i think it's good production value, sound is good, costumes are good, acting is really good. But I am freaking drowning in this plot, and imo they giving too much face time to bad characters and the ML/FL dynamic is weird. idk what i think of it yet.
because the plot deserves a rewatch. but i kinda don't realistically know if i will want to do that.
im sticking with it to the end for sure, and i do hold out hope that it gets really really good in the last quarter stretch like SOKP did. but as of right now i'm just scratchin my head and don't know what to make of it.
They killed off that dude's princess, that was a huge huge bummer and made me lose some of the steam i had for following along.

if the Bad Guy is working for the Empress why does she act like he's a thorn in her side and always acting dissapproving of him
if the Bad Chick is a bad guy, why did she just *give* the edict to FL just because she asked nicely? who was that other guy they kept flashbacking to in prison who gave her the edict, and i don't understand ANYTHING about that side-backstory at all?
why did that one guy climb allllllll the way up that cliff and then lose his shit when he got up there and wont tell FL anything and starts acting weird when she asks how is the school
is the empress really working against the interests of the emperor because it seems like they have a good relationship and yet empress is supposed to be a bad guy? i dont' understand? and if she is a bad guy, then why did she let ML investigate all the things.
Whats with the kid with the brother who works for the Other Prince who dissappeared after the fire who saved the chick who assasinated that chick and framed FL for it?

because the entire back half of the drama, is like watching a totally different drama. A more boring and crappy and dull drama. i don't know why they had to switch it all up when it was clearly so gorgeous and spicy and fun and delicious in the first half. just don't mess with a good thing, and... well, they messed with it really hard and obvs that didn't land well with a percentage of the viewers who knocked off points for it.

the only thing this show might do wrong there, is pretend on the surface that it's not as kinky as it actually is, and kind of shock or gross people out who didn't know what they really signed up for with this.

are you sure, did you read the novel? im curious because Story of Kunning Palace had very little romance until the last several eps but those last several eps were HOTTT, so it counts as a slow burn. Wonder if anyone who read the novel could weigh in on this?

For one drama i actually went deeper into the stats and there is some pure funny business going on behind the scenes of some shows that get unjustly low ratings... some of the low ratings come from almost like ghost accts... and the algorithm ranks votes on a bias so that the phantom vots get double weight. Its crazed fans and haters but its also something internally in the way mdl rates shows as well. Its truly weird..

Everything happening in the rating and reviews is just 1's and 10's fighting over something that has nothing to do with how good the drama ACTUALLY is, because the drama isn't even ACTUALLY halfway over.
To me this is one of the biggest weaknesses of MDL.

what does a rating of 10 mean to you? Your watchlist seems like maybe you are new to asian dramas, it says you've only completed 7 shows. All of which you rate either 0 or 10. I'm so confused about why this gets a 10 from you. Because you say it's excellent, and to each their own... i have no doubt that you think it's excellent. But in the world of asian drama, this is objectively not "excellent" compared to all the stuff there is out there.
There's just no room to rate something as 'better' than this if this is the bar for what a 10 is. If this is a 10/10, then what is The Long Ballad or Rise Of the Phoenixes? 20/10?
