fell ill, he could take care of her... and you can see a drastic change in how EH behaves... like a happy kid... they were back in their lovely world...
With that call from family he is jolted back to reality that he can never give EH what she wants but he is so madly in love with her that he is ready to grasp any straws in the ocean... in this case her falling ill and him being able to spend time with her... that's why he said "fall sick sometimes"
and she knows she is in love with him as well and that same story will repeat itself of hurt

In terms of character traits..
EH and ML make complete sense. EH and second ML will never gel well.
However, Hyeri is different. She is optimism personified. She is hope, positivity, confidence, motivation, an energy packet ... someone who loves herself and that's what 2SML needs... he has confidence etc etc.. what he doesn't have is someone who can show him the brighter side to situations and people... Hyeri does that..
ML and EH don't need someone who can show them brighter sides. They seek a companion whom they can completely rely on.. they are not people who don't get along with others.. ML is quite popular... with ML and EH it is purely about a specific pain/scar in life, dealing with it and the romantic love that they have and can't move on...
ML isn't toxic by any standards. He is quite sorted, caring, and very mature.

character wise it makes sense for EH to end up with her ex.. they are good for each other as long as they share their pain with the other.. he doesn't know about Hyeri, she doesn't know why he can't get married...
