I've watched up to ep3. It starts so very painful, but is so very good! Ep1 will bring many tears, ep2 probably will too. Episode 3 settles a bit more into the main plot, and is excellent! I haven't felt a wrong beat from anything yet. Acting, production, OST, it's all done well.

I've only watched the first episode. So many tears! The acting from everyone was so good! Both young actresses deserve all the flowers, they are amazing! On to the ep 2!

It's much more interesting to see characters rebuild their life from the ashes than the stale rebirth trope.

They took that aspect out of the story. FL takes on a new identity to hide, but is still the same person.

I'm pleasantly surprised they changed it. Seems like every second drama is a rebirth story lately.

Not yet. I've wasted too much of my time on dramas while they were airing this summer, so I'm waiting for it to end before I give it a chance. Heard nothing but good things so far tho.

I really hope this one is good. I'm desperate for a drama worth finishing. Everything that I've watched since Mo Li hasn't been worth it. The trailers are what made me excited for this, not the summary, so hopefully it's better than described. Fingers crossed!

The drama is still amazing in my eyes. The cinematography alone is worth the watch. Add the the great performances from the actors, and it's peak. Just would have preferred a true happy ending rather than the thing we got.

Royal Betrothal was bad, full stop. WJY and CZY had no chemistry past the first few episodes, I was so disappointed. But The Double is very good and worth a watch! Don't expect romance to be a major part of the story tho. It's about her revenge. My only concern for you is that if WJY doesn't do it for you, this just might not be for you. She's very much the main character.

Because it was filmed long after the fact. Yu Zheng insisted on a happy ending and they had to cannibalize the filmed sad ending to try and make it ambiguous, and then filmed the epilogue while the drama was airing, barely making it in time. I would have hated a purely sad ending when I watched it first, but at least it would have made sense with what was filmed. We're supposed to believe Xiao Heng survives a one-on-hundreds battle? After his trusted men die? Nah. I just pretend the epilogue doesn't exist and live with the sadness.

There's this thing in cdramas that they set up this really good foil for the lead(s) with great character depth and chemistry, only to have them be the first enemy that gets killed off part way through and have another, "bigger", less developed enemy be the "main" foil to end the series. Only they didn't spend the time to make that enemy be a fully fleshed out character, so nobody cares about them. Doesn't help that Huang Jue was the best actor in the cast (no shade to anyone else, he's just that good imo). I did enjoy this in it's entirety, but the best bits were from the Marquis' storyline.

I was going to start this since lots of people seemed to be enjoying it, even if only for mindless entertainment. But it looks like it's fallen off at the end here, if comments are to be believed. Not a single drama I've watched since Mo Li I've bothered to finish. They've all fizzled out at the end. This year has been terrible for good dramas.

I heard good things about this drama after the first 5-10 episodes aired. Would those that are caught up say the quality of story and characters has stayed the same? I want to start watching, but I've been burned too many times this summer to judge anything based only on the first 5-10 episodes.

Ok, so the newest clip released of Wu Jinyan and Wei Zheming is oozing chemistry! This is what I want from a WJY pairing!

The First Jasmine falling to an 8.2 while there are genuinely terrible dramas with much higher ratings on this site is very indicative of the state of cdramas. Is it perfect? No. But it was a refreshing change from the overdone plots and recycled characterization in nearly every idol drama made today.

Well, it looks like I won't bother finishing this drama. Which is sad, because I like both leads. They just did not have the chemistry to keep me engaged in this badly written and directed mess. Now that I'm seeing the reaction to the end, I really can't be bothered.

I don't think the directing or editing are helping them, either. The director's obsession with those face on shots, and some truly baffling edits, have taken me out of the moment every time.

The chemistry is lacking, unfortunately. They had potential, but it's not working. I feel like CZY is trying, but WJY is just not feeling it. And it's not that her character calls for a more restrained approach to romance with the Emperor. There's just no passion behind her delivery. There's flashes from time to time. But romantic moments fall flat. What's worse is that she had amazing chemistry with her MLs in her last two dramas. So I can't help but compare. I wonder if she was simply tired after coming back to set so soon after the baby.

Nearly every drama does this now. I'm so tired. This story didn't need it at all. It does nothing to further the main plot. I feel like every costume drama is either zombies or rebirth and I'm over it.
