Had to learn to like it but then it was great
I really did not like this at first. I thought the FL was obnoxious, annoying, and unlikeable and the ML was more cardboard cut-out than alien. But I pressed on, and I'm really glad I did, because I really enjoyed it a lot a little bit later into the show! The female lead became a much warmer and funnier character in my eyes, and the male lead--though not a terribly expressive character--became more human. You could see the change in him as he fell in love, though not in an overt sort of way, but that made sense for his personality. It was a hilariously funny show, as well as romantic and angsty. There were a lot of questions left unanswered about the alien and his powers, but you don't need those answers to enjoy the show unless your primary goal in watching it is for the sci-fi-ish aspect of it. Also, some things don't quite add up as far as why he doesn't do this or that at certain times with his abilities, but you can come up with your own reasons or just accept that he has his (even if his is just "I didn't think of that," haha). The ending is bittersweet, and I would have much preferred a solid, full-on HAPPY ending, but it was good enough to make it worth the time I invested in it. I laughed, I hurt, I swooned, I enjoyed. It was fun and interesting. Oh, and it had a good villian, too. Irredeemable evil bad guy. Definitely worth the watch! Was this review helpful to you?
A Good Day to be a Reviewer
(That title was supposed to be clever and funny though I think I'm probably the only person who will laugh at it hehe)I just finished watching this one for the second time so obviously it has a high rewatchability rating from me, but that is so because it rates highly in my book in every way--except for the music. The music isn't bad, I just kinda got tired of hearing the same couple of songs over and over again.
They overetended the show, imo, using unnecessary (and needlessly long) recaps on every episode and memory montages in places they weren't really called for--inluding a whole extra 124-minute clip-show episode added on at the end. Plus the Uncles's story was silly and also unnecessary, imo. Other than those things, though, it was great!
Cute, sweet, funny, and heartwarming for the first 3/4ths or so when the Tragic Obstacle to Overcome comes along. After that, it's pretty angsty, but not unwatchably so, and you get a happy ending.
And best of all--Cha Eun Woo knows how to kiss a girl! Wow! XD

Worth Watching
I watched the Thai version of this show first ("Switch On") without realizing it was a remake of this one. I liked it and reviewed it on this site, but of course wanted to see this original version as soon as I learned of its existence so it was my very next watch. And this one was great! The Thai one, though I liked it, was nonsensical, but this one MADE TOTAL SENSE THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH!! Everything is explained! Such sweet, sweet logic! I missed that so much in the Thai version, lol.I've always loved the "comic comes to life" or "video game becomes real" trope and this one did not disappoint! Great storyline, believeable plots, good acting, no horrible misunderstanding, happy ending. They did leave a couple things hanging, though, a little bit. And I thought the romance was a bit more intense and compelling in the Thai version, but that doesn't mean this one wasn't good. Overall it was really good and worth watching. I'll probably watch it again in the future.
I'm rating the music a 5.5 simply because I barely noticed it...so it was neither compelling nor irritating. But the soundtrack has never been terribly important to me when watching a show anyway.

NON-SPOILER REVIEW
Overall, this was an enjoyable watch. Its a bit of a soap opera and gets a bit repetitive and tedious toward the end; they stretched it out further than they needed to. Plus I did not like the very end, but if you ignore the last few minutes of it, it's pretty good. Also, that ending can be interpreted in more than one way, as I have learned from other reviews, which can make it better too. For the most part I found it fun, entertaining, interesting, and in places really cute and/or funny. But don't expect it to make any sense. The technology is hardly explained at all and what little explanation they do give makes no sense at all. (What the hell do radio waves have to do with anything??) And the rules for the game seem to be made up as they go to suit the needs of the storyline as it progresses and are subject to sudden changes without notice or explanation. But if you can suspend logic and just watch it for that which it was primarily made for--a cross-universe romance--you will enjoy it.Was this review helpful to you?
I reallly enjoyed it a lot, for the most part
I've read a lot of comments from people who did NOT like it, and I agree on some of the things they say, but most of the things they complain about simply don't bother me. This is a formulaic ROMANCE DRAMA, not a deep character study or social commentary or advocacy film or sci-fi thriller. It's true that the paralyzation didn't get much attention (or the reversal thereof) and the characters aren't super deep and some things just exist to serve the plot without a lot of backstory or examination (or explanation, such as in the case of the time travel). But I did not watch it for any of those things. I watched it for the do-or-die ROMANCE, and it delivers that! The show is ALL about the love between two people, and one character's willingness to do whatever it takes, no matter the cost to herself, to save her beloved. And that is exactly what I wanted! It did stretch out the achy-breaky angst too much, and the show cut have been cut down into fewer episodes, but even as is, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will most likely watch it again someday. It has really sweet and funny and cute moments, too; it's not all heartbreak. (And there are no stupid misunderstandings that needlessly go on forever!) (Although it does use the "I have to hurt you to save you" trope as well as the "I have to hurt MYSELF to save you" trope--as I said, it's formulaic. But generally speaking, for myself, I LIKE the formula!) And it has a happy ending! The last episode, I held my breath the whole time waiting for disaster to strike again, but it didn't happen, and I got more epilogue from it than I think I've ever gotten from any other Asian drama, and I really appreciated that.
So, if you are like me and you just want an angsty, cute-funny, obsessivish romance story, you should enjoy this one. Just don't expect more than that from it. It's not War and Peace. (Or should I reference Gone With the Wind instead, as a deeper version of a love story?) You get the idea. :)
