You are correct, there isn’t many significant things happening. I was hoping for an emotional payoff for sticking with the drama but my ambitions may be too high. Historical fantasy is uncommon in Korea, so it’s disappointing to see it not executed well.

I’m trying really hard not to drop this drama since I’m so far into the drama lolz. I feel like there’s only enough material for a four to six episode special. The development of the characters aren’t ideal. I’m tired of seeing HCK crying all the time. I don’t think the romance is fleshed out well, it doesn’t feel natural. I don’t see strong chemistry within the cast, maybe it’s due to lack of build up and poor writing. I had high expectations due to the renowned director, high caliber cast, and the story originated from a beloved author. It’s quite a bitter disappointment in my opinion but that’s life :/

I understand that some people are bothered by negative comments but that’s how it is when this forum is made for “viewers” to comment. If you don’t like it, find a site for fans only, idk? Lolz As long as people don’t go personal with their comments, let it be and ignore it. If you enjoy every aspect of the drama, great. But if you don’t, that’s great too Lolz People choose to stick with dramas for a potential list of reasons including don’t like dropping dramas, they’re a fan of an actor, and etc. So comments like telling people to “drop this drama” is unnecessary.

From what I see there are many positive comments so far, but negative comments will exist too. Learn to co-exist, if you can’t, I suggest not camping on this site, idk lolz

Last episode was confusing, I think Hwa In told Lady Jo that she needed to separate/divorce from BaWu because they can’t be together due to their status in life especially after her father gets dethroned… I could be wrong because it got boring and I couldn’t focused but I think that’s what she said. So I suppose being a nun is her way to show her “divorced” life.

Was it only me who laughed and also felt sad at the fact that BaWu called Dae Yeop by his real name but Hwa In called him “young master” multiple of times when he was dying? And that’s why I shipped the main male leads together lolz

Finished episode 20, it was a windy, dragged ending. It didn’t make sense Lady Jo could have a kissing scene but the main leads didn’t, I agree with the comments below that suggested that perhaps one of them is dating and that they requested the writer no kissing scenes. If they wanted this drama to be “pure” to showcase the time period, they wouldn’t include risqué jokes and had a kissing scene with different characters.

I wanted to see the villains die but no.

Even until the very last episodes we see undeserved apologies. Hwa In was apologetic all the way to the very end. I wished the monk did cut her hair lolz I really didn’t see much use of her character, the writer barely utilized her well. They made her a hostage once again in the last episode.

Am I also the only one that laughed at the beginning of episode 19? They were all
struggling to climb over that measly short

On top of romance, this drama was promoted as a slice of life, family drama, we don’t see much of that to be frank.

There’s many loose ends. Hwa In would be easy to be located in the future, they should have all migrated to a lesser known area at the end of the drama after BaWu was threatened before they reunited lolz

Sorry that I missed the line that said they were slaves. I’m sure the story that it is adapted from never mentioned about him being of nobility before he became a slave. Also it’s not possible for him to be a runaway slave if everyone thought he was dead. So his friend conjecture is incorrect.

If this drama is based on a true story, it’s very loosely adapted because BaWu isn’t a slave. Secondly, no one knew how the princess was like back then, so as a fictional writer, they can make her any way they feel, and for me as a viewer, I don’t like their portrayal.

I caught up to EP 18, hand to the forehead. why? We get a pair of shoes? A hug? Sorry but even in Disney movies we see more action than that lolz

BaWu mother is the fakest and slimiest piece of work in the drama, at least the king and DaeYeop father and the court lady Kim is consistent with their antagonist ways but seeing her fawn over princess after being a monster in law is such fakery and Hwa In being generous and obedient to her throughout is too much. Her saintly ways is too cringe. BaWu mother is crossing boundaries with her pushing them to have children so soon. Can you at least act like a real mother and spend time with your son? Don’t you have like around 20 years of catch-up? Also can you be a good mother in law and get to know your daughter in law after treating her poorly for so long? They’re humans not farm animals that needs to reproduce quickly lolz

BaWu and DaeYeop should be endgame lolz

The king and DaeYeop father has so much screen time, they should be the main figures of the drama poster while BaWu, Hwa In, and DaeYeop should be all the way in the back lolz If they don’t both die at the end of this drama, I will be infuriated lolz

The writer and the director needs to improve in their craftsmanship, the way some scenes are stitched and edited is so lopsided and unnatural. The writing is just abysmal. If the writer loves politics so much, they should just do a pure political drama next time around and don’t deceive us with clips of romance and grand adventures.

Also why is BaWu against beautiful women in ep 1? His ex-wife is conventional/ordinary in looks lolz

I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea that a princess is raised more severely to follow Confucian teachings than other women in that society. I read and watch my fair share of history works in different countries including Korean works, and I see princesses and other women from all areas of society who defy so called social norms. Many of them them only provide lip service, they don’t 100 percent devotedly follow such teachings. Also this is a fictional drama, many of the things that happens in this drama is unrealistic, so why should we expect the titular female character to supposedly be “realistic” whatever that means? Lolz Her getting “bossam” is already unrealistic. The writer is just awful and gave the talented actress a dull, boring role that should be an extra or cannon fodder character not as a main character.
