Porsche being drugged means that was rape. Even though the drugs weren't given to him by Kinn, even though it wasn't violent and Porsche kissed back, it's still rape. I reflexively want to apologize. I also want to keep watch, but how can I reconcile that with knowing that was rape. I don't want people - men and women and any gender - watching this and thinking that was ok - ok to happen in their lives, in a relationship. I know they were using it as a plot point to get them together, I know it was unlikely this would have happened so early in the plot had Porshe not been DRUGGED (admittedly be someone else, but it's still rape), but it's a story. **They could have done it after he sobered up. Kinn took care of him and showed him genuine courtesy, care, gentleness, and respect. That would have been a perfect reason/way for them to sleep together consensually. Am I a hypocrite for wanting to keep watching? If you still disagree with me after that (subjectively) beautiful alternative to this scene that still gets us to the same place, please watch this video first before commenting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZwvrxVavnQ (it's great. You should watch it either way)
Trigger warning, and apologies to those who feel pained to read this, but I have to say this, but even if he would have gone willingly, even if he expressed interest and would have loved to had he not been drugged, he still was drugged by her, so it's rape. Everything else was beautiful.
Most awkward episode of all time. Still watched it
They could and probably should have ended it at episode 9. I have never seen anything more awkward - the scenario, actors trying to act the stupid scenario... at least there wasn't a boom mike falling from the sky. Really. I stayed because the characters' stories and actors had brought me in and I wanted to stay with them until the end. There were still little gems hidden in the mix, but it still was painful to watch. You could tell Gim An/Kim Yong Seok had had enough.
I love this show but I have to comment on that race
As a runner I have to do my due diligence and point out a couple things that would’ve disqualified Su Yu if this had been an actual race. Mostly because of Wu Bi. As always. First he stepped out of bounds to try and pass those three blocking him. Understandable. But still clearly out of bounds and clearly disqualification material. Second Wu Bi running next to him is called pacing. This is illegal in any sort of run because it gives the runner a huge advantage. Just believe me. (Watch the BL Mr. Heart if you don’t believe me). Finally, Wu Bi literally gets on the track! No Wu Bi! And then runs through the finish line BEFORE Su Yu, which means Su Yu doesn’t get an accurate time and wouldn’t have actually broken the record. Ok. I’m done. This is one of my favorite shows THIS YEAR. Maybe in a couple years. So I’m saying this out of LOVE.
This depiction of Fatherhood is Beautiful. Needs to be everywhere. +Comfortable Relationship
1. I love the Main couple's dynamic right now. It's COMFORTABLE. You can see their minds are on the same level, more than just intellectually. I don't feel like I've ever seen anything like it before on TV. But that probably has in part to do with the skill of the actress/ors. 2. this is the most incredible depiction of fatherhood. Well, it's incredible that they've depicted it like that. We need to see this in ALL television. ALL media!!! FOREVER!! It's sad that I even need to say this but it makes it so much cooler that we have this (and from china). This is how a manly man is. He loves his child. He plays with his child. He will do anything for his child. PS: I feel lik this was once webtoons. It reminds me a lot of the Remarriage Contract but with a stronger female lead... just better. That webtoons is getting toxic.
The way the portrayed everything in “Africa” was SO bad. Imagine if you were anyone of color watching that... It makes me feel extreme shame for everyone Involved. Ick, it’s like when they had slaves dance around and look marry whenever they wanted to put them up for sale on the auction block. Those are people g-dammit, not the worshiping minions you portrayed them to be! Dancing around a well. They’d likely say that I you and shake hands like other human beings. Wow. Just wow.
They had TESTING for STDs on LIVE TELEVISION (or well, international television)! It was beautiful. It was sexy. It is what every person on this planet who's having sex should see. NO SHAME. Ugh, how could they make getting tested so SEXY. Just having it mentioned would have been a huge leap for humankind. But they made it a key plot point for the episode and it ADDED to the TENSION. To the SExUAL Tesions. And I'M ASEXUAL, and I felt the beautiful, invigorating, sexual waves just coming off the scene UGH! This is sp fantastic. I can't even!
That was the most embarrassing storyline. It felt like it was written by a 12 year old kid. So it really is a testament to these actors that not only they didn't die of embarrassment on the spot, but they were able to act convincingly, especially Tu, but no surprise there. Everything else was so cringy I feel so bad for the actors.
Fu Li Gong asked Zheng Ze Shou to wait for him and Zheng Ze Shou smiled and stopped. It was beautiful. Not just this depiction of consent freely given and happily respected, but that they choose to show that!!! And instead of a sex scene. I’m the non. It was hotter than a sex scène. I’m so happy. This needs to be on TV so the time. Thank you thank you thank you. Consent means so much to me. Especially in bl.
Absolutely blown away by Seong Hyuk’s acting. And the story line is SOOO D*MN good. But in this episode, the storyline was good BECAUSE of Seong Hyuk’s acting.
That really sums it up. This episode had the most beautiful scene out of all Chinese dramas. The moment when the father starts to speak about how it breaks his heart that his sons are not his by blood, my heart starts to break. And when he goes on to his feelings when he sees their blood relatives hit or retraumatize his sons, my tears start to fall. And when he reveals all the sadness his sons tried to hide from him - he sees it all, he truly sees them, I'm bawling. It was the scene I was waiting for all season, and it couldn't have been better. (though I wish men could express these things without needing to be under the influence of alcohol or extreme duress).
Transphobic episode putting an end to an enjoyable drama
I have to stop after this episode. They made the bad guy a man dressed as a woman. It doesn't really have to do with the fact that they made someone cross-dressing the villain, it's how they refer to the person - "man dressed as a woman, disgusting" and other things like that. I know it's not the actor's fault, it's the writers. Still, it's not acceptable. Ruined a drama that I had started looking forward to watching.
What!? Neil has shown no sign of seeing Sea as anything other than a talented band mate. Sea was the one who was obviously in love. I'm blindsided by (spoiler) neil's confession. I don't know if his acting just didn't portray his feelings of love for Sea, or if the plot is poorly written, but UGH! I'm pretty disappointed. Sea saved the day. That last scene with him curled up in front of Neil and just looking at him. it was beautiful. You could see beyond the love Sea feels for Neil, you could see everything that led up to it and how it made Sea the person he is today. You could see his devotion and yearning, But also happiness and delight, sliding in along his disbelief but hesitation. However, throughout, in just those last couple minutes, you can see his CALM that everyone else refers to. He's right where he wants to be even if it terrifies him, and he is not sure he's enough.
They've exchanged less than 10 notes and now Got wants to date Diew? I'd understand if he was asking if Diew wanted to be friends, but I'm completely baffled at how the leap was made to dating. It's been about a week, and their interactions have all been extremely limited, both in duration and in number - Diew helped him for five seconds with his boxes, wrote him a note that told him to be quieter, wrote him a note telling him he took his mail, refused all his "gifts" except one, erases all his drawings, and recommends him a book. The interactions have all been negative except for the book recommendation (and the fire escape which was caused by Got in the first place, so are we to say that Got fell in love with Diew's hand)? What am I missing? How is this supposed to make sense? I understand wanting to be a friend after both enjoying the same book. I also agree you can fall in love and want to date without ever having met each other in person. Additionally, I believe people can connect strongly over a book. SO? They've interacted maybe 6 times and none of their conversations probably contained more than 5 exchanges each (though feel free to count and come back to me if it was over 10). I'm kinda surprised by how mad this has made me. Maybe because it has so much potential in other ways. Such a kind love interest, willing to show humility and learn, a fun opposites attract kind of dynamic, a relationship built on... um... not much, but it hints at an intellectual or emotional connection because they haven't interacted in any other way. I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, ok! If they had spread this out over maybe 3 episodes this might have worked, and I don't really care what the rest of the episodes contain. It asks for such a suspension of belief and rationality.
SPOILERIt could be said that their relationship was entirely platonic, but it could be equally said that Xiao Xuan loved Qu Lan Xin, but only could process it if she forced herself to believe Qu Lan Xin was a boy, and Qu Lan Xin was also in love with Xiao Xuan, and thought Xiao Xuan loved her for who she was, but as we see at the end it's not true, and Xiao Xuan can't live with loving another woman and kills herself. It's also likely that Qu Lan Xin is gender queer in some way. I want to be happy that there was lesbian representation, but we're really past killing our gays. Even in China, though there has been some backsliding. Furthermore, it is likely that the producers were already thinking about how to slide things past the censors, whether or not the producers intended Under the Skin to be more than a bromance or not.Other than that, I like how Shen Yi is coming into his stride and Du Cheng is starting to let him grow on him.
