i did wonder about the source of his ambition and i agree with you....it is mostly likely about protecting the current king's childhood which he can see being ruined by his mother....so even if he becomes king now, he'll likely abdicate in favour of his nephew when he is old enough

she wants to be the only one with the power, since it is not possible directly, then through her son

so true...already watching each episode more than once, without skipping too ;-)

and then the panic dance....hilarious....IU is being loudly brilliant and bws is being super subtly brilliant....wonderful performances...

she might also want "him" because he is, unlike his brother - her husband, strong and as we saw in the third episode, not without ambition....honestly that ambiguously worded, "if i want to be king" shocked me....didn't see that coming....nice one

am loving the way IU is acting her character....very true to the role....she has been fighting for her place since she was young but she is also a young girl...so both parts, the mature girl who knows she will get nothing without a fight who is also ambitious enough to fight for it as well as the young girl who just wants to have fun but doesn't have anyone close enough with whom she feels safe enough to have fun with....so she role-plays the fun part....but if you remember in the epilogue of the first episode, i-an sees her across the bridge when the fireworks go off...she looks so alone and lonely ....am loving the performance of all the actors....visually of course, the production is stunning...

but in my id is gangnam beauty, it was actually because the character had had so much surgery on her face...that's got to limit the extent of mobility of the face esp. compared to a non-surgeried face....i liked the way she played the character in it....one of my favourite dramas....and i agree not every role requires "acting like in a silent film" but some characters need more stillness than expression...think of it like bws playing the role with reticence like prince will rather than the crazy prince charles, destroying the royal identity with his willful recklessness....am just saying...if one needs a more "real" example....

also could be to show how much beyond his control/wishes everything is....like he can't even own his own name....imagine how frustrating such a life would be!!!

i think the "expressionlessness" is due to the nature of the character....he is doing a job he doesn't want to, for people who don't appreciate him but he cannot express any of his real feelings about the situation because he is in the public eye....so while his words are sharp, his appearance has to always be composed and calm otherwise the world will go nuts with conspiracy theores....this is my two-bit :-)

just my feeling, please people don't lose it over this ;-).....but bws really delivered the feeling of holding so much in while having to do a pointless and thankless job SSSSSOOOOO well....just through his eyes.....i feel like lovely runner was so much about his smile, this one is going to be so much about his eyes.....i felt he really delivered on the character and totally made me forget his lovely runner character while i watched the first episode.....well done BWS....IU is of course always great.... :-)

nnnnnnnooooooooo....not the finale already....i could watch these two for 8 more episodes, easily.....
