I was relieved when the 2ML showed up, just because he seemed like a breath of fresh air. It's just difficult…
Sorry, I'm actually re-writing this comment because my phone sent it before it was finished ๐
You have exactly the same problems with these tropes as I do it seems. I haven't started this drama yet but I'm very leaned to it for the FL actress as she's one of my favorites. I feel bad luck because as much as I wish to watch her somewhere... usually the latest dramas casted with her just don't grip me and that breaks my heart.
However, that aside, what I came here to say is โ and I believe we've already had similar "discussion" before but can't bring myself to recall which drama/comment section it was โ that I'm just so fed up with the childhood friends/dwelling on your first kindergarden love until you're almost 40 tropes.....๐๐ฎโ๐จ Why do they still do it so often... Why not tell a story of two people who, as simply as that, just actually meet and build a connection through shared environment, workplace or experience and learn about each other.... ANYTHING but two people who are in love ever since they were 4 and just keep coming back to each other. I don't feel anything fresh or tempting about it and it always feels like walking in a circle.... I want to learn about the characters through shared story and not through constant forced flashbacks pulling me out of the moment.
And the worst part is, even when you are given seemingly newly introduced characters who just run into each other soon enough you find out that they actually do know each other from their childhood afterall (Healer, Angels last mission, Kill it, or even When The Phone Rings although there it makes sense through a family connection). Why is the need to do this repeatedly so constant? Another dramas like Happiness or Doctor Slump... or pretty much any second drama, is based on this. Is it because it's so difficult to write two characters with a new story that they always make them childhood friends who've been in love with each other all this time?
What bothers me even more is that it's not as realistic as it seems.... (I just remembered Midnight Romance in Hagwon deals with the same issue where the FL's colleague from work who's unmarried and in his late 30's is actually in love with her for the past 10 years.... WHO DOES THAT....Who stops their life for a decade in false hope of one day getting together with someone who's clearly not interested the same way .....). Stop giving me these desperate characters. I'm begging you ๐ช๐ฐ.
That all being said, I don't want to claim that this kind of trope can't be done right or that sometimes it can't be a well told story... But I feel like it's too much and the creators are just lazy to think of something new and original so they always go back to their old tricks and rely on these overused methods cause it's a "safe bet"....? Thank god someone came up with Love Scout where the two leads actually do just meet and get to know each other (or atleast so far it seems to be the case but what do you know...) .
Some people would say "if this storytelling bothers you so much then don't watch it and find another drama" which would of course seem logical. The problem is that too many dramas rely on this storytelling and almost every second drama I pick for myself ends up being in this category... There are other things or features I might like about that story and I just really want to give it a shot, it might change my opinion at the end of the day. But it always ends up the same. So afterall it's not as easy to watch something else when such a huge amount of shows tends to spiral down to this.
Apologies for the extent. I just sometimes happen to be indeed frustrated in these situations. I don't mean to spread negative energy or anything ๐๐
Ok y'all I just finished ep 7 and you know how we were worried we'd get a dead fish kiss or not even a single kiss at all....

I wish we got something spicy, because their chemistry is genuinely one of the best I've seen (and it's normal…
Oh really?! I mean I always watch US shows online and never on TV...but specifically from those (like...any US TV show really) just treat kisses (and more) normally so that's why I'm used to it ๐
I wish we got something spicy, because their chemistry is genuinely one of the best I've seen (and it's normal…
And that is actually something I still don't understand to this day.... Why do they think it's wrong to broadcast french kisses? I'm not saying there should be no boundaries to the content and that we should go full on with s*x scenes (I myself don't need that especially) but it feels wrong to brand a natural kiss as something bad or harmful? To not make two adult/grown up people in their years kiss and express their needs and instead let two characters in their 30s blush in awkwardness when their hands accidentally touch as if they're kids in kindergarden.....๐ That's so unnatural to me. Why not treat the characters as people. In teen dramas or fluffy comedies I can maybe understand but when there's half serious tone as someone mentioned above, I believe it's authentic to also remain in a realistic side of these daily things instead of a caricature. Whe does Korean TV find it unsuited ? ๐ถ

Yes I know ๐ฅฒ I watched first half of that series just in anticipation of something more.... but never got that ๐ ๐ฅฒ (I didn't watch it just for the main leads, don't get me wrong, but the conflicts there overall were just too frustrating and melodramatic for me to keep it up ๐). Other rather normal kisses I can think of are almost always from Netflix kdramas, otherwise nothing much....
I know we're not going to get any steamy scenes but this couple exudes such a raw, sensual energy and the way…
I wish we got something spicy, because their chemistry is genuinely one of the best I've seen (and it's normal to kiss...? I don't see why it's such a taboo), they did such a good job!! However if we even get any I bet it's just going to be an immature dead fish kiss as always ...so frustrating. ๐ฅฒ If you want to watch a kdrama break down walls regarding kissing I recommend recent The Trunk ๐
It's unclear if the role initially offered to JCW is the same one PHS has accepted. Don't sell PHS short - he…
I'm so happy and overwhelmingly excited that he's in this... most of the dramas he played weren't my cup of tea so i'm so grateful to watch him in something like this, my maaan! ๐ญ and he's SUCH a great actor...๐คง
