Being jealous of small humans is not that uncommon. We've heard of fathers jealous of their own newborns for what they feel is hogging the mom's attention. It's a little unhealthy, but very common.
And if you come from a place of lack like Tuo does, it makes sense because he lives in fear. But he really needs to get it together and soon.

The father came through as deeply homophobic. Spewing things like 'real men don't ...' and so that's not going to invite confidence in any one, let alone a young man trying to find his way in a difficult world. So, I think he knew his son was gay and hated it and tried to do something about it.
He didn't go home because he didn't feel welcome there.
