Loved everything up until the last 4–5 episodes which left me with mixed feelings.
Even though I wasn’t fully on board with the direction they ultimately took for YX, I do think the drama handled the emotional weight behind it beautifully. The way his father’s shadow continued to follow him right to the end was genuinely heartbreaking. Those letters were poignant, and the scene that absolutely destroyed me was him standing before the armour and lifting the sleeve to pat himself in the way he always longed for his father to do 😭
I’m honestly fine with YY’s slightly more idealistic portrayal too. I came into this drama for romance, emotional payoff, and character journeys. If I wanted brutal realism and dense historical politics, I’d simply watch a different genre. But because the entire story was built around YY’s determination to push reforms through and clean corruption from the court... then SHOW us the aftermath properly. Give us the denouement. Let the narrative breathe for five minutes before the credits roll.
And lastly, a little birdie told me the novel actually provides a proper epilogue 😭 What about us?! I wanted to see YX’s mother and sister receive some royal acknowledgement for carrying the weight and loss left behind by the men in their family. I wanted glimpses of healing. Of rebuilding. Of the leads finally getting peace. Maybe even YY with his hair down holding a tiny little troublemaker in his arms 🥹
They tried to throw every possible cameo at this in the hopes oppa stardust could miraculously hide the terrible writing but alas even oppa blinders couldn't distract from the aimless plot and shallow character development. Pitiful waste of some talented veteran actors.
Started strong, I like the chemistry between the leads. But they're draging the lack of communication too much, she increasingly comes across as unrealistically timid when juxtaposed against her bold alternate personality. Today's episodes were draggy and the relationship made no progress. Hoping it picks up quickly in the next episode.
Just me or is anyone else hearing the same background tune used in Healer used here just a few bars short. Healer background tune:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P9b1DEpLuQ
What are the chances that there will be express release of the remaining episodes? Does youku do this? Previosly some cdramas will release the last 6-10 episodes in one drop but I can't recall which platform it was.
Totally agree! I'm completely addicted...came here to see what everyone else is saying because I can't really…
Its a cute no stress watch where you find yourself smilling at the screen half the time. I love seeing him fall for her and the little things that giveaway how protective he is of her.
I think it's implied Best dramas that are from 2023, else the list might as well just be the best dramas you've watched - as the time we watched it has little relevance otherwise.
