I saw the preview for the next episodes and the writers having ML save FL over and over and over again is getting old.
I liked the first part, they were not pushing too much. They included the very cliché "ML saves FL" two times, despite her being on the run and the chances of him finding her were low, but alright, I'll allow it.
Now we're doing this again? And to make it more heroic, he has to save her from the ABSOLUTE WORSE right ? They are at two different places with no want to find each other again, you have to put them together again, was making her go through all of that really necessary? Putting her through being kidnapped and having the fright to be raped and humiliated just for ML to save her because "omg he's a hero" with no care to traumatizing her (bc who cares, she's just fictional) is just lazy writing.
Creating crazy and ridiculous opportunities for them to meet just because they did sht with his character by sending him away is lazy writing.
Is the point of the story just him saving her all the time despite the chances of him even being here to save the day super low ?

Having her say "I'd rather die than ask for his help" doesn't change the fact that she is still put in a situation of demoiselle in distress over and over again just for him to save the day. Go away, she sent word to her husband, let him come.

Ah see, I understood why Jang was exposed by his hair in part 1 but I didn't think every slave had their head shaven, especially considering the fact that a lot of the slaves that escaped had their long hair. Thank you for the explanation, it makes total sense!

It's good that the show had enough success to allow a S2. They definitly wrote S1 with two seasons in mind considering all the missing informations and unfinished plot lines, so I'm glad it doesn't get cancelled !
The final reunion was a bit underwhelming though.

Overall probably not but in the romance genre the bar is soo low that it definitly falls in the top tier, I think the female lead didn't give as much emotions than the ML. His acting was beautiful for the way the character was written.

Her and Deok Im in The red Sleeves. It's even more amazing that they were written like that in a historical kdrama. Strong women who do not let men direct their lives.

thanks for the spoiler, glad I dropped it, idk how they brought the revelation but from my memories of him in the first few episodes it makes 0 sense. He looked loving towards his wife and kids and not at all as someone who was in love with his best friend and shouldering a huge secret like that.

Ah welcome to romance kdramas lol, you'll find that the plot is literally always always always the same. One might think that redoing something over and over again gets tiring but people still watch it in SK so the studios keep puting money into this plots. It's safe, it's risk free.
If you watch the red sleeve, this scene you are describing will come to your mind at some point but in a good way if I may say without spoiling too much. This kdramas doesn't turn "being in love" in an insult unlike many kdramas where you're like "aren't you ashamed to be this way for a man?"

I'm not korean myself but from what I have heard from many korean and foreign women living in Korea, men are very misogynistic and actually the total contrary of what you see in Kdramas. Maybe they like stories in which a woman can be vulnerable without it being used against them? I have no idea why these type of kdramas work so well honestly because I don't really enjoyt them. I assume for the same reason romance novel do : it allows you to dream about the perfect man that you know you will never meet in real life ?

In any way, I agree with you, if studios could put money into dramas that are written better, that would be great. I find that thrillers is the genre where you have the most well written kdramas so far (based on what I saw of course).

I tend to stay away from romance kdramas because they are not of my taste so I have little recommandations myself but I really enjoyed "My Liberation Notes", it was mature and very nostalgic in a way, very conforting. "The Red sleeve" was also good by my standards because of how the female lead was written. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact thatshe stayed true to herself and her convictions until the very end, despite the king's pressure and love.
"Mr. Sunshine" is a true gem if you give it time.
I'll add that if you watch My liberation note and enjoy it, you should absolutely watch My Mister by the same writter.

Honestly these are the kind of dramas where you either turn off your brain, which is practically impossible, or don't watch it at all because people never have a problem with how dumb the writing is, which means it never improves. It's always the same thing with romance drama. One might think that they are popular because well written but it's the contrary. There are only a couple really well written romance kdramas out there with smart female lead but that's about it. If shows that are not well written are not for you, girl don't waste your time on this, you'll just end up frustrated.
