HK dramas were always playing in the background growing up. They were my only connection to a culture that I supposedly belong to but don't belong to. That is the fate of being Asian American. You are, but you aren't.
Flash forward to 2001, when I discovered Taiwanese dramas during my college days with Meteor Garden. I was lost. Dao Mingsi (played by Jerry Yan) and Shan Cai (played by Big S/Barbie Hsu) brought me to the world of dramas for me, not of my parents. From there, I followed F4 and then it was all the other dramas that each of the actors did and then all the remakes of Meteor Garden (Hana Yori Dango in 2005, Boys over Flowers in 2009). By then, I had already fallen into It Started with a Kiss (ISWAK) and all their adaptations.
Since then, I've watched over 300 days of Asian dramas. I'm a drama addict. I follow artists and writers. I follow adaptations and genres.
