I mean Mai didn't have a good relationship with his father either. If she had told Santi, Mai would have definitely been tied up and beaten again???? Would you rather that happen instead?
Sure, she was not the most understanding mother (and a lot of her decisions to stop their relationship come from her own forbidden love) but she just did what most mothers would do, trying to solve problems by themselves, tbh. It was not perfect but it was logical.
