No this wasn’t a masterpiece. And it’s not because there were no intimate scenes, but I wasn’t sold on their connection and bond. I felt like the show especially failed to show Ryu’s pov and he felt like a side character especially after he decided to quit hockey. They had a good friendship but it felt extremely platonic. I’m used to watching bromances with better chemistry than this. And I won’t say it’s the actors’ fault, it’s the fault of the director and script writer, they just didn’t allow for any room for romance. It was a nice watch just lacked chemistry and excitement in any way. But props to Taevyeon, he did the phenomenal in this role

It's really not because a key role in business for BUSINESS partners, is Marketing. And the evidence kind of speaks for itself, the fans/consumers are eating it up. Yeah there's deviations (like you for example) but most people want to see that they have some type of romantic dynamic and are happy to see even this "controlling" or "possessive" dynamic.

That is where the problem stems though, they relied too much on the past lives concept to explain everything but it doesn't. Also, the past lives can strengthen characters and dynamics, but it should not explain it all. They should have written more into the main story. Also if it was just Charn's intuition that made him so interested in Jet and Khem in the beginning, they should have stated that. Like in the book Wrinkle in Time, the character Calvin's presence in the story is explained by this inexplicable feeling or compulsion to be at the right place at the right time and I feel they could have leaned into that more with Charn especially since he has that intuition power as well.
And for the personality aspect, I feel it's important to give background to a character's personality so we can better understand their actions. Like with Peem we understand his hesitancy to help Khem since he is a shaman and he feels like his duties lie in protecting the village and not risking his life or theirs b/c of Khem. But then we have characters like Jet, who we have no real understanding of his background or why he is the way that he is. Like why or how did Jet become Peem's disciple and furthermore, with Jet's personality being a bit mischievous, it seems contradictory that his character would choose a line of work set in rules and traditions and rituals and set in one village and not something more free spirited like Kachen, especially seeing as Kachen played a big influence on him when he was younger. I hope this makes sense
This show is a 8/10 for me. It really is a great show but is a very mediocre bl. The development just wasn't there and relied too heavily on some of the worst romance tropes (past life lovers and coincidental interactions when younger). I have to say I preferred the second couple but even their development was weak and other than the fact they were lovers in their last life and couldn't marry, I don't really see them as endgame or rather they need more time and development. And Peem and Khem adopting was unnecessary and once again just didn't seem believable. I mean the actor for Peem could sell it but the actor for Khem could not.
But I will say I wished the show name wasn't named after Khem because he was about the least interesting character in the show. It should have been their ship name or named something else. The show is only as good as their side characters, it could not hold with just those two characters or Khem by himself. But overall, they needed to put more into the characters and why they're the way they are. They didn't have much backstory when it came to personality and identities. The only person who was explained was Peem. I would have loved to see why Charn was so interested in them in the beginning, why he's so ready to die for people he just met, why Jet is a bit mischievous and rebellious and what are his motives and his hesitancy for starting a relationship with Charn. Also why is Khem so sweet and gentle when he's led the life that could have easily turned him into an antisocial loner who is angsty. Like their characters just don't have enough reasonings behind them.
Honestly the You Are Mine couple saved this. It wasn't needed and pmo because of how bad the kiss scenes were. I'm not sure what happened between the leads but they were not kissing each other the same way and the chemistry was subpar.
The angst was great and I understand why it was there, however, the actual sadness felt force and the so did the ending. It failed to actually deliver a compelling love story and characters to actually root for. And Yohan being the protagonist was not executed correctly
