I'm very against conspiracy theories, but when his friends are asking for a change, it indicates that there's…
Korean media has been downplaying the country's suicide problem for over 25 years. MDL is still doing it now. The article above does NOT MENTION LSK'S MODE OF DEATH AT ALL. Rather, it refers to LSK's "case," as though everyone who happens upon this story should already know everything about its background. It is only in the text of this group's statement of demands that his passing is referenced as a suicide.

In a recent MDL article about LSK having been recognized posthumously with a "Special Award" in memoriam by a film critics' association in Austin, TX, USA, the MDL writer says "Lee Sung Kyuk 'passed away' on December 24, 2023." That's it. That's all. No mention of it having been a suicide in either article.

This is primo-typical of Korean media. They tip-toe around the uncomfortable fact that another celebrity they helped harass and demean has killed themselves.

Disgusting.

jesus christ, for the international fans constantly harping and blaming korean culture, read the fucking room.…
It is NOT only a Korean issue. It is an issue for all of us international fans who watch the shows these people make, including LSK, and follow their careers. Yes, this is about due process, and application of laws, but you'll notice he also called for investigations into the conduct of media organizations, including KBS, and the blood on their hands.

What part of these statements do you not understand? Let me know and I'll help you.

"Particular attention should be given to scrutinizing the circumstances and motives behind the exclusive coverage by KBS on November 24..."

Please note the words "motives" and "KBS."

"Taking advantage of the fact that pop culture artists rely on the public's popularity, yellow journalism, including some YouTubers, maliciously leaked unverified information or rushed to make an issue without sufficient coverage or verification procedures. How long should we remain silent about the ills of so-called "cyber wreckers"? Is there truly no solution to this issue?"

Please note his use of the terms "You Tubers" and "cyber wreckers." These would be those trolls you claim this is not about

"Particularly, can we be sure that KBS, which included the deceased's audio of private conversations that were far unrelated to the allegations, reported solely for the public's right to know, risking its reputation as a public broadcaster? We ask all media, including KBS, to promptly delete any content that does not align with the purpose of journalism."

Please note "KBS" (again).

This is anything BUT a legalisms-only, due process-only document/statement. The signatories to this statement want names taken and asses kicked among your precious netizens, the media, and the public too.

Nice try attempting to portray this as a Korea-only issue about which only Koreans have a right to comment, but you're full of it. Korea aggressively markets and distributes its films, dramas and music to countries all around the globe. The income from these product categories totaled over $21 Billion in 2021, and has only grown since then. K-Content is one of Korea's largest export industries in value. Thus we, the international consumers of these Korean products, have every right to express our opinions and ideas on this matter.

Dollars aside, though that seems the only factor that might get through to you, millions of us international fans form deep emotional connections with our Korean favorites, as do all fans everywhere, and I for one am sick of having my heart broken and days darkened by the suicides of my favorite performers. I am not particularly young, so for me this Korean suicide madness has been going on a long time. Below, a short list of the epically-talented stars I loved and lost to Korea's psycho fan/celebrity dynamic:

Choi Jin Sil ("the nation's actress") 2008
Choi Jin Young (actor and younger brother of Choi Jin Sil) 2008
Park Yong Ha (actor/singer) 2010
Kim Jonghyun (SHINee Lead Singer, soloist) 2017
Goo Hara (K-Pop singer) 2019
Cha In Ha (singer/actor "Love With Flaws") 2019
Rapper Iron (Chung Heon-chul) 2021
Moonbin (of super-K-pop group Astro) 2023
Lee Sung Kyuk 2023

Those are just the ones off the top of my head. There are dozens more K-entertainment suicides over the last 25 years not listed here.

I don't know if you're Korean or not, but kiss my ass with your "international fans butt-out" BS. Korea has the highest per-capita rate of suicide in the developed world, TWICE the rate of the U.S. You may not care about that, but lots of us do.

How could it be "too late for him?" It was bestowed as an honor in the aftermath of his death. It's a POSTHUMOUS…
Jacob Nordby's work is a source of great comfort and understanding of myself and how I interact with the world. Through him, I embraced my "weirdness" and learned to see it as the gift it is. I was born weird, by the standards of the "normals," and I'm glad of it.

Nordby continues to help me live as a stranger in a strange land.

Regarding this article and the recent suicide of Lee Sun Kyuk, I've been emotional on this subject long before he left us. Far too many gifted Koreans have been hounded to their death just as he was.

It's good but too late for him.
How could it be "too late for him?" It was bestowed as an honor in the aftermath of his death. It's a POSTHUMOUS award given IN MEMORIAM. You have to be dead to get one of those, and Korea's poisonous performer/fan sub-culture is the reason he was eligible.

Actor Lee Sun Kyun passed away on December 27, 2023."

MDL, one more time: LSK did NOT just "pass away on December 27, 2023." He died by suicide after being harassed and humiliated for two months by Korean investigators and police, slimy netizens online, media institutions like KBS which has zero news/ethical standards, and much of the Korean public.

Why is it so hard to simply tell the complete truth? Yet ANOTHER Korean celebrity suicide, and you're tip-toeing around the facts with euphemisms and evasive language. Do your job.

"Actor Lee Sun Kyun died by suicide on December 27, 2023, after being harassed for two months by Seoul police who leaked details of the investigation to the press, netizens online, media institutions such as KBS, and much of the Korean public. Shortly before his death, he was subjected to a 19 hours-long interrogation by the Seoul Police Department, the third such questioning in two months. Lee Sun Kyun was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in his automobile near a Seoul park."

There. Fixed that for you.

Yes, and "people are scum human nature" is a sad view to go through life with. This means YOU are scum also, you understand I'm sure.

And if something in someone else's sex life "ends up hurting people," what, exactly, are you going to do about it?

Haven't watched it but just saw a clip on Youtube literally came here to comment the same thing and she does it…
Amazing but unsurprising that you're commenting to object to a movie's supposed pro-cheating message when you haven't watched the damn thing yet.

No, FAR fewer people complain about violence than about sex scenes and you know it. Your attempt to lump violence in the same category with sex and nudity is telling. You're a prude.

Please provide a quote where I asserted that people are NOT allowed to discuss things they do or don't like. You won't find one because I never said that.

However, "discussion" includes interaction with people who disagree with you. You can say anything you want, but don't expect you'll never be challenged on your statements.

You're an idiot incapable of coherent reasoning.

"It feels like they are trying to make these situations the norm and to make people think it is OK..."

Please describe in what way "they" are "trying to make" cheating "OK." What about the plot or characters gives you the vibe that this is a pro-cheating film? Does the cheater win prizes for cheating?

Anything that happens in life is fair game for fiction, and presenting such scenarios is not the same as endorsing them. There are a thousand murder mysteries and yakuza flicks out there. Are you arguing that the people who make those are actively promoting murder and other violence as being OK?

Good lord...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get that you're morally superior to the rest of us. Did you know this is a fictional, live-action piece, and that just because people do things in it that don't meet the error-free standard of your own conduct, doesn't mean you have to rush out and commit adultery or "cheat" or whatever. Seriously, do you look to dramas and films for your moral guidance? When you watch a murder mystery or a yakuza flick, so you run out and kill people? And on the pages of those productions, do you post comments about how immoral the characters are for killing other humans.

No, you don't. Because you're obsessed with your own self-righteousness and other people's sex lives.

On Mr. Sahara & Toki-kun Jan 13, 2024
YAAAAAY! The teacher loves the student! PEDOPHILIA! Hooray! :P

Seriously, fun episode. Actually, this story is comically melodramatic at times. When Sahara first walked into the river with his shoes on, and then fell to all fours while telling his tale of woe, I laughed out loud. But the overall story is charming and all the actors are incredibly cute and talented, so I'm not complaining.

Toki is so comically expressive, whether he's happy, sad, or in between, he emotes with all his heart and body. I love him.
Shinji is drop-dead handsome, but Toki is drop-dead beautiful, so I'll call it a tie. Flawless ivory skin or flawless caramel skin...I'll go either way. But Toki makes me laugh a lot so he's my definite bias.

Fun show.

Home run.

And once again, MDL gives a truly exceptional film a low rating. But then I remind myself of MDL's membership demographics and it all makes sense.

This was my third watch of this film, but this time, I read the review provided by member "bmore" two comments below before watching. Having done so made a tremendous difference in what I perceived this time that I had not before. There is so much more here than what the film has to say about the Korean military alone.

Here's the link to the review: http://koreanfilm.org/kfilm05.html#unforgiven

It's a real mind-blower to learn this film was done as a senior thesis at university, and that Yoon Jong Bin, who plays the somewhat dim-witted character Ji-Hoon, is THE DIRECTOR! lol Wow, the guy's amazing. I had zero suspicion during me two earlier watches that this impactful piece was created on an extremely tight budget.

Read the review first. You'll be glad you did. It contains no spoilers.

Highly, highly recommended.
