returning favours: not really. FL has a strong sense of justice, but given her family history and general philosophy, i don’t see her as being about that ‘going all the way out of your way for someone who isn’t a lifelong friend’ stuff.
FL has already lost her heart to the ML, and while i sort of get the hurry for this to be followed by the rest of her body, i’m also thinking…she’s already deeply involved with a dying man- will physical reciprocation right now reduce the pain of this in any way? even the ML’s reactions to her hesitance show that he knows she’s got a lot to think about before she follows her heart.
when you look at the lives they’ve led before meeting, i don’t think it’s so difficult to understand why the FL struggles to take ML’s gestures for what they truly are (and vice versa.) the ML is super seductive, and a lot of the time his thought process is deliberately unclear. it’s part of who he is, even when he’s being sincere. i read the title as a clue to this too: when has a love like theirs ever brought anything but ruin? so i appreciate that it’ll take time and an almost impossible amount of trust for them to express themselves honestly.
that’s part of what i mean when they say need to learn to speak the same love language. i don’t mean that she needs to speak his, or that he needs to speak hers- what’s interesting to me is that they need to find and share something that’s both of theirs.
our very carefully carefree FL undertakes a near-suicidal mission to rescue the ML…and somehow this isn’t seen as a sign that she’s in love with the guy? ok!
to me this couple is equally matched, and i’m looking forward to seeing them learn to speak the same love language 😎
i must’ve ignored this back in 2019 because i misunderstood the ‘high school story’ element at the time. this granny isn’t into teen-focussed dramas. but i’ve learned to just trust Kim Hye Yoon, and i love Extraordinary You so, so much.
the script has a lot of heart, and the satire re: narrative tropes is gorgeous and has stayed fresh…this has me laughing multiple times per episode. the scenarios are seriously interesting too. especially when they revolve around free will.
just wanted to say i love the part of each episode where there’s a conspiracy-related development and we hear someone whispering ‘daka daka daka daka da…’ ☺️
i have so much respect for the writers and actors here! they did the almost most with a 16 episode format. i’m completely immersed in the pure psychological pressure of the situation these friends and neighbours find themselves in. lots of us have experiences that have taught us to be strong-minded and check for rationality, but even with those experiences factored in, it’s difficult to distance yourself from these characters with thoughts like ‘that could never be me.’
tldr: this is art. compassionate and intelligent at the same time.

as for the poor twisted SML who seems doomed to fall in love with the very same spirit he currently thinks he can break…all i can say about that one is ‘aigoo’…
i’m only on episode 8, and trying not to take any of the interpersonal drama too seriously (these lovelines might have been less interesting if the housemates didn’t exaggerate their personality traits) but i still can’t help finding Hangyeol’s secret and his general behaviour creepy. it feels like a slightly disturbing case of arrested development.
4 episodes in: as others have commented, these visuals are love. the storyline is compelling so far, and i especially love the attention paid to tea! 😍 let me know if you’ve come across any other dramas that show this level of fine tea appreciation…

for me this is just OK. it feels like an acceptable mix of other high quality Xianxia dramas that have already been big hits. so there’s no sense of urgency to see what happens next…i’ll probably come back and settle down with it once all episodes have aired.
on episode 15: i’ve been having an uneven journey with this drama- was electrified by the first 3 episodes, watched the next 3 with detachment, then gradually got drawn all the way back in again. i might have some issues with the casting (so far it seems to me that the actor who plays the main lead is in some way overwhelmed by the weight of his role and is unable to give the actor who plays the female lead what she needs to make their connection really pop. i keep having the feeling that if these two were in a waiting room on their own in 2025 they’d both just be on their phones messaging other people. all of that said, the story is extremely good and effortlessly profound, the characters are complex and i’m impressed by the overall quality of the cast.
TLDR: Blossom is fast becoming a gold standard of television for this viewer…

i found the first twelve episodes or so so suspenseful that i got an express pass and gulped two episodes a day. lately i’m watching daily so as not to waste the express pass 👀 but also in the hopes that momentum will return.
the story still has all the right ingredients to turn out well (unusual scenario, chemistry between the characters, ideas about what it is to be human and so on…)

agree that most shows have a lot of filler. i don’t mind as much with the romcoms because there are usually entertaining situations with a second lead couple/family and friends surrounding the main couple, but with Turquoise Land i feel a bit frustrated because there are centuries of backstory between the Earth Fiends and the Hunters that could make the main thread so much richer, but we’re getting hair washing scenes, inexplicable hesitation, and so on…

wasn’t expecting Lee Chae Min to bring this much charismatic villain energy- i enjoyed that, and hope to see his range expand in future projects!
