Ikr i love tanwatrin sm! Like sure lert and naran have ncs but LOOK AT TANWATRIN WHEN THEYRE IN THE RAIN AND ALSO…
I feel that people who don't see the depth in Trin and Tanwa's relationship, and call them a boring couple...have failed to see the undertones between them. Then again, it IS more complex compared to LertRan's, which is more straightforward. So it's not surprising that not many people come to appreciate what Trin and Tanwa share.

But I think people who DO see the depth in Trin and Tanwa's relationship are those who really like them, because they can see how beautiful it is and appreciate it.

That's why when I see many raving about LertRan's NC scenes and chemistry while saying Trin and Tanwa's looked boring or have no chemistry, I can't help but think people might feel that way because TT have lesser physical intimacy compared to LertRan at this point, and they think whatever Trin and Tanwa experienced together in the past 4 episodes had "no chemistry" and "no substance", when there's actually FULL of it.

I also find it almost absurd how people see chemistry and potential between Trin and Victor when Trin has absolutely NO romantic feelings for Victor and only has eyes for Tanwa. I'm honestly so confused. Lol. I apologize if you're one of them. πŸ˜† I'm sorry.

Anyway, I feel that it's just gonna be an endless debate about LertRan and TrinTanwa. Lol. If people don't see Trin and Tanwa's chemistry by now, they still won't see it no matter how we explain, just like how we don't feel the same about LertRan πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Nah. It only seems that way for those who like seeing more NC scenes between characters or think that only getting…
Oh, I actually meant their sex scenes felt too explosive to the point where it was almost kinda like "in your face" in Ep4. Hahaha. Like when they meet, they just need to jump on each other right away first. When they were shown naked together again, I was like, "Is that ALL they do together??? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Show me something else!"

But yea, I couldn't pinpoint what was lacking at first, but now that you mentioned it, I'm not sure if it was half-hearted? It did feel a bit like that, but it was like...they were just doing it because their body demanded it, not because their hearts were together. It's like they were just bonding physically and not emotionally. But again, we know that's probably how their relationship is supposed to be, so... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Hahaha

And yea....I skipped their makeout scenes too when I rewatched Ep4 πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

I don't think that getting intimate means there's chemistry. That was my whole point. Because many people are raving over LertRan's NC scenes and claiming they have strong chemistry. So to me, it seemed like people think their intimacy translates to chemistry.

I'm also not denying SonEuro/LertRan's good chemistry, but for me, it definitely doesn't top TT's. In fact, I feel that LertRan's own chemistry is stronger when they're exchanging love letters instead of when they have their NC scenes. Their NC scenes and even just them kissing actually fell a little flat for me in Ep4. Maybe it's just me, idk. Coz now I'm just getting lustful vibes from them instead of love, and it feels a bit two-dimensional. Maybe it's just coz they don't have more running time to add more depth to it. I'm not saying it's bad, but LertRan's chemistry still feels a bit lacking somehow even though it's good.

The reason I think MileApo/TrinTanwa have better chemistry is because theirs feels layered. They give off a different type of chemistry according to different scenes, and not all of them are sexual or romantic. And when it actually comes to their kissing scenes, each kiss gives off a different type of feeling too, and MileApo are able to convey that impeccably. Not to mention, Trin and Tanwa don't even have NC scenes like LertRan's yet.

Maybe what we perceive as chemistry is different, so I'm not seeing what you see in LertRan, and you're not seeing what I see in TrinTanwa.

Yea, it was a bit much in ep4 for me too. But I also get that it's supposed to be that way for LertRan because their relationship was built on suppressed lust. It's just the explosive type compared to Trin and Tanwa's slowburn. Whenever LertRan meet, they're always almost half naked. And whenever Trin and Tanwa meet, they're just smiling and healing each other.

Tbh, I did think LertRan had mad chemistry at the beginning when they were secretly exchanging notes in the library. But in ep4, they kinda lost a bit of that tension between them which made them interesting in Ep3. I think they still have chemistry, definitely. But it doesn't feel as interesting as it was in Ep3 anymore? Idk, maybe it's just me. And especially when there's a sense of betrayal slowly starting to creep in between them, whenever I see them together, I'm just hoping Ran won't end up dead. Lol.

Exactly! Thanks for bringing this up. I fully agree. I hope more people realize this. They're honestly such amazing actors and are soooo good in conveying chemistry with different tones. Not many actors can do that.

But I get why many people are crazy over LertRan. I mean, sex sells. MileApo also had that in KinnPorsche although it wasn't just pure lust and passion but also had strong emotional ties to it. And I think that's why many people liked KP and MileApo.

Maybe we just need to wait till TrinTanwa's NC scenes for viewers to change their mind about TrinTanwa being a boring or no-chemistry couple. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

anyone willing to admit the second couple is eating MileApo up in the chemistry department ?
Nah. It only seems that way for those who like seeing more NC scenes between characters or think that only getting intimate physically translates to love and chemistry.

Mile and Apo are playing characters that carry more emotional baggage, and while Trin and Tanwa may not have been as physically passionate toward each other like LertRan, they are building more emotional intimacy than LertRan. And no hate to LertRan, but those kisses Trin and Tanwa shared at the beach top all of LertRan's kisses.

Yep!! Tanwa and Trin's scenes are my favorite!! It's like hot chocolate with marshmallow on a cold rainy day. It's like a beautiful flower brightening your day on an early morning. I just really, really love how they bring so much happiness to each other, and how genuine they look when they smile at each other 😭🧑🧑

Tanwa may come off as a comic relief, but he's actually the character who has the saddest past. Try to read between the lines when you watch Trin and Tanwa, then you'll see why they're in love.

I saw some people saying that Victor is the one β€œchallenging” Trin and they don't understand Tanwa's purpose…
You summed this up perfectly!!! I honestly don't get how people are saying Victor and Trin make more sense than Tanwa and Trin, saying there's nothing much to Tanwa and Trin's relationship and interactions. I feel that those who think Tanwa and Trin's relationship is shallow or boring have failed to see the undertones.

Victor and Trin do share a common interest, but when I see them, it's just all business and politics. Trin might care for Victor a bit more like a little brother. But the way he looks at Victor just doesn't scream romance. I don't see even a hint of it.

But when Trin looks at Tanwa, even with a confused look, you can feel like he may have a frown on his face, but deep down he likes it. πŸ˜‚ And Trin's smile whenever he's with Tanwa can't be any more obvious. That man's IN LOVE. With Tanwa, you can see that Trin is being comfortable and showing more emotions. But with Victor, Trin's being very proper. You can clearly see that Trin doesn't open up to Victor the way he does around Tanwa.

Tanwa and Trin really have my heart πŸ₯Ή They're like yin and yang, and they bring out the other side of each other. On one hand, I feel for Trin, because anyone would've been pissed if their feelings were being played. But on the other hand, I also feel for Tanwa. I just can't disagree with him, even when he said he wouldn't have stopped his mom, because everyone has the right to follow their heart 😭😭😭 (although that honestly broke me).

When Tanwa opened up to Trin about his mom, that just felt like the answer Trin needed. It wasn't anything like "okay, I give you my answer, we are a couple". Instead, it was more like "Here's my heart and my vulnerable side because I trust you and you mean a lot to me". 😭😭🧑🧑🧑 And when Trin kissed him first, I was sooooo happy!!!! 😭😭😭

From Lert and Ran, you could feel lust and passion. From Trin and Tanwa, you could feel happiness and home. They are each other's comfort space. Seriously, Trin and Tanwa better have a happy ending!!!!!

And speaking of Khailert and Naran, I keep getting this weird feeling....I worry that Lert might choose to betray Ran when push comes to shove. I hope I'm wrong though. I don't want anything happening to Ran. Out of all the characters, the one giving the most ominous vibes is Ran. I really hope he survives.

Aaaand we're now half way through the series. Only 4 episodes left. 😭😭

Hahaha I guess it's coz I'm seeing more people excited about LertRan's chemistry and not many seem as excited about the interactions between Trin and Tanwa. Glad you're loving their slowburn romance too!

Title Shine (Orchestric Ver.) Spoiler
Tanwa helping Trin learn to be happy again just makes me wanna cry T__T my favorite scene from Ep3 has got to be the ending scene with Trin finally loosening up and smiling brightly at Tanwa (a total opposite compared to Trin's attitude earlier in the episode) and Viktor catching all of that in real time!!!! 🀣🀣🀣🀣 It's giving "this is how my parents met" vibes. Hahahaha really loving Trin and Viktor's friendship too. I was really looking forward to that. I really like their debates.

I might be the minority here, but I actually love how Trin and Tanwa's relationship is more slowburn compared to Lert and Ran's explosive suppressed passion and lust. I've really got a soft spot for slowburn romance. Lert and Ran's note exchange was cute, but Tanwa slowly and aggressively but also gently finding ways to get closer to Trin, and noticing how Trin's happy with him... That just tops everything for me. Trin and Tanwa's buildup got me smiling the whole time. I hope they get their happy ending, please 😭😭 The ending scene with them smiling at each other is EVERYTHING. I do wonder what Viktor's gonna think though. He's obviously gonna suspect something because...well, Trin and Tanwa's smiles made it so obvious. πŸ˜‚

Also watched their interview and Mile said each song from the OST represents each episode. That's so special! I wonder which song it'd be for Ep4!

So I am in Chiang Mai right now, just wandering around, and I randomly downloaded Sartre’s Nausea after seeing…
Wow, I got curious about Nausea but felt that it was too heavy and not sure if I'm ready for that. Your comment made me even more intrigued! I might actually read it.

Sigh β€’ Trin is Thai, from a very affluent family, who studied abroad in France during the Cold War and returned…
Wow, you're asking if they've flashed out the aim of the characters and other developments when we're only on ep2? And you're asking how they're going to achieve freedom? Really? Haven't you gotten what the protest was all about? Those are buildups to how these characters plan to achieve freedom. And also, now you DO agree that Shine DOES have a plot?

I'm sorry. I just find it weird how you needed someone to spell everything out for you to finally see what the plot of Shine is about, as well as answers to all the other questions you presented, when you claim to be a film professor, and many of us who aren't professors got them right away after watching two episodes.

Thanks for the questions and I appreciate them. But I'm sorry, I'm no longer interested in this conversation. Hope you have a nice day and perhaps enjoy Shine if you continue to watch Ep3.

Lol nice try with your insults. I don't care much about BOC and this is only the second drama from them I'm watching. If you still think Shine doesn't have a plot, then fine. I respect your opinion even though I still don't agree. Have a nice day.

Sigh β€’ Trin is Thai, from a very affluent family, who studied abroad in France during the Cold War and returned…
I honestly don't know anymore what kind of "plot" or "story" you're looking for. And it's funny you say you're a film professor because my film professor, who also has a PhD, would not have said the things you've said.

And the things you mentioned about what makes a "plot" or "story"? Based on what I was taught, what I've seen from the first two episodes of Shine clearly explained it. Not just the plot itself, but also the paths for each character.

Even from the first episode when Trin and Tanwa were slightly debating about what Neil Armstrong said, that also hinted at the theme of this drama.

With all due respect, perhaps this would be a good chance for you to reassess your definition of a plot and story. Or even better, have your students watch this drama and have a class discussion to see what everyone thinks. That would be fun and interesting.

Edit: I replied to your comment before you edited it, and perhaps you should reread the plot I initially gave you. I didn't even mention the year it was set in. I know that's just a description of the setting. That's why my answer wasβ€”People from different classes fighting for freedom. It's exactly the same as the example you gave meβ€”Three woman robbing a bank.

If you want it exactly in the same pattern as your example:

The story takes place between 1969-1971 as an economist, free-spirited hippie, a closeted journalist and colonel, and a poor student try to pursue freedom because they live in times of oppression, so this is a story of their journey.

I also beg to differ that Shine has bad storytelling. There are many ways to tell a story, and they don't have to always follow the same template. Writers are also artists who are allowed to think out of the box. If every story follows the same pattern, then where's the fun in it? You may write award-winning stories, and people who award you acknowledge that. I acknowledge that too even though I have no idea what you've written. But just because someone else writes a story in an unconventional way, or in a way that's different from yours, it doesn't make it bad storytelling.

A simple google could easily answer your question though:

"The series explores the clash of ideals, love, and the pursuit of freedom during a time of restricted freedoms and growing dissent against the military dictatorship."

It's even hinted in the synopsis here. To put it very, very, very simply, this story is about people from different classes fighting for freedom. Aim: Fight for freedom.
