Anyway, go and watch My Name ep 6. Han So Hee is one of the most versatile actresses I've ever seen
She was decent in that. But she does drift - often - into the blank-faced staring thing. And that's never acting. Even in stoic roles you want to see some semblance of emotion in the eyes or through micro expressions.
I feel like running an analytics software on this platform to look at keyword associations used for women who…
Please do run said analytics. In particular, it might be interesting to see if the same amount of screeching of "misogyny" (obviously adapted) accompanies any criticism of male actors 'acting'.
See, I think Naksu will die in part 2. I don't see any other way of them 'forgiving' her for the number of people she's slaughtered. She had her redemption arc in part 1 - living in the body of Mudeok/Buyeon - but that all went to hell when she got her powers back.
Big age gaps (commonly where the man is older than the woman) are actually pretty rare across the industrialised world - whether you are talking Asia, Europe or the Americas the SMAM is only 2-3 years or less. It's only in developing nations where the gaps tender to be bigger. According to the UN the age gap only tends to be 4 years or more in some parts of Africa and the Middle East. But Korea's (3 years) is the same as that in Spain, as an example and Vietnam's (1.3 years) is smaller than most of Europe's.
What? That came out as a rambling mess, guess you've never written an essay.
A succinct version: when people complain about the poor acting of (say) Ahn Jae Hyun or Lee Min Ho absolutely nobody says "you just hate men, you're a misandrist". They might disagree (Lee Min Ho in particular has some very rabid fans), but they accept that other people might think his acting is not so great and that it has nothing to do with his penis.
If You Wish Upon Me, gives me the same comforting vibes as another one of my all-time favorite dramas Just Between…
I love, love, love Rain or Shine. I cried solidly throughout. The depiction of PTSD - and how it manifests differently in different people - is masterful.
Am I the only one who doesn't feel that masterpiece atmosphere from this drama? Can't really put my finger on…
It's not a masterpiece, but it's not bad, either. The acting is decent, the genre is normally my favorite; I like the 'case-solving' format and I like ensemble pieces. It's no Move to Heaven but its definitely worth a watch. I do wish the ML's dialogue consisted of a bit less 'aigoo/eish' or muttering while rubbing the back of his head, though.
You know those scenes you sometimes see in dramas where the older actress is insisting the younger one calls her 'sunbae' and is endlessly deferential and, meanwhile, the younger actress is plotting to shame the older one because she's had her time in the sun?
There are a few red flags I look out for in a kdrama. One is reviewers using the words 'unique' or 'refreshing' (it almost always means the direct opposite). The other is that the lead, particularly the FL, allegedly has no interest in relationships/love. Because you can guarantee that they'll be macking over someone - in stalkerish proportions - in the first episode. In this, too, the FL spent an inordinate amount of time doing a voice that would shame an intelligent 9-year-old whenever a male of the species appeared on the horizon. Ugh, no.
I wonder how they are going to resolve the issue of Naksu's 'soul' being, once again, a mass slaughterer? We saw her character development in s1, how she went from sociopathy to actually caring about other people - and why (she was 'trapped' in a physically weak body which meant that she had to learn other ways of being). But as soon as she gets her powers back and is reminded - by a few bells - of her mission, she goes on a murderous rampage. Or will all be forgiven because Jang Uk wants to hop on?
I'm not a 'shipper'. In my cohort/culture that's barely a thing. Plus this isn't one of those 'choose your own adventure' books for small children. We don't get to decide the story. I would like to think that the story makes logical sense (within the world-building already established) so I don't much care who plays which part, as long as it makes sense. My concerns:
I hope the new actress conveys the FL as having the same overall personality as the current actress - otherwise, the unappetising 'fall in love with the soul' people are clearly talking bollocks; and
- I hope the reshooting/editing of the final scenes didn't introduce any tropes or other bollocks to make the denoument more palatable for the squeakers. The story needs to be clean and true.
