This is a happy ending not a sad ending. In fact, there 2 endings. So no, the poster is not a spoiler.
Inspired by Gen. Weibei, young Mei Lin brandishing a dengguo branch as an imaginary sword announces that she wishes to join the army and battle like Gen. Weibei. Sadly, Luomei said something similar, but the timing and the chemistry was not right.

Some believe that the "What if," scene at the end of ep. 32 suggests that fate will bring them together, good or bad timeline. Jinghe says as much, "Even if the Qingzhou fire had not happened, fate would eventually bring us together."
Dengguo, the cake, fruit, and the tree appear often in this drama. Mei Lin says that there was a dengguo tree (the subtitle says wood) behind their backyard. ep. 10 37:22 It is called the Red Fruit in Laowozi Village and seeds and soil were saved from outside the village and later planted in a pot by Jinghe but it tasted different. Mei Lin and Jinghe planted the seedling together in Fengcao Pavilion in Qingzhou, where Mei Lin and later the former Emperor Jing died in front the grown tree. There is also a small seedling in a pot in front of the Jinghe when he dies. In the "What if there were no Qingzhou Fire," segment in ep. 32. young Mei Ling is holding a dengguo branch as an imaginary sword when she meets Gen Weibei. Looking at red berries in the close up of the fruit in ep.32, it is a fictional fruit. Googling Dengguo tree comes up blank. The closest is the Chinese Wonder Tree, but although the berries and stems are similar, the fruit clusters are not separate global clusters but are part of a stream of berries. The dengguo cake's shape took inspiration from the fictional dengguo berry cluster.
Skipping ahead to ep. 6. How did Jinghe's Mother, the Empress Dejia die and did she believe her son was a mass murder. The CP says that when new of the massacre reached the Capital, she went to the palace to beg forgiveness. He says that coming from a military family, she was deeply ashamed of giving birth to a mass murder who slaughtered civilians. Yet even on her deathbed she was embroidering a screen to atone for her. It seems that the CP is suggesting thst she died of a broken heart. And that she apparently believed in public that he was behind the fire. But this is the CP's words, who is the real culprit. The embroidered screen was "Instruct the Young." It's from the event where she instructed him not to harm civilians. I guess that was her way of saying that she believed in him and that he kept her words in his heart.
Does anyone know if the leads are still using voice actors or if they have their own voices?
If you type the Chinese title 春花焰 and then click the baike.baidu link and then google translate, you can find the answer plus an episode re-cap. The answer seems that neither have a voice actor listed.
Plans were helped from unexpected sources. Jinghe's window of opportunity to advance the stalled plans to expose the conspiracy of the Qingzhou fire came by waiting for Mei Lin to be killed. How it is done will give a lead to who has something to cover up. The CP,, Defense Minister Zhang and even Yue Qin have their plans. The CP does nothing, because they believe that their plan and cover up was perfect. But he leaves Zhang holding the bag. Forcing Zhang to send the assassin using the food box that Yue Qin had delivering cakes to Mei Lin. This way only one person is involved. No other jailors or cooks need to be bribed. Yue Qin had planned to send another food box the next day with cakes laced with fake death poison. But the assassin's cakes were sprinkled with poison and a spilled drop aroused Mei Lin's suspicion. How long was Jinghe lurking in the shadows waiting for a assassin? How were they not noticed? Mei Lin was saved from execution because Concubine Yan also added her plea for mercy. Before that, Jinghe might not have swayed the Emperor. Some of the dates here don't add up. Yue Qin freed the Qingzhou servants in the year 15 of Zhaoming. Says she was too young at that time. Prince Jing started his campaign against the Xiyan in the year 14 of Zhaoming. The liberation and fire happened the next year. Year 15. She was clearly a young woman at the time of the fire. She knew who he was in the cave and he might have seen her there. Now that plans are in motion after the assassination attempt at the banquet, now is not the time to get drunk. A final thought is that Mei Lin says that revenge for Qingzhou must be done by someone from Qingzhou. Did the writers forget that or just not care.
Episode 3:I Wouldn't Steal My Brother's Precious ThingsBrothers who love each other or brothers who hate each…
I'm thinking that she showed that she wasn't merely a tool of the Shadow Master but that she could change the playbook to best suit the situation. She deserved a better ending. Still haven't started ep. 4. Other dramas and errands to do. Thank you and take care.
Episode 3:I Wouldn't Steal My Brother's Precious ThingsBrothers who love each other or brothers who hate each…
Jinghe at the memorial ep. 3 10:16 says that the Qingzhou civilians beseiged their camp. ie surrounded their camp. I believe that Mei Lin planned from the stone scene to reveal to him that she believed that he was innocent and intended to stab him but not fatally. She already had the information to make that decision, with the two false tokens, Jinghe's order to his bodyguard to sheath his sword in front of the chanting kids as well as all of that eavesdroppings that night at Jing's mansion. Baidu episode recap says that both tokens were fake. Seems to me that the one in the bridal dowry should have been real to be able to compare the two. Will start on ep. 4 now. Or in a bit errands to run for the Mrs.
Episode 3:I Wouldn't Steal My Brother's Precious ThingsBrothers who love each other or brothers who hate each…
He had poisoned Mei Lin with the Momai poison to implicate the defense minister, as I learned watching the rest of the episode. But at that point still watching the episode, I wondered why give her the poison if he and we understood that nothing would deter her. And even after she stabbed him, but deliberately not fatal, he dithered on whether to follow her plan and to save her. My comments are made as if I were viewing it for the first time and what the viewers might think at that time. So when we first meet Yue Qin, he seemed a credible love rival. I'm sure the writers wanted us to think so. But diehard shippers would never give him a second thought, save to give rise to our bile. I never wanted them to get together. Concerning the makeshift weapons used by the enraged Qingzhou rabble, you have a point. Riot control is very tricky and need extensive training and indoctrination for modern armies. Kent State anyone?
Episode 3:I Wouldn't Steal My Brother's Precious ThingsBrothers who love each other or brothers who hate each…
I also have no idea who Prince Jing was going to marry when he came back. When Zigu first hugged Yue Qin, why did they cut to the pond and lotus leaf? When the Princess first meets the Emperor she asks that he have a long reign. He would abdicate only four years later.
Episode 3:I Wouldn't Steal My Brother's Precious ThingsBrothers who love each other or brothers who hate each…
Even now, I have no answer on why the Empress suddenly died when she did. Was it grief that Jinghe was blamed for the fire and the deaths? Was it because of her advice to stay their swords against civilians? I always thought that the CP would have a more direct hand in her death. She strongly backed Prince Jing. I think that the CP became interested in Mei Lin because Jinghe was very interested in her, or rather that he suspects that she must be part of any plan that Jinghe has. He notes that Lianxiu, Jinghe's Mother's old maid now serves Jinghe. You can see him studying her face when he bids her to leave. And he gives a last look at Mei Lin's picture before he leaves. You can also see in their comments about taking care of Mother, moving to a warmer clime and letting each other win that what they say is the opposite of what they feel inside. That Gen Yang was splashed with an accelerant and burst into flames should have raised the cry why are civilians possessing it? Are they the true agents? Arrest them and the others. His comments about the Weibei Army not drawing swords against civilians sound nice, but sheathed swords make excellent clubs and would have deterred the mob, too. Was the Momai poison also to deter Jinghe's feelings about Mei Lin? No backing out at the last second? Introducing Yue Qin, and the Qingzhou Knot. Yue, compared with the cruel Jinghe, the writers would have us believe that he was the romance with her, that really wasn't.
