I don't understand this desperate attempt from specifically western audiences to separate BL from LGBT media when…
BRAVO! I'm Western but totally agree with you. That said, how do you know the ones arguing haughtily about "genres" are Western? What am I saying...? I'm sure you're right. Senza below is undoubtedly a 21-year-old, female, American college student who thinks she knows it all.
Educate yourself: Many studies have shown that trigger warnings are mostly useless, and can at times actually INCREASE harm. They also have the unintended effect of drawing in vulnerable folks who otherwise might have skipped watching. Google it.
I realize you wanted to be the first to signal your virtue by shrieking "trigger warning!" but you're not helping.
Holy shit! This just keeps getting better and better, more and more intense, and generally awesome. So impressed. Guaranteed to scare off the BL LGs crowd, and that's a good thing!
The leads are both tremendous actors, as are the two playing younger versions of Haoran. All supporting players are excellent.
I'm kind of in shock at how wonderfully gritty, grimy and boundary-pushing this series is...I went in hoping for the best, but thinking it was just another Japanese BL, meaning it could be good, bad, or indifferent. WRONG. In the world of BL, which many say this is not, this is extraordinarily original and brave. My definition of "BL" has never been as restrictive as most people seem to hold to...and I see BL elements in what is happening between the leads. So far, it feels like a BL set in the darker shades of the infinite gray spectrum; damn near black at times. Which means it's only a matter of time before some bright, white light shines through!
Love this. It will be one of very few BLs I have rewatched episodes of while it is still airing. I don't want to miss a thing. And there is a lot going on.
One weakness: A lot of the violence looks fake. They needed a better fight coordinator.
I get what you're saying, I have dropped almost all Japanese BLs that I try to watch in the past and I've never…
Please check out the new Japanese gay drama, "Happy of the End." I am loving it. Totally original and gritty. I'm watching at the link in the spoiler below:

Have you seen "The End of the World With You?" If so, what do you think of it?
Not that you asked, but these are the Japanese BLs that made my Thirty Best BL Dramas list:
HIS: What is Love? My Beautiful Man Old-Fashion Cupcake Eternal Yesterday: Complete Edition More Than Words Life: Love On the Line HIS: I Didn't Think I Would Fall in Love A Man Who Defies the World of BL My Love Mix-Up! Jack O' Frost The End of the World With You
lol I didn't realize that more than a third of my favorite BLs are Japanese! That surprises me...but there it is.

"I have noticed over time that many people who watch BL don't actually like LGBTQ+ shows."
That is a good point, which I don't think I've thought out as clearly as you put it here. I have some strong opinions about why they DON'T like LGBTQ+ shows, but I'll spare you having to hear them for now... :D

Nah, I looked again and you definitely are.
Did you know that the meaning of words evolve over time...? It's true!
