This shit is ass so far omg, I'm sorry but I've never felt such a visceral level of disagreement with an on-screen…
Why can’t you say that Dilreba isn’t reciprocating his intensity? Why Feiyu? I feel like he’s doing exactly what a 19 year old general would do best; flirty, smiling, and suddenly giving off mysterious vibes. And Reba is doing justice to what a 400 year old sovereign with no senses would be like. You can’t expect her to match his emotional intensity when her character is literally written to be detached, it’s accurate characterization. The contrast between them is intentional; it’s a slow-burn dynamic. If you can’t wait for the romance to build up, you should probably watch some Netflix western series where they make out in the second episode lol.

This drama is terrible. It makes sense at the beginning, but falls apart halfway through. The two main characters…
That’s literally what I was telling them; calling a drama “terrible” and pushing only their picks as the standard is acting like taste is objective. Also interesting how the list got edited to include “masterpieces” like Nirvana in Fire and Joy of Life after my reply; guess even they weren’t that confident in their original list.

I think the Lin'an arc was just right, but agree that the military arc could use some more action and the last…
Yes, it was great, but 3 or more episodes would’ve elevated it to another level.

Feud? Lol. TTEOM? Lol. Moonlight Mystique? LOLL. I genuinely thought you’d mention actual masterpieces if you were talking about “taste.” Most of these went downhill in the second half. If you’re comparing them to POJ, POJ still comes out better. And FYI, I actually like all the dramas you mentioned, but lets be Real

MDL is not what it used to be. There are dramas that deserve more than 9 stars. POJ should be 6/7.
It doesn’t seem like you’ve even been on MDL for long, so I’m not sure what you mean by “how it used to be.” Out of the 7 dramas you’ve watched, you chose to comment on one you’ve already dropped? If you don’t like it, just move on, being this bitter for no reason is just sad.

He did not forget his revenge. He is a very patient and very smart and with the right people around him to stay…
I totally agree, and honestly, I feel the same in some ways. Even I feel a bit disappointed that a few plot lines have been altered and that some episodes feel a bit choppy.

I do enjoy dark romance too, and if they had adapted the novel version more closely, I would’ve liked that as well, especially since I really enjoyed ZLH’s character as Xi Wei in SOKP.
But I think what they’ve done here is intentionally tone down XZ’s darker side and show a softer version of him. Even ZLH’s line delivery feels more earnest and slightly lovestruck, rather than domineering or snarky like Xi Wei.

I was just a bit surprised seeing such harsh reviews about the revenge plot and the low ratings, because overall the casting, acting, cinematography, and production quality have been really good for the most part of the drama.

And I’m sorry if my earlier comment came off as dismissive toward novel readers, that wasn’t my intention at all. I completely understand the attachment to the original story. I just wanted to share that this version can also be appreciated from a slightly different perspective.

Lol almost 95% of the c-dramas after 2022 are of simp variety with pathetic ML´s and feminazi narratives, so…
Didn’t I already mention that people who are watching only the drama don’t know the full revenge arc from the novel? From the very beginning of the drama, the ML was never portrayed as someone driven by blind revenge. He’s been investigating the war, kept saying he wants the truth, and even suspected his uncle from early on.

He never once shows rage or a bloodthirsty need for revenge. Even after suspecting his uncle might have caused his father’s death, he continues to investigate instead of reacting emotionally.
If anything, the only trauma that’s clearly shown is related to his mother’s death; his guilt and emotional vulnerability come from that.

That’s also why FCY matters to him. The way she takes care of him, even something small like noticing he avoids sweets and giving him candy instead, mirrors the emotional comfort he lost. I think that’s very intentional from the screenwriter.

He doesn’t suspect FCY or her father because he already knows something is off, especially with how people are trying to kill her. That alone signals to him that there’s more to the story.

Honestly, it feels like some people weren’t paying attention and were sleeping through it. are now projecting what they expected instead of what was actually shown. Choosing love over revenge isn’t unrealistic or fantasy if it’s the right person.

Anyways, we all know that when it comes to unconditional love, the bar is in hell nowadays.

Legend of the Magnate also suffered from a weak third arc so I'm confused through what lens people are viewing…
Apparently Nirvana in Fire. isn’t that considered a masterpiece? It’s like how Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones fans compare everything to those shows.

Or Fated Hearts, where the ML and FL were literally biting each other in the name of revenge. Or Prisoner of Beauty, where he choked her for touching his possession and made her suffer in the rain just to justify his revenge.

I rated those dramas highly too. But if we start nitpicking every single thing like this, then honestly, we won’t be able to enjoy any C-drama at all. Even POJ im not supporting, its jus some comments makes me😵‍💫🤦‍♀️

One thing that’s really bothering me is people saying he “forgot his revenge” and is just simping for the girl. Wasn’t that part of his character from the beginning? He’s always been drawn to her innocence and honesty. Not everything has to follow the typical revenge arc.

Also, can we stop with the “he should do this, he should do that” takes? We’ve already seen so many dramas where the ML mistreats the FL in the name of revenge for his country, his parents, grandparents.. Why can’t this be a different perspective?

And the whole “novel vs drama” debate needs to chill; the ML in the novel and the drama are clearly written differently.

If you’re saying the editing feels rushed, the plot is uneven, there’s less action, or FCY’s character feels inconsistent, that’s fair-I can understand those criticisms. But losing interest just because he’s not following a dark revenge path feels a bit unfair. We even have the second couple as a parallel, showing how revenge can consume someone and distort their understanding of real love.

Honestly, we’ve all watched way worse C-dramas with messy plots, draggy middle episodes, and predictable endings; we just 2x them and move on. Since this is still airing, the pacing feels more obvious.

At the end of the day, it feels like a lot of people just wanted a dark romance and can’t accept that someone might choose love over revenge. But that’s kind of the point; this drama lives in those grey areas, where even flawed people like Granny kang have their own moments of empathy. Even when we know what they’ve done, we still end up sympathizing with them, that’s how easily love can make you forgive, even those who’ve hurt you. SYQ overlooking what happened to his father when it comes to the FL shows how complicated love can be.

The things we do for love, right?

You all waited more than a year for the series to release, can’t you wait one more week for the rest of the episodes to air officially?

Everyone keeps commenting, reviewing, and spoiling it, and it’s ruining the anticipation for those of us waiting patiently.
I come to the comments to happily discuss today’s episode, but end up disappointed because of all the spoilers.

Did they just make feel pity for SYQ?
They did the same with Granny Kang, it really shows the depth of the direction and the cast’s acting. It felt like watching Demon Slayer, where you end up sympathizing with the demons by the end.

Yeah…I feel like the director wants to create an aesthetic and sensual vibe between Qimin and Qian Qian, perhaps…
Is it coz we all saw the bts like millions of times🥲 that it didn’t hit like the qi min and qian?

Could it be the editing? I feel like they cut out a lot in episodes 29–32. The pacing was good in the beginning, but now it feels a bit rushed. Maybe the director wanted to focus more on their romance buildup than the political plot.
